Gonna log this because I think it will be funnier than the Comp so with that lets begin…

At 3:45pm I comitted to 92kg or less (for 185kg 2x Bench) and cut water. My food had been gone for an hour.

I booked this super shitty hotel because it was right next to the gym where the comp is. But it isnt. The gym is across town aannnnd not open until 7pm tonight (its a box)

We did get to ask a bunch of questions and check our scale vs their scale. Awesomely my scale is 500-700g heavier. Also I weighed 94.9kg in clothes at 5pm on their scale. 92kg will be a breeze.

I should have plenty of time to Open and take another warmup so all my opens just got way lighter. Also I think we will be staying another night which is super awesome. None of us want to compete then spend 4 hours in a car. Plus, new town lets see how it looks painted red.

I made sure to film our check in.

The Happiness Hotel is the first thing I thought about when I saw our room. But the AC works and it is 400 pesos a night so HELL YEA!!! Going to watch that movie when I get home.

Drank 600mL of water, was starting to get a headache.

8pm undies weight my scale 94.5kg which on their scale is under 94kg which means I am ahead of schedule. This will be an easy 92.5kg weigh in I think.

We investigated Chetumal, it was a ghost town until around 630pm and stores starting opening. We found a bunch of fun stuff for tomorrow.

We went to the actual gym the Comp is at. We are doing warmups with Pounds and our Attempts in Kilos so that adds another level of fun. Also it is an outdoor box and the bar we are using has no center knurling and the knurling is not that aggressive. We will be bathing in chalk in between sets.

I will get to Ed Coan this a bit though because our warmup plates are bumpers and at least my dead warmups will be over 4 plates.

*Ed Coan sometimes took his last warmup sets on the platform because they didnt have enough plates.

Time to sleep, cant wait to eat and get lifting. I know once the weights stop moving all these little things wont matter.

Luis kept teasing as he ate candy because I was fasting…so I kept teasing him he would end up in the 93 class with me.

92.9kg in undies my scaleat 5am and my brain and coordination is proper fkt right now. I am clumsy as shit but not really feeling the effects of dehydration which is awesome.

Also learned that there are going to be regional champs (read strong AF) here today using this meet as a test meet for their next meet in 2 weeks. This actually takes a ton of pressure off of me* and will let me learn some stuff too.

*Everybody kept saying how well I would do, I kept explaining that in real gyms I am not that strong (i use different phrasing but I mean the same thing).

Back hurts from this awesome bed but we about to go to weigh in and then I can start fueling up.

Weigh in 92.6kg i will call the clamps 200g for 185kg 2x BW

I had almost a liter of electrolyte stuff and 3 bites of rice and am full.

Going to try real hard nit to force feed.

Luis has the squat od the tournament already maybe lift. It was probably a 7 second grinder.

93kg got moved to the 3rd group.

I dropped my opener to 205 and am going last.

Warmups have been hit or miss but i think i just need to keep knees out.

Oh, its 1 and the 2nd flight is just now finishing. No idea how that happens.

I am fucking ready.

Out of Luis, Julio, JJ and Michele only Julio missed a lift.

Cramped up on Last warmup and 2nd walkout but hopefully is good now. Been pounding saltlite and elextrolyte mix.

I won bench.

170 was hella grind and i am happier missing 180 than getting 175 but i doubt i had 171.

One of our judges is legit ipf and was super strict on squat depth and then was giving the press commands which were each a 1234 rapid count i shit you not. It reminded me of markkos comps.

Everyone hit at least 2 benches.

Just found out i can’t wiggle my toes which i do to make sure i drive through heels. This might get ugly.

Just found out for deads they eliminated groups so abiut 40 people are going to go in order FML

If their speed is any indication this will be at least an hour inbetween dead attempts.

I want to pass my 2nd and 3rd attempt.

Deadlift cant bounce when you set it down regardless of holding onto bar or not.

I cant believe Deadlift is where i bomb out.

At least everybody else is dealing with this.

Goos news bar can bounce thank goodness and they at least divided the men and women to shorten breaks.

Sounds like you’re doing well. Yes, arguably DL can bounce provided you control the bar until it touches the floor. Although, depending on the judge, you can get pinged for slamming because that is effectively not controlling the bar.

3 for 3 on deads top was 275.

And the best moment of day was julio hitting his last deadlift and literally and voluntarily letting gi of the bar. There is no rational explanation.

Then i was attacked by a gecko.

It’s more common than you think (voluntary bar drop, not gecko attacks although they may also be more common than you think). Pretty sure it’s just excitement. Also one reason I never, EVER drop my DLs in training.

This really was a perfect 1st meet. I need to remember that just as we are learning to do meets these guys are learning to run one which is infinitely more difficult.

I went 8-9 and 240-170-275 for 685 and had the highest Squat, Bench and Deadlift out of everybody. There were 2 women and a man in the light weights group that were more impressive though.
I am most proud about getting 9 whites on my squat.
I am also relieved that I beat my last Mock Meet total of 1501 if only by 9 pounds. Its good to remember I have been injured and the Bench pause is not what we expected.

-HERO of the Day easily Naykira recording everything and keeping us hydrated.
-Lift of the Day: Luis with an 8+ second Squat (not an exaggeration) that I think he hitched (whites so doesnt matter). Michele had a really awesome lift. She missed her 2nd dead to grind it on the the third. You could actually see the moment on her face when she mentally ā€œburned the bridgesā€.
-Most Hilarious moment was Julio’s deadlift.
-Broken spirit award goes to the IPF judge The other 2 judges were passing any Deadlift that stopped moving above the knees regardless of lockout.. He actually yelled "ā€œNO MAMES!ā€ after they passed a Dead. In this context it means ā€œDo you have eyes or are you unfamiliar with what a lock out is?ā€ This judge was really nice and good spirited about everything. He took a lot of heat from a lot of the competitors. We got a chance to pick his brain a bit about anything PL related.
-Most Learnedist THing Wait much longer to start warming up to avoid squatting for 3 hours before starting attempts. #OOPS


Found this on my tights

The grownups all sat on the other side of the table and ordered beer…I ordered a Pastel de Ferrero, Chocolate Oreo Ice Cream and a glass of milk which came in a cow glass.

Happy as a really tired clam.

How could I forget this? NOBODY GOT INJURED OR TWEAKED!!! My back is sore as shit which is either my excessive depth squats or this shit bed and traveling. Luis’s is too so I think it is more travel and bed related.
