Today I saw a guy “training” a girl in the weight room. He had her do leg press with a 100 only on one side. My lifting partner and I watched as he congratulated her on doing the lift correctly. Maybe she has some muscular imbalance, but I doubt it. Didn’t notice any atrophy or anything in her legs.

Maybe he didn’t think about using 2 45s and 2 5s? I mean…the math is pretty hard.
Which reminds me of a lady I saw who put a 5 lb plate on each side of the leg press and did 10 reps. I thought to myself “why bother?”

Here’s why you shouldn’t curl in the squat rack. There’s 50 places (preacher, dumb bells, barbells etc.) where you can do curls. There’s usually only 1 or 2 squat racks within any given facility. You’re taking up space. It’s like taking up 2 parking spots or wearing an over sized hat in a movie theater.
It is like when people use the only Oly Platform when they aren’t dropping weights.
I don’t actually see why it matters if people do either of these so long as when you tell them politely that you need the equipment between their sets (for its intended purpose) they move along and / or work in in a way that isn’t disruptive.
There are a bunch of reasons people have given me for preferring to curl in the racks / lift on the platform (even though they move along happily enough when someone wants to use it). Most often it is about having a bit of space with a mirror and not being crowded by others. That makes sense to me, anyway. Why not wear a big hat in the movie theatre so long as you take it off if you are disrupting others?
Go back to your training log and let the adults have their conversation. Sigh.
Was there really any need for that? Firstly, I’m most probably older than you. Secondly, do you really need to belittle others to make yourself feel big - because that is what those kinds of comments make you look like.
Actually yes, there was a need for that since you decided to enter the SRC thread and defiantly post that you do in fact curl in the squat rack and was rather insulting with this statement:
i think sometimes people really would do better to worry more about their own training and progress rather than judging other peoples.
I’m actually glad to learn that I’m not the only one who is unnecessarily crowded in the gym. I thought it might be because I was female or because I do a lot of technique work (e.g., snatching the bar). Interesting to hear that the gender and weight doesn’t seem to matter and people seem just as keen to be hit with enough weight to knock them out as they are to be hit with the bar. I won’t take the crowding personally anymore.

And it is back to training logs I go…
At least people are focused on improving themselves there (childish, I know)

There are 2 squat racks in my gym right next to each other. While I’m using one of them, these two kids (probably in high school) load up 225 on the rack next to me.
The first one steps up with a belt on, unracks the weight, then starts his downward motion, only two stop 1/10 of the way down and says “nope…”. He comes back up and racks the weight.
Then pecker head # 2 unracks the weight, and proceeds to do 6 or so 1/8 squats with his feet all crooked.
Then I hear “let’s get out of here”, and they walk away, leaving the weight on the bar.
I started unloading the bar as soon as I heard the “let’s get…”, so hopefully they realized what was going on. Kids these days…
Had a good one tonight; Guy I have never seen before in the gym is doing incline DB bench. Before every set he spasms so had that he actually stands up, then brings both legs off the ground before shaking his arms back and forth. At first I thought he was just going heavy (for him) and needed the mental boost, he then proceeded to do this on every set for the next half an hour, with full 1/8th ROM sets and throwing the weights after each set.
This guy asked for a form check in the beginner’s forum, then posted a vid of passing out deadlifting:
Its in good fun, and nobody got hurt.

I like the 1/8 squat going on right next to the camera…

The only thing better than grandma beav is peanut butter and pretzel sandwiches
The uni gym I go to has a rule that you must have collars on the bar when benching - for “safety.” Personally, I believe you should have the option to dump some plates on either side if you ever get pinned. But I get it – those are the rules. The flat benches are all located right in front of the attendant’s station so if you don’t use collars, they notice.
Yet I frequently witness idiots benching with their feet up on the bench. Or, even worse, with their feet up in the air! Sometimes even with appreciable weight, too. Apparently there are no safety issues with that LOL
I did an explosive push jerk the other day and ended up smashing the barbell into my jaw with full force, this has happened on more than one occasion.
Practically every time I get up from or get under the bar for decline benching I bang my head on the barbell.

I have scars under my chin from doing this on several occasions. Worst part is that it takes forever to stop bleeding.

And in running shoes, which seems to be giving him all sorts of excellent rebound at the top.

If they use the spring collars, you could just pry a couple open far enough that it loses some tension, and won’t grip the bar. That way, you are still using them, but they’ll slide right off if they need to. win/win!

could have been doing a zemmin (sp) pull down. i do these from time to time and get strange looks. highly effective if you do them right.

2 things i love about that 1) how he keeps checking out the camera. 2) how no one even flinches to check on him when he goes down.
today i was at the gym and it was right when all the high schoolers get out of school so they were all there sleeves rolled up flexing in mirrors. well two of them are being dicks in the 1 squat rack we have, i wasnt squatting so i didnt care too much. well i had to put something back in the corner said excuse me and i went to talk to the kid he didnt realize he, rolled his sleeves up and flexed in the mirror, they both laugh as the noticed i noticed and was laughing, well i went to put the piece i was using back and the fucking kid stares at me and flexes again. there was a mirror you jamoke. i really wanted to stand up with an elbow to his jaw but i held back.

Is he big? If he isn’t, then he wasn’t doing anything worthwhile to him.

If I do upright rows with the cable machine I always hit myself in the chin on the first rep.
