I think the guy who beat you had a slightly wider rear lat spread.
That’s about it though…

Stu, you’re a beast. That rear double-bi you had at 1:50 should have been game-over for everyone else. Your most-muscular poses were insane! I don’t care to ridicule the other 3 guys. Getting on stage while sober in any condition takes balls. But the video speaks for itself and you were the clear winner.
Now I’m no expert…but you were robbed!!
Apart from being taller, I can’t see how the guy in green beat you?? You were in so much better condition and nailed your poses really well. Combined with your better overall development, proportions and symmetry, you just to me looked wayyyy better! I guess that’s why I’m not a judge lol!
Was hard to concentrate on the vid tho’ cos the guy in pink (?) on the end was making me laugh so much with his freaky posing:)
I slip on oil a few times (they did a pretty poor job of keeping the floor dry-lol), but a pretty decent routine. Hopefully I’ll do a bit better in 2 weeks and get a nice vid of it ![]()

OKay guys, I managed to get the Overall pose-down and edit it to just under the 10 minute limit. Here you go,… I’ll keep my own thoughts to myself -lol. I’ll also try to get y posing routine and the lightheavy judging up this week as well. Enjoy ![]()

He trains at the promoter’s gym.

Damn I feel bad for ya Stu, you did a great job, let’s just hope that you get the result you deserve in your next show!
Keep up the good work, we’ll be rooting for ya.
LightHeavyweight Prejudging. Apparently all it took was one set of mandatories and I had won. Which is damn cool,… last year I won the Novice Heavies after one turnaround, and I had joked with my training partner Corey that I wanted to improve so much that the open class would be for second place -lol. I’m expecting the competition to be much steeper at the May 1st show, it usually has a huge turnout, and with people actually traveling pretty far to compete. A top 3 finish at that show (assuming the level of competitor I went up against last year) would be very cool in my book.

Good job Stu. Good luck May 1st.
As I’m aiming to come in tighter for the 5/1 show, I’m gauging where I’m currently at (8 days out) with where I was 8 days out from the last (4/17) show. The MONDAY before the last show, I weighed in at 177/178 lbs, which brought me down to 173 on the morning of the contest. So I figure if I can be 175 by next Monday, I should be on track to come in closer to 170 for the 1st. As of this morning, I was 176.8 lbs, so barring any unforeseen fluctuations (which are usually just glycogen, water and salt anyway) I think I’m on target. Hopefully the difference will be noticeable in my quads, while allowing me to retain my upper body thickness.

Well, that explains that. It’s pretty clear that you absolutely blew him away! Complete bullshit.

For me personally your transitions between poses were just a fraction rushed and would benefit from being a half second slower.
Other than that-great job! Your posing and control have improved considerably from what I remember from last year.

Thanks man,… I think maybe the music choice just subconsciously had me a little ‘fired up’, and maybe I did rush to really ‘hit’ each shot. I’ll be taking run-throughs every day this week leading up to the May 1st show, so maybe I’ll try it out with slower, maybe more ‘graceful’ transitions. The week before this last show, after every depletion workout (I had John, Mike, as well as myself just kill our carbs and run down glycogens levels so we could carb load the Friday before the show), we’d go through our posing routines with the other two guys watching, and picking things apart. This was pretty helpful, as you can never really see yourself, and to add to the matter, is the fact that the judges are actually a bit lower than the stage, so for people who tend to naturally lean-back on certain poses (I had this issue last year with my lat spread, and it made my stomach look like it was sticking out!), being constantly reminded is a good thing.
Something I should have mentioned last week, was in regard to my concern with just running my body down with 3 shows over 2 months’ time. While I do make use of a lot of veggies, obviously contest prep is very taxing on your body. I decided to throw in Biotest’s new Mineral Support product, and while I can’t give you blood values or anything really objective, I can state that I’m certainly sleeping a hell of a lot better.

Hey Stu I’m guessing you missed this with everything going on withe contest:

You mentioned above you wear 33in. pants, did you notice an increase in waist size as you gained weight, even when you were the same leanness? I actually wear 32in. pants now but have a 34.5in waist lol…I guess the companies want people to feel thinner. I used to have a 29.5in waist when I was really skinny, I’m wondering if I’ll still have the potential to get around 30in when I’m around 220lb or so
[/quote]
Lol, sorry, I guess I did (I try to answer everything, you guys know that!). After last year’s contest, when I had gotten down to 170 lbs (my first time below 200 in years!), my belt (I only own one) was at the furthest notch. I had actually never gone past the 3rd, sometimes the 4th on especially ‘skinny’ days, but never the 5th, and last, before. Well, in the entire year from last May’s show, until this year, I never had to move it back from the 5th. In fact, as I prepped this time, I found that it wasn’t tight enough to keep my pants up, and I had to buy another belt. So I guess it’s possible to put on quality size, without having some of the added ‘bulk’ going to your waist. I wouldn’t obsess about it though, as that will usually hinder any gains you might otherwise make. I think in my particular case, it was a matter of intelligently controlling the rebound, and making the best use of the effect on my body to add quality size with a program that would address body parts that needed extra work, provide nutrients, and proper supplementation to allow for adeq1uate recovery, and yet also provide a certain amount of latitude, so that I wouldn’t feel like I was still in contest-prep mode (and be able to enjoy my summer vacation with my girl). If you look at my starting pics from this last prep, you’ll see that I’m certainly a good deal away from “lean”. However, by offseason bodybuilding standards, it was a considerably lean place to be starting from (as my brother, and ParagonA both pointed out).
Remember that ‘normal’ people’s standards for leanness are very different from our own. Even at the start, at about 209 lbs this past Jan, most people I know (who don’t know a thing about bodybuilding) thought I was ‘in amazing shape’ (all the while I felt like if I had pushed it a bit more, I would have crossed the line where I start to feel a bit sloppy).
S
Oh yea you were definitely lean compared to most people even at the start
I’m not worried about putting on size on my waist, as long as most of it is temporary…it seems like it was for you. Right now my waist is about 34.5 inches but I’ve had it as low as 29.5in before when I was really skinny, I’m carrying too much fat now so hopefully for a contest I could get it to around 30in again. (was 31.5 at around 12-13%bf). I thought was was pretty small compared to most bodybuilders but I think I was comparing to IFBB BBers…it seems for naturals 30in may be somewhat common.
Stu- your brought the whole package and had the best energy!! Were you able to talk to the judges at all?
The head judge walked backstage, and I asked him what just happened,… (he’s actually the promoter of the show I’m doing May 1st). First he told me that 5 of the 7 judges voted for the eventual winner. Other tidbits included (and after I watched the video, I realized they were all BS):
-The other guy had better arms (seriously? they were smaller than mine, and he had a lot more height than I did)
-Better back (I’m pretty sure I crushed everyone on my rear bi shot)
…and a bunch of other stuff. Again, I don’t want to run down the laundry list, because I don’t think there’s any way to list why you were slighted and not sound like you’re bitter (which, admittedly, I am, I worked damn hard, and could understand if the guy who beat me at least looked like he deserved to), but just looking at the hands on hips most muscular shot, you realize that they guy had nothing on me but deeper quad cuts (probably genetic, because his hams and calves lagged, and he even had a stomach pouch, so how can be conditioned).
There were a lot of ‘issues’ at this show,… the promoter’s finance’ winning her class, a close friend of his who had stayed over at his house a bunch of times winning his class (the announcer made this known when he was MCing! -lol), and at the end, (I don’t know if I had to cut this off because of the 10 min limit on youtube videos), the MC credits the overall winner to the show promoter’s “prep-team”… my girlfriend wouldn’t let me watch the video after the show, she knew I’d get a little upset (on stage, you don’t really look at the other competitors, but I certainly wasn’t impressed with the guy backstage,… we chatted briefly, and he seemed nice enough, but I do wonder if he knew he was going to win, or how he feels after looking at pics and videos).
