Spin the Black Circle

Past couple of days have been creative training - farmer walks, overhead carries, box jumps, etc. Just a little bit of different stuff.

I might try to get into my smaller suit and lift in it on Saturday - but my gym is having an open house to the community as a whole and I think I might scare people off.

Well, I made it into the smaller suit, and got the straps up, but I was alone and couldn’t get the straps up with my belt on too. I’m thinking I’ll probably wear the smaller suit in Miami, and bring the bigger one as backup. I did 335 easy, and deep, in the big suit, but I’m going to have to work the kinks out of the small suit. We’ll see if I can wear it deadlifting.

This means that I’ll probably need to get another, even smaller suit, for when I am back at 165. It’s wild, how equipment that was once tight is now not so bad.

Getting smaller whilst getting stronger? Does this mean when you’re squatting over 600 I’ll be able to put you in my pocket?

Oh, I’m not getting smaller - far from it! I’m just more used to equipment than I was a year ago.

But you can put me in your pocket any time!

When do you leave for SD?

I’ve already started packing, even tho I’m like, 17 days out. Making a list and checking it twice…

I did some raw bench work on Sunday, but it was light - just speed work. I’m hoping to get in the shirt once or twice more. Unfortunately, the husband is working this weekend, so that means shirt work may have to take place during evening weekday gym hours, with a bigger audience.

If any of the “adjusting” of the shirt is required I’m sure there will be an audience!

I leave for the Sandy Eggo on Wednesday, and it can’t come soon enough.

Yesterday I got 225 pretty easily. I’m much more comfortable in the shirt.

However, I angered my right wrist a little with 205, when I slid slideways off the bench. Ouch.

205-ish will probably be my opener.

Hey PMPM - as I recall that you compete in the USAPL fed. They don’t seem to have many competitions here in Colorado, or am I just not finding them online?

I see there are NASA comps in Denver 2-3 times a year. Have you ever competed in the NASA fed? And do you know of any pros/cons to either?

Both NASA and USAPL generally have four comps a year in the state - March, May, August/September, and December. The meets are frequently within a week or two of one another, and I’ve only done USAPL. WABDL also has a very small presence in CO, but they are pretty inactive.

The next USAPL meet is August 1-2, the State Games of America. I will be reffing on Sunday, and maybe Saturday. http://www.thesportscorp.org/html/sportsCorp/SGA2009/sports/powerlifting.html

The December meet is the Colorado State Championships and the USAPL American Open (I guess it is National level competition for people who haven’t yet made Nationals or something - not sure). I will compete one day, and maybe ref on Sunday. http://www.rmlccolorado.com/entrys/colostatechamp.pdf

My NASA buddy at the gym says there is a NASA meet on August 15, but I don’t know where it is. The Holiday Inn somewhere, or something.

USAPL is the US affiliate of the IPF - which means possibility of international competition and the Arnold, but much stricter with squat depth, bench pauses, etc. NASA is less strict, and I don’t think they have international competition. I don’t know which entity has the larger membership in CO.

Do USAPL, so I can call your squats high just to piss you off! Hell, do the meet next week!!!

Speaking of pissed off, it took me two attempts to DL 315 today - in my suit. WTF-ever. 345 was easy, 365 not so much. I fucking hate deadlifting.

More pull throughs and RDLs. I’m thinking my opener will be around 345, which would still be a (pathetic) meet PR. We’ll see how I’m feeling the day of the event. This will be my first afternoon comp, so that is something else to consider.

Potential Openers (to be converted to kg):

Squat: 365
Bench: 205
DL: 345

It just occurred to me that the shit-ton of box jumps I did this morning (along with jumping rope [well, jumping like Catalina in My Name is Earl], crunches, and light overhead squats) for cardio might’ve impacted my deadlifting.

Duh.

I guess I should stick to lame ass boring cardio for the next 2 weeks.

Thanks pmpm!

I’d come watch August 1&2 but I’m in Maryland visiting aging Mom and Dad and going to my 30th reunion. Should be fun since it’s the first I’ve attended.

I’m thinking about the NASA meet in November or maybe the USAPL December meet now that I know about it.

shit - can’t even give a newbie a break at his virgin meet! lol

LOL, go there so you can get a picture with Big Willie. Extra points if he’s holding an inzer bag…

That would be an awesome picture. Epic.

I chipped a tooth doing push presses today. Chipped the same place that I chipped seven years ago while making out, drunk. Ha!

FYI:

Making out drunk = good

Push presses drunk = entertaining but not as good

Ouch!

sorry about your toof…

kmc

Last bench yesterday. I got a spare shirt from my friend that I think is better than my usual shirt. Opener around 205, 2nd will be 225, 3rd will be 230+.

Last squat today. Will hit my planned opener of 365, and see how it feels.

I decided to just deadlift the bar at the meet. It’s the only way I know I won’t bomb.

I can so relate to that right now  Hoping to get a good dead lift in this week…but not holding my breath about it.

Ha! Done that. I was bored with drinking, so I decided to lift.

365 in the bigger suit felt pretty good, I wrapped my own knees and everything. For whatever reason I couldn’t latch my belt closed. I tried it in the smaller suit and only made it a quarter of the way down. I think I’ll wear the bigger suit, and see how bloated I can get after weigh-ins. I figure if my handler can wrap me tighter than I wrap myself, I’ll be fine, and perhaps a closed belt, or an open belt a notch smaller…

Ugh. I can’t wait to get back down.

I climbed today, and it sucked. I was tired, sore from yesterday, and my right shoulder was fucked from that torquey squat thing. I had to take a 20 minute break from our 2 hours, and my last climb was a wussy route and it was still tough. My grip was icky too. Generally shitty day…

Until I went to magic chiropractor, who fixed my shoulder, confirmed my suspected itty bitty hernia-in-training, and rubbed my butt in a completely professional manner.

Then, I may have had a few chocolate chips.
