Squat Depth

Havent posted in a while but would like to see if i can get any help tips suggestions etc. This was either 315 or 345 before adding knee wraps and doubling 395. Just lookin for tips and if this one would have hit depth

depth

All these stupid depth vids. How hard can it be to judge depth by yourself? The concept of depth is very simple. All you have to do is to be honest with yourself.

Having said that, I would say you are a bit above parallel (definitely not IPF depth). However, it’s hard to see since your vid is shit.

^ Do not listen to that dbag, I question if he even competes/ trains in PL; being that even people ranked in the top 5 of their weight class still have others give guidance on depth since it can be hard to call yourself.

That being said no this would not pass in any federation, and is also a horrible angle. The rules state the crease of the hip needs to pass under the knee.

To be 100% honest, you will have a hard time ever hitting depth in a federation like the IPF with your current form. Your real problem is that you let your knees move forward Way to far. You need to initiate the lift with hips back first and then sit down between your knees as you push outward with them. You are moving forward and leaning over.

Go to Elite Fitness and watch some of their instructional videos. Do Goblet squats to get the feel of sitting back and down with out letting your knees and chest move forward… You will need to lighten the load and never accept poor form and then move back up SLOWLY…You will probably need to bring up your posterior chain as well… Change is always hard, but you will not believe the huge jump you will make once it “clicks” and you can feel the tension in your hamstrings, glutes and hips.

would there be a huge difference in squat stance from IPF to say SPF? I lift at a SPF powerlifting gym 4 months of the year and was hammered this technique.Unless i just had an off day not sure i will keep the advice in mind tho, ill post another video even if the mighty infinate shore gets bothered.

No lift.

Well, I wouldn’t be so sure about that. He wants to compete in the fantastic SPF.

You need to find better mentors… you are not even olympic squatting properly. How you squat depends on equipment and levers etc…but you form is not optimal by any standard. It sure looks like the SPF has a interesting take on “parallel”. I’m not gaining one thing by trying to help out here… Do yourself a favor and RESEARCH all of the respected squatters/coaches from Rippetoe, Wendler, Tate, Frey (technically pure), Bell, Hooper, etc… Then be honest with yourself - only then will you reach your potential. You have to be willing to be wrong to be right.

.< I overlooked the SPF portion of his post.

Sadly you were correct then. SPF is ridiculous.

The truth hurts, eh? Don’t be such a pussy. Just work a bit on hitting proper depth and you are fine.

This x2, I squatted for years thinking I was hitting great depth. PR was 365. About 6 months ago I videotaped myself and it was awful, just awful. I took a step back, switch back to high bar (optimal for me), and started from scratch. I videotaped pretty much ever lift after warming up and watched it. If I didn’t hit depth I’d back off. The #'s started out pretty sad, like 242 X 1 sad. Last Friday I hit 308 for a solid rep and without question I feel each rep in the ham/glutes, quads much better than before.

If for some reason you want to see the 308 squat, it’s on the last page of my indigo log, fyi.

Best advise, swallow your pride now and fix your squat. In a few months/year you’ll be crushing weight the right way.
