A guy actually got mad at me for pulling a bar off his chest after he got completely stoned in the bottom on the first rep at 135. He said something like “make me work for it bro!” I told him I wasn’t going to lift it for him and if he couldn’t get it then lower the weight. He came and got me like 5 minutes later asking for a spot again on the same weight. This time I let it sit on his chest for about 10 seconds as he pushed relentlessly without a budge. I upright rowed it off his chest but as I tried to rack it he literally pulled it back down to his chest and made me do another upright row to get it off. When he got up he had some stinkface look like he was about to think about possibly considering maybe cussing me out or something, but he walked away and left.

what i do with when people ask me to spot them and they got to their last rep, i lift just enough to make sure the bar stays still or moves up VERY slowly so that they won’t go for another one[/quote]

EXACTLY. Make those fuckers so tired that they CAN’T do another one.

I saw a guy doing 1/4 ROM bent rows, on a smith machine

Fool me once…

Ok so i was at the gym today and long story short a 9 year old, and when i say 9 yr old i dont mean a 140lb 20 yr old who looks like a 9 yr old i literally mean a 9 year old tried to take a bench off me while i was doing dumbell rows.

Granted i took the bench off him in the first place for playing around with his 2 other 9 yr old friends.

when he tried i gave him a look that said, ‘’ i will put you on a sammich and eat you’'.

he walked off and brought his dad back with him, who looked at me rowing 140lbs, dripping with sweat and a face and started to shout at his kid and dragged him off. The little shit shouldn’t be in the gym in the first place for safety reasons.

i do live in Egypt tho.

After this i walk over the squat rack and it’s been used as a jacket and bag stand. WTF!!!

Marzouk I live in Egypt too, and I have seen the usual Squat rack being used as a coat hangger. On the other hand I was squatting last week and a couple of 18-19 year olds came up and asked very politely if after I was done working out I could wait and watch them squat and give’em some pointers. To start with the kids backs were as straight as anarrow, butts out, legs perfectly positioned. I gave them a thumbs up and they said they read about squatting on this bloody forum. Good onyou t-nationers. Next day, as I expected they were curling in the Squat Rack…

I always thought that people’s arm development was way ahead of the restof their bodies here, but coming to think about it I rearly see guys doingmore than cable pushdowns here. My favourite is the looks I get when I do cleans and snatches at Gold’s, people are staring thinking what the fuck is he doing. But I like having the Big Amateur WOrld Champions like Mabrouk, Ammawy, Taha and Mansour arround who come and visit regularily. Also the stigma of using creatine (some people whisper cuz they think its an anabolic steroid)

i like it when this shaggy dude comes in and uses one of the 2 lifting platforms to squat when there are 6 empty squat racks right around him…and im trying to get my O-lifting in

its also fun when people don’t know how to deadlift and tear off all the skin on their shin and bloody the bar up for the next person.

University gyms are the best!!!

Umm… sometimes when you’re deadlifting heavy, you’ll tear skin off. I wear tall socks on those days though.

I must not know how to deadlift, cause I always have scabs on my shins.

You have to learn somehow. If you don’t at least tear some skin in the learning process, odds are you aren’t doing it properly.

citydawg, if the bar isn’t dragging up your shins, you’re doing it wrong.

Speaking of deadlifts, the other week after a max lift (4 plates woo) I lower the bar to my knees then dropped it. Some guy literally crossed the gym (and my gym is pretty big) and said “can you drop it a bit quiter eh?” with a look on his face like he couldn’t believe the noise. I said “drop it quieter?” making it plain how ridiculous I thought that sounded and he said “yeah, if you can managed it”.

I bert-stared him and he walked off.

This happened a couple of years ago but one time I was on the movable bench doing DB bench and was between sets sitting up when I felt the bench shake a little…it was another guy taking a break and sitting down on the other end of the bench!
So I asked in Mandarin what he was doing and he said sorry and walked away. Fucking idiot.

what i meant by the comment is people do two seperate things

  1. they don’t know how to deadlift. they round their back etc etc
  2. when they bloody the bar they leave the blood there (i hope no one does that)

and i know you want the bar close to your body. if there’s anyone who preaches form on deadlifting its me

This is nothing totally out of the normal but it pisses me the hell off. I cant stand the guys who will sit in the squat rack on the bench and text on their phones for 10min without even lifting a weight. Especially when the gym you lift at only has two squat racks and no bench for bench pressing.

I would hope that in that situation you’d feel justified telling the guy to move or be moved. At least when people are curling in the squat rack, they’re at least exercising.

Not to mention that it shouldn’t be necessary to tell anyone to move that shit.
The PTs at my gym put their clip boards and other things on the benches all the time. I put it on the floor for them.
There are guys at my gym that use one bench, and put the towel and on top of that, their cell phone, on the bench next to them.
