Squat Form Check

Hi guys. I recently found this website and it has offered a ton of information and has helped me with my lifts. I wrestled 6 years of my life and am currently in college studying in doctorate program for Physical Therapy. Enough of the background info, to the good stuff, some stats:
5’6
165lbs
Bench PR: 295
DL: 468
Squat: ???

The main reason for the ??? is because I am not going low enough, and having a lot of trouble getting the form right no max attempts. Any help would be appreciated.

Break at your hips first, sit back more and push your knees out harder. Also, don’t drive back up until you’ve hit depth.

Half the weight, focus on getting the depth that you want, and explode powerfully up.

The reason your form isn’t right and you are high is because that is too much weight for you. Also, what the hell are you wearing as a ‘belt’??? Ditch that thing or get a decent belt.

Thank you for the replies. I tried the “breaking at the hips” yesterday with a box at parellel and managed to work up to one rep at 370. Hopefully I can add a follow up video as soon as possible. The belt I’m using is the cheap Nike lifting belt you can find at any local sports store. As I am a broke college student, I am trying to save up for a proper belt.

Yeah, I do squat high bar. I’ve had many shoulder and back problems from my years of wrestling. I lost a lot of flexibility. I am trying to slowly get back to squatting low bar. It might take a few months, but it’ll be worth the effort.

Your not even close to depth. The reason you can’t get deep enough is because you’re using too much weight.

Solution: Use less weight. Stop being a bitch and get to depth. Get stronger. Use more weight.

Google the “So You Think You Can Squat” EFS video series and try to get your form dialed in.

no no no no no… I didn’t say you are squatting high bar, I am saying you are squatting high! I would fathom a guess that if you put 135lb on the bar, you could squat it well to depth no problem. So on that note, train with less weight and get deeper. Again, don’t bother wearing that ‘lifting belt’ and just do beltless work until you can afford a better belt (I know that are stupid expensive) and you can squat with proper form.
