H4M, now, I’m just a newbie, but I always ask if someone is using a piece of equipment, especially if it looks like the person isn’t done yet. If there are plates on the ground, leaning against the power cage (deadlifting cage for byukid…lol) I always ask if someone is using it. People are always leaving bars with plates on them in my gym, usually they belong to whoever’s working the desk, so no one touches them, just leaves them. So, no, I don’t think you’re taking things out of context.
For reference, here’s the video…so as you can see…I left the plates and belt RIGHT there…NO way he could’ve thought they were being used for something else.
It could have been worse. He could have jumped in to do knee raises…

…at the same time, since those handles and the back pad were free

Saw a guy squatting in the smith machine last night. Strike 1. He kept yelling at his “bro” that he HAD to do abzzz. Strike 2. He was wearing eyeliner…no shitting. Strike 3.

My favorite brotrainer strikes again…seriously this guy looks like Ronnie from Jersey Shore, but about half the size and with shorter hair. He’s always having some poor schmuck quarter squat more weight than he can handle while he text messages (other bros i’m sure). This time, had a very tall skinny boy quarter squatting the bar with the safety pad. His knees were like 2 feet in front of his toes and he looked like he was going to fall on every rep. I wish this trainer would just die or something, doubt they’ll ever get rid of him.

On another note, before all this when I was in the rack, another fucking plate fell on me as I was loading the bar. This time it was a 10. Next time I’m sure some asshole is going to switch and put the 25s above eye level then load them to the very tip of the holder. I’ve reported this twice and asked them to remove the higher plate holders. Doubt there’s anything else I can do.

Bring an arc welder and do it yourself.

Send an email to the owner so if it falls on you foot and you get hurt, you have evidence that you complained, that they did nothing, and you got hurt. Might help your case if it comes to that.

wheels in a welder
“nothin’ to see here, folks”
drops mask over eyes and ignites…

Thanks for the suggestions.

Can you please post in every thread so I can see your avi more often

I am 100% sure I am the reason for this sign.

Skinny jeans, texting, flexing and curls only workout, all the same guy. (And no it wasn’t me)

Actually saw someone doing curls in the squat rack last week, it really wasn’t that bad and there are definitely worse things people can do in the gym. I think I would actually prefer a good set of curls over the way some people squat, so in some cases squat rack curls are better than squats in the squat rack.

x-legged-round-back-sumo-dl

From last night:

Dude squatting in the Smith (top third ony) 3x10kg one side, 2x15kg on the other. Next set he added a 15 to each side.

Dude in my gym last night was doing bb curls in the squat rack super setted with DB curls…in the squat rack. If I was trying to squat and saw some douche doing db curls standing in the squat rack, there would have been a life lessons with LL episode right there.

The worst part was the dude had decent arms, but had the whole “no back rounded shoulders” thing going on. Couple that with one of the tight fitting under armour t-shirts, neglected legs and hideous basketball shoes…and you’ve got a super douche.

Had an amazing one today, during one of my occasional sessions at a commercial gym.

Me: You’re going to deadlift 200kgs without a warmup?
Commercial gym douchebag trainer: Relax, I do this for a living
Douchebag trainer can’t lock out 200
Douchebag: My hands were sweaty
Me: You’re lucky your vertebrae didn’t shoot across the room…
Douchebag: I had cancer, if I can recover from that, I can recover from anything

LOL

LOL

^^
Christ almighty and I thought some of the comments in my gym were bad.

Anyways, pretty common but it annoys me to see stick thin dudes doing ‘strict form’ shrugs with the heaviest dumbbells we have(a whopping 65lbs). Thinking they’ll grow impressive traps from doing that = win. A year later, still doing same thing with same weight = epic win.

This guy was doing declines and came up to me to ask for a spot. I said sure, no problem. He says he’s going for 10 and I say alright. He does 3 good reps on his own, cool. But then on the 4th rep, he’s stuck at midpoint so I help him get it up… but no… he says he has more in him… ok… maybe he just screwed up his form. But nope, this time he barely gets it off his chest. I help him get it up… then he does this crap again, I tell him no you don’t have this then he precedes to lower the barbell. This time I let him struggle for a while, you know try to give him the fear of death… but I think he actually liked that unfortunately.

I think I should have just pulled the bar back into the racked position after the 2nd failed rep of his. I’m not really all that into the assisted bench press thing.
Same thing happened to me. THis guy wanted me to spot him with 225. It was my deadlift day i was really pulling with my fatigued back to get the weight off. The next week he asked me for a spot with 185. I usually dont assist until the person hits failure. I gave him a lift off and it fell to his chest and i had to again pull it off while he said one more, one more. So i let him feel the brunt of the weight. pulling a lil then not at all let him struggle pull a lil ect. He tben racked it and said u gotta flo with me. Im like what the heck???!!! THis isnt a team effort, and why were u trying to push 225 last time if u cant even get 185 for one???

BAHAHAHA! I’d say we are due one of those in my gym now. There’s a very thick log in my gym that weighs about 175lbs but for some reason I have extreme difficulty with it. It really is a very awkward piece of equipment.

A few weeks ago when the place was quiet I gave it a go after my session and was pleasantly surprised at a pretty good clean and push with it, I locked it out and was pretty happy. Then yesterday I joined in with some guys who were also seeing what they could do with it. I failed to lock it out the first time so I left it rest on my chest before going for another one. I was just about to lock it out when I lost control of it. I had moved too far forward under the weight and as a result it was now coming back down BEHIND my head. It was all I could to slow it as much as I could but I had to duck out from under it before it crushed my head and neck.

It made a fucking massive crash as it came down on the thinly carpeted solid concrete floor(it’s a hollow log). Everybody in the gym looked but I escaped injury free so I just laughed it off with the other guys. It was then that one of the trainers comes from reception to ask what happened. ‘‘Sorry, I missed a rep and dropped the log’’ I said. Her response…? ‘‘You gave me a fright, and you’ll damage my floor!’’

I couldn’t believe what I just heard. When a heavy weight is above my head and coming down the wrong direction, my very last concern is the solid concrete floor under me. Honestly, we’re on the ground floor and it’s probably one of the best training surfaces I’ve used for lifting. She then went on moaning about her floor and disappeared and came back with a yoga mat and told me to put that under the log in future.(I normally do, it was this time that I didn’t 'cos I was literally about to pack up when I just decided to see what I could do). What really annoyed me about this is that I’ve been training here for three years and I very very rarely drop a weight to the floor. And I’m not known to be a messer, I usually go in, train, and get out.

And to top ot off, on my way out the door, I saw a 23 year old guy walking on a treadmill holding a 7lb kettlebell above his head with both hands. I tried to take a video but my phone it being a dick lately.

17 y.o. 130 lbs in full TAPOUT gear doing boxing routine with his girlfriend on the walking track (5’ wide color-coded aisle that circles the cardio/cable room that is to be kept clear at all times). I spotted them when I turned the corner doing farmer carries. I just said, “MOVE.” They moved. Next lap around, they’re back at it. I said, “MOVE.” They moved. Next lap, they’re back again. I got close and put the weights down somewhat close to them and not very lightly. I say to the kid, “take that stupid shit somewhere else and don’t make me ask you again to move.”

What makes you think that blocking a path that is specifically to be kept clear for people to walk/run/carry stuff to do boxing drills with your girlfriend a smart thing to do?
