Squat Rack Curls 2011

It’s Summer cause the half-rep bench and abs crew have come in. One duo spent an hour hogging the bench press machine. Also a girl has come into the weight room… good on her for coming in but all she does is do bodyweight step ups and squats… she can do that in the stretching area all she’s doing is taking an in demand bench. Gah.

Guy alternating 1/8 squats with 40kg and high kicks in the power rack.

Flat Bench, guy had 135 lbs on it, and promptly lifted his ass very HIGH, for the entire set, each set.
then moved to incline bench, and lifted his ass so much he removed the incline, his hips were almost as high as his chest
WTF dude, i saw him talking to a big guy must minutes earlier, after seeing his antics I realized he was BOTHERING the big guy, not talking to him.

I saw this shit for the first time two nights ago. Two kids, maybe 17, one “instructing” the other with 135 on incline bench. Every rep started normally, but once the bar came to the chest there was a massive heave of the hips and, I shit you not, he was making this a decline press. Straining hard, neck completely cranked against pad, twiggy legs trembling all over the place. Other kid tries it: “I don’t know, man… feels weird.”

I HAD to say something. Wasn’t a dick, just explained the complex physics behind gravity and how the position of your body and the bar changes what you’re doing. The “Instructor” wasn’t too keen on my “advice”. However, once he went to either the bathroom or the curl rack, the other kid tried it “my” way. Bar slammed into his chest and I had to help him. Gave him a thumbs up. “At least you did it right. Lower the weight.” Egos are funny. Nothing like getting trapped under a bar to put it in check.

I worked out and squatted in jeans the other day. It was pretty funny. I wonder what ppl around me were thinking.

I see that too, now that movement is 4th most popular in my gym, (golds manchester nh)
figure bicep curls in mirror number 1, shrugs in mirror 2nd most popular, ab machine 3rd.

i hate my gym
No kidding, why do I see so many douchebags doing shrugs? It’s become almost asp popular as curls.
Ahh, so shrugs are now stupid, worthless, and only for retards.

So now I have: Curls, pushups, situps, and shrugs.

Alright! Thanks for keeping me up to date guys!
My apologies, I didn’t make myself clear. What I’m saying is that shrugs are over done.

Thank you for this post! You obviously understand EXACTLY what the poster was getting at. Good on you for pointing it out with such intellect and wit. I can only hope these type of posts continue!

i was getting the stink eye today from a squadron of brosephs who were busy sweating out some 135lb quarter squats. one of their friends showed up while i was between sets of deadlifts and was making a big show of stretching and getting in my space. he was practically on one side of my barbell while he was stretching and talking about how awesome white hats are or something.

so he throws some extra plates onto their bar (now he’s at 225), unracks it, 1/8th squats it once and then slams it back on to the pins. he then made some excuse about how he needed to drink some more water before he lifted. he did not come back.

I just spit up my breakfast because of this

Same here. But fuck those jeans, if they’re not strong enough they deserve to die!

Monday being International Bench Press Day, there’s usually at least a short wait for a bench. So I’m sitting for about 5 minutes waiting for this father-son duo to finish up. Three 20’somethings try and snatch the bench right out from under me while the duo was unloading the bench.

20 Somethings: You all done here?
Me: Woh, guys I was waiting on that. You’re welcome to work in if you want.
Father: If you guys are gonna fight over this, my money’s on him. points to me
Me: light chuckle You guys wanna work in?
20 Somethings: looking at each other with slight embarassment Nah, we’re gonna go over here.

They later took the bench next to me and one of the larger ones (maybe 160-170 lbs) keeps glaring over at me. Don’t know why. I was courteous enough to offer to share. It was the father that made the comment.

WRIST CURLERS DAY at Golds manchester nh
first one, IN THE SQUAT RACK, promptly left when a guy put his gatorade next to the rack
he squatted.

another skinny dude, standing in front of mirror really isolated his arm by placing his arm behind his back, and doing the wrist curl with his other arm, a 15 lb dumbbell

way to go guys!

+1 on shrugs becoming the new curls.
saw some dude load up 405 on the bar and sorta do a 1-inch shrug with it off the pins for 3 reps or so.
straps of course. then he’d walk around sporting the “fuck yeah” look.

I’ve never really kept up with this thread. Is it pretty much just about making fun of people using straps and doing isolation exercises? It seems like every other post is along the lines of “I saw some bro doing wrist curls. I got SO MAD all I could do was bust out some ATG squats, glaring at him the whole time. I’m so fucking alpha sometimes.”

I once saw a guy doing curls in the squat rack, so I loaded up the one next to him and starting squatting my ass off. I think I pissed the guy off by staring him down because he did the same thing. After about six sets, the acid finally starting wearing off and I realized that I was next to a mirror.

Well I don’t have a pic and I sign in blood if I ever see this again I’m just taking the frakking picture.

Older aparently gay gentleman in short shorts and a CUT OFF TIGHT BEFUCKINGDAZZLED HALF SHIRT.

He was small but very very ripped and not skinny he was somewhat built and extremely tan and he was doing some gnarly cirque de soliel shit all up and around the giant pull up structure. Twas truly dazzling athletics but the outfit MY GOD. Was handsdown the singular most unique thing I have ever witnessed in my weightroom. It was not the suck it was the amazing.

Wasn’t trying to put you on blast like that Bro!

I felt like a supreme ass today- for my 6 Weeks to Superhero program, I totally use a whole rack for about 50 minutes. Between the weight and exercise switching, I’m sure I look retarded, and since there are only two racks I can’t imagine anyone is too happy, but I don’t care.

Eh, it’s not as good as it used to be but not all bad. I posted about a kid pestering a guy using the Olympic Platform for clean and jerk just so he can jump rope on it.

Two of the possibly skinniest kids ever,
a full hour of forearm curls
they had plates dumbbells and barbells scattered all over the place as they moved from one to the other just doing various forearm curls.
What pissed me off is that they would drop the weights LOUDLY

when you weigh 110 lbs (this is giving them a lot the of benefit of the doubt) and you are using 10 pound plates, you have no need to drop them
