A “certified” personal trainer told me using a BB is dangerous and only DB’s should be used… This sounds like a good thread
We just got rid of a “trainer.” I was with my client, and he was just starting with one of his. Instead of racking the olympic bar, he set it on the top rung of our rack. Then he proceeded to get his client ready to do some incline chest presses on the smith. … which is obviously inside the rack. I was on the other side of the Studio, so I didn’t really see the setup. So once the client got up to a 35 on each side, at the top of his rep, he hit the corner of the olympic bar that was sitting on the top of the rack, which came swinging down and smashed the client on his left hip. This made him drop the weight that he had in his hands, on his neck.
I heard the smash from the other side of the room and ran over to help. The “trainer” just stood there and didn’t even move the smith machine’d weight off of his throat, so I grabbed it and yelled at the fucker to pick up the bar that was propped up against the client’s now bleeding hip.
The owner and I apologized profusely, gave him a couple of free sessions with me, and now things are good.
But of course the client in the story was a personal injury lawyer… I think we sweet talked him out of a lawsuit, but that’s a scary fucking situation.
What other professions do you know of that they can get away with shit like this? Are there morons like this everywhere?

That’s messed up. At least you were a decent human being let alone a good trainer. I can’t beleieve that guy would just stand there while the guy has a bar at his throat.
Personal Trainers suck at my gym. Theyre always trying to either sell me something or suggest stupid things like “Dont go so low” on squats or “Put your back into it” on deadlifts. Thank God for the Ipod.
well i saw a young guy wearing a dip belt as a weight belt. he had the chain wrapped up multiple times. he didnt get a clue by the fact that it had no buckle. he was using it to do below 225 deadlifts, very rounded back. then he kept wearing it while doing dumbell rows. which i think is rude, does he think the gym stocks one belt for everybody? even the noisy guy that squats 65 pounds brings his own belt. he looked a tinge rednecky, so that could explain it.
i saw an old lady tell her husband to keep his elbows locked on the dip machine.
there is an old black guy that does hanging knee raises everytime i see him. he barely raises his legs, he just wriggles like he is trying to free himself. he’s been doing that for months.
Watched a guy t bar rowing 60kgs today…he used around 3 inch ROM
He also did this on:
Leg press
Unsupported t bar row (looked like he was humping the weight lol)
Single arm machine rows
Bench press
He loaded the leg press up with 7 plates a side aswell and didnt bother to move the weights - dickhead.
Told him that most people pull close to their chest on rows and he just looked at me.
Asked him to spot me (was going for 12 and asked him to help me on the 13th) and instead he says on rep 9 ‘yo you got this’ and walks off. grrrrrrrrrrrrr
He also spent the entire time slamming the weights and looking round like YEAH IM THE MAN!
Have seen him before actually and i heard him say he goes gym 1 time a week. Time before he did:
BB shoulder press
Up right row
Lat raise
BTN press
Shrugs

You pull to different areas to work different areas of the back. just sayin.
Ok so I saw something awesome at the gym last night.
Really small man comes over next to me. He is probably 5’1" maybe? Not a midget but he was very short. He starts doing tricep push downs with the rope. It between sets he starts doing high kicks and is trying to kick the rope lol. He was so short that he couldn’t quite kick the rope (not that tall) so he decides to transition to attempting roundhouses… Nailed it on the second roundhouse. It was amazing. No word of a lie. He’s my new favorite guy at my gym

Best tri-set ever witnessed by myself today:
A1) 15 reps of 285 on leg press
A2) 26(!) reps of tricep pushdowns
A3) 3 reps of prisoner squat side lunges
Repeat 5 times. Follow by a cooldown going 2 mph on a 7% incline on the treadmill for 12 minutes. I was actually too confused to realize that I hadn’t started my lifting and was still doing foam roller work after a half hour.
So you like my style?
I’m just curious as to what other trisets you enjoy.

Almost got kicked out of my university gym today; I was benching and one of the worker bees comes over to me, conversation went something like this.
WB “Can you not slam the weights down so loud”
Me “I’m afraid I don’t understand, I haven’t been slamming the weights down’
WB “You are being too loud when you put down the weights and my boss sent me over here”
Me " Metal rack, metal bar and XX weight, it is not going to be quiet”
WB “Well maybe you are just using too much weight”
Me “No such thing, I am being controlled and if your boss has an issue, he can come talk to me himself”
WB “Fine but if he complains again I warned you” Walks off, and disappears
Funny thing is, I have had a few talks with the gym director before, questions about gym policy mainly; and he has seen me lift, never before has he said anything to me and I did not see him in the gym today at all. I think I was just pissing the minion off and called her bluff.
Good chance I just pissed her off; but I am going to pretend she just wanted to come talk to me because I made her panties wet- too bad she had no ass, no tits and only a so-so face.

Good point but this was a chest supported row so pretty strict movement in that sense…
I liked how he laughed at me for using 45kg shrugs (especially when i put 2.5kg plates on either side), then stfu wen i ramped to 100kgs lol. I just looked at him like ‘yeah bitch you don;t know shit so stop acting like a bad man’.
We should make this more like Planet Fitness in that we should be more judgement free.
And I don’t mean that we shouldn’t complain about fucking idiots in the gym…what I mean is we shouldn’t have someone come in every 5th post and make some sort of weird “Maybe maybe maybe” bloody post that is some sort of lame attempt at an excuse for the dumb shit a previous poster said he saw.
Example…TRUST ME when I say there’s an idiot at the gym doing a literally 2 inch ROM on lat pulldowns and that he is NOT in any way doing some form of partial and I know that he’s just a douche that comes in with his lack-of-muscle shirt and gloves and wraps and straps and does nothing and we all have a good laugh.
