Just an update. I decided to try some lifting yesterday (wednesday) and it went well for the most part. Didn’t wanna upset the shoulder so I did no bench and deadlifts didn’t wanna cooperate because my tendons in in my extensors are hurting when I’d pull. Squats were fine.
I know I have my whole life ahead of me, and I thank a lot of you guys for the encouragement and the help. One thing I will never understand though is even if someone is asking for help, that people still feel the need to say shit to them. Just to make them feel worse. I will admit that the title of the post is a little much, but thats no reason to attack that person. Be the bigger person and just help or leave them alone. I’m 19 and I’m more mature than some of you, and I find pleasure in that.
I’d emphasize how exercising is awesome even with a messed up shoulder
Just go out, grab headphones and run faster than 90% of people for 45minutes without even trying, looking better than pretty much anyone

T-Nation is made up of a group of really good guys, but you need to understand they’re the kind that act like army buddies.
That is one of the best compliments you can give a guy, I think.
So, saying that, if you come here with really difficult problems then the guys here will do a lot of stuff to try and help. It’s happened many times and there has always been lots of good advice.
You may have some form of depression. Who can say other than you and perhaps a professional. But just from what you’ve told us that’s not what makes depression. If you do have it, it’s from something other than not getting to lift, and having problems with your girlfriend. This too shall pass.
I’m very curious. Didn’t he defend you against the guys who were calling you fat on that 22 inch arms you created ages ago? He was also the one who showed you maximum respect for being “big” as well as president of a company IIRC and frequently made it a point to congratulate you.
I get the same vibe from you as with heavythrower and Maraudermeat who despite ALWAYS being respected by our dentist on the forum, took every single opportunity to attack him. Of course, heavythrower was annoyed at never being invited to Colorado, not to mention his failing/DOA career etc… and Marauder did his level best to get noticed and be a published author/coach whatever here - and so both were understandably annoyed by the popularity of a frickin dentist on a BB forum.
He had/has a caustic writing style and he was more often than not annoying, but he’s not the only one on this forum. There are guys out here who genuinely have a bone to pick with the guy (Skynett who now posts as @#$%! on the forum, Nards who were both picked on by him for no reason, etc) and of course the “gurus” or future PTs whatever who were/are trying to sell their services and found his simplistic philosophy and list of followers on the site both annoying and an impediment to their goals (all but two have stopped posting on here though oddly enough)
Im positive EyeDentist never agreed with everything or even most of his writings but he never seems to care enough to spew vitriol. Ditto for flipcollar. Gregron and many others…is it because these three are actually successful outside this site and have a professional education?
I’m just curious. What drives you and people like you…even though I already know.

Now as for PX and anyone claiming we “don’t know him well enough to criticize” the guy (regardless of how well educated) is a freaking moron , walks around at 30% bodyfat yet feels intimately connect to competitive bodybuilding. makes it a habit to offend everyone he can with his delusions of grandeur about being “big” when he is in reality a total lardass.[/quote]
Hmnnn, obviously going from 135 to 175 is a major change, so I guess it makes sense that you feel the way you do about suddenly being unable to train like you used to. Still, taking 2 weeks off, and feeling like you’re losing size… that’s all in your head man. You’re losing the appearance of some muscle tone due to less water and glycogen in your muscles, but it’s highly doubtful that you’ve lost muscle in such a brief period.
I will say that having had shoulder issues myself, I completely understand being unable to perform certain exercises, but at the end of the day, you do have options available to you. When I had my first shoulder surgery, I was in the gym 4x each week (arm in a sling), hitting quads 2x and hams and calves 2x. Even after I was out of Physical Therapy, and given the “go ahead” to train, there was the re-learning of what movements were still on the menu of available options. The bottom line though, was that despite losing some of my favorites, there were still plenty of alternatives.
Trying your best to frame your situation from a healthy perspective would probably help quite a bit. Your injuries don’t sound career ending, nor even requiring surgery. All in all, I’d say you’re gonna be ok once you get your head straight.

Hey guys. I’ve been lifting for about 2 years and I’m 19 years old. Went from 135 to 175 pounds which I’m pretty proud of. Never really had any serious injuries to keep me out of the gym except minor stuff like weak rotator cuffs that hurt or pulling something and letting it recover for a few days, then it was fine. But for the past 2 weeks I’ve had a shoulder problem in my right shoulder, the pt said it may be a capsule strain or something like that so i have stretches to do a couple times a day and they’re helping. I also have tendonitis or tennis elbow in my right elbow which hurts only when I do tricep isolation.
Things that were fun aren’t fun anymore. I don’t find the joy in life that I used to, and my girlfriend says I’m getting distant and is worried that I’m going to break up with her, which I’m not. I almost can’t stand to look in the mirror because I just imagine and see myself getting smaller after taking 2 weeks off. I just need some sort of lifting, it was the thing I looked forward to most in the day. I thought about taking up biking or something like that. What do you guys think I should do? Anything would be appreciated, thanks.

All you need… is a little perspective. Put on your big girl panties. Geez
