Our school gym did possible the most amazing thing ever and replaced machines such as the calf raise and leg curl with more power racks. No more lineups for silly machines! (We don’t even have a smith machine anymore)
Are you at Westdale because they just did the same thing in the spring? It’s a pretty nice set up.
You were at the UTM meet in Toronto right? That’s probably why you look familiar.

Ah… how is that? It was one of my options but I’m going to western instead, what you taking?
that would be me

I get to the gym and head to the Concept 2 ergs to warm up (usually shoot for a 1:45 - 1:50 /500m pace for 2000m at 22-23 SPM).

Some new kid is wailing away on the other erg doing what turns out to be (yes, I’m that asshole who scrolls through memory to see what other people are doing) 10 minutes at 2:40/500m and 34 stroke rating). Crap form. Not quite this bad, but bad: Rowing Machine Fail - YouTube

Which wasn’t the SRC fail. People don’t automatically know good form on a rowing machine (if you use the thing and have any questions, head to Concept2’s website and watch their technique videos). It was that he was working out with a trainer who comes over and gives him an ā€œatta boyā€ for his work, then proceeds on to do a set of worthless other exercises with the kid. Absolutely no guidance on form.

I’d have started the kid out learning how to do the movement first, then trying to build up intensity.

This is the shit that gives trainers a bad name. Letting your clients be idiots and doing absolutely nothing to fix it.

I like my gym, it’s hard-core. Some of the trainers know their shit, but most still strike me as a waste of oxygen.

The excuse is - ā€œits not like we want every dude we seeā€. seriously, c’mon.

You’re a man that likes other men (np with your lifestyle choice - its your choice) but don’t lie.
I know that as a man that likes women, I LIKE EVERY WOMAN I SEE AND WOULD SIIHP. I can honestly say that I can find some redeeming quality about almost any woman I see so don’t give me this BS about ā€œwe don’t want youā€.
I think they are trying to be polite. It is kind of unpleasant to think that someone is visualizing pillaging my anus.
I bet somewhere in the world they have a gym that is just for gays. Fabulous gym equipment and non stop Cher blasting out of the stereo.
sounds like every gym in Thailand :stuck_out_tongue: Asked around, and according to locals, training is viewed as a gay thing over there, its very uncommon for the hetrosexual man to work out, other than Muay Thai.

One gym i was at, had a couple dudes all dolled up with makeup and paited nails, training hard as fuck, and doing little dances between sets!

No. I got asked to ref but couldn’t make it down. I run the OPA (Ontario Powerlifting Association) website and get a pictures from all the meets to post. There are one or two squat pictures of him. We didn’t get many from that meet so they stand out a bit more. Were you lifting? If so, there may be pictures of you as well.

Yeah, there was one squat photo. My friends took a bunch though so it’s all good.

I few days ago, I noticed a guy suddenly gets on a flat bench and grabs the 90s for flat db press, I’d describe him as a tennis player body. he does 4 1/2 and reaches failure. his second set he gets 2
he moves to incline db press, grabs 80s or so, I was farther away, he got ZERO, ran and grabbed the 70s or so and got 3 reps
man just do a routine, reps sets, I wonder if he just says i’ll go to the gym today and do something.

mirror: look into it.

I see this all the time at my gym…guys that seem to only do biceps (maybe some pec deck or whatever) but aren’t even very good at it at all.

I mean if you only do biceps for months on end, wold you please do the gods a courtesy and get beyond 20lb Db curls???

So, I’ve been dealing with a broken fibula for the past 5-6 months. I finally get clear to start squatting again so I’m pretty psyched. I head to the gym that I know has two squat racks so I’m pretty confident that there won’t be any issues. it’s also like 11:00am on a Sunday, so it should be pretty empty. Well it was empty except for the two squat racks ( of course). One kid was in there knocking out some heavy rack pulls so I didn’t get bothered by that. But on the other rack was some 15 year old kid not only doing curls in the squat rack but doing DUMB BELL curls in the Squat rack!!! Granted he was super setting with behind the back barbell shrugs ( with an empty bar for about 50 reps per set). I sat on the bench next to him and just watched. He did about 10 sets and would slowly stroll off to get water between each set. He actually came back at one point with a paper towel that he took about 5 minutes to get folded into a perfect square before he stood in the mirror and DABBED the tiny sweat beads off his forehead. I don’t want to be one of those assholes that thinks his training is any more important than someone else’s, nor do I want to discourage a young kid from continuing to hit the gym…but CMON!!! THis was killing me. Here I am sitting on a benckh about 10 feet away from this kid with all kinds of PRE WO crap running through my veins and my heads about to explode. Then of course once he finally finished he left his set of 20’s sitting in the middle of the rack as he walked off to get started on his wrist curls.
