Get to where you’re doing more with full ROM than they are with partial, preferably for more reps as well.
Flex your legs in front of them.
Naturally, both of these require a better level of development/strength than them…but isn’t that the point?
My training partner and I were approached by this guy last past weekend while we were using the cables as a bicep finisher.
He opens with “hey those guys over there said you were a professional builder” and I should ask you questions instead. The guy I train with has been competing/judging for years and knows everyone in the gym, and is very patient with people like this.
After he got finished saying way more than I would have, I was going to suggest getting a book to teach him the basics. I mean this guy was clueless. He responds with “I hate reading, so I just ask people questions every time I’m in here.”
It’s amazing how many people want something, but are too lazy to do what it takes to get it.

Just say, “Why are you only doing partial reps? Are you working on your lockout strength?”
I was in the squat rack doing squats with admittedly only 95 pounds. A really tall, thin guy went into the rack next to me (my lovely gym only has 2). He loaded up one plate and started squatting doing sets of 5 but only about 1/8 of the way down. Seriously. Then he added a second plate and did more 1/8 squats. I was doing ATG (I’ve only been up to 115 on these but I’m currently working on focusing on them to make better progression). When he saw that I was doing them ATG he stopped doing them at the same time as me. When I’d complete a set and take a brief rest he’d step back in and do his. I was amused.

A male’s ego is a fragile thing lol
^^ Definetely, I sometimes work out with a small guy and most often when I choose my weights for an exercise, he storms off.
It makes me feel bad ![]()
A “certified” personal trainer told me BB rows were a good isolation exercise for my triceps and that I should do it on my chest days.

Holy fuck, that’s about as bad as how they advertise those doorframe pullup bar things as working shoulders and chest and stuff hahaha. Craziness.

brah
Chaos would be a vacation compared to what a usual day at my gym looks like. Just to change plates I have to go on a 30 min hunt through all the weight trees all the while fending off people who wanna steal my bar.

This same trainer wouldn’t understand what “strength training” and “low volume work” were. When I explained it to him he proceeded to question why would anyone want to train for strength, and he quoted that it was not “functional” and that “everyone died who tried it got hurt”.
That’s crazy.

My thoughts exactly. Maybe I’m weird, but I can deadlift more than I can upright row so picking the weight up off the floor isn’t really an issue.
OK thats fair…I will do’em from the floor, FTR im not like the guy you mentioned.
Hold up whats weird about deadlifting more then Upright rowing, I have never seen anyone Upright Row 400 - 500lbs

It was a bit of a joke on my part (not at you but at people - squat rack curlers or rowers - in general). While typing it, I was thinking about a guy who was curling 135 in the only squat rack at my old gym (garage gym for me now :)) and he was going on about how it was a lot of weight so why should he move.
My thought was: Its a lot of weight to curl, I certainly can’t do it. But its also the same weight as my wife’s first warm up set when deadlifting. The point being, he could have been nice and moved back 10 feet and picked the weight up off the floor without much trouble, but instead was a dick and made us wait 15 minutes.
I guess my general thought is if you don’t NEED a piece of equimpment then be prepared to move for people that actually do need it. For instance, if there is a flat bench and an adjustable bench available and I’m doing flat DB bench, I’ll take the flat one leaving the one with more options free. If there is only an adjustable one available I’ll take that, but if a flat one becomes free later and someone asks about the adjustable, I’ll offer to move to the flat bench.

Agreed! And just so you know that I’m fair about it, same night there was a guy doing box jumps on the highest box the gym has. I was giving him my full attention as I walked through. When I walked back through he had put a platform under it so that it was easily another 6 or 8 inches taller. I seriously don’t know how he was able to jump that high. So I stopped and said, well now you’re just showing off! He had a huge smile on his face.

Great idea, but it’s going to be tough to say it with a straight face.

I say stuff like that all the time, especially when people try to belittle me by using more weight with partial reps and they always stumble for words and usually come up with squatting deep is bad for your knees or full rom bench is bad for their shoulders or something.

that sounds like me lol, gotta show off the hops! plus it’s a great leg day finisher ![]()
I was doing lateral raises, and at the bottom of the movement caught my dick between the dumbells, cut and bruised.

Lol, lesson learned: Don’t go ‘commando’ on shoulder day. Tighty whities FTW.

Even better, drop your shorts before flexing to increase the shock factor then yell for the whole gym to hear " Ya gotta squat deep, Chicken Legs!"
That would be really fun.

You must be Canadian because you sound so polite!
But really, you have very good gym etiquette. I’ve seen many times here where guys put their cell phone on top of their neatly folded towel on the bench next to them while they use another bench.
