Spin the Black Circle

Spent 2.5 hours at the indoor climbing gym with Ali “Bench Press Queen” Miller today. We had a great time, I really want to make this a regular “fitness” kind of thing.

All sorts of people there with nothing but forearms and heads…scrawny little bastards!

Thanks for the information, I’d only be at a meet to watch though. Cool new picture too. Train hard!

Do you train at RMLC? I once competed in a strongman contest run by them. I live closer to Colorado Springs though.

sounds like you are having FUN!!
when do you buckle down to prepare for July? or is that not definite yet?

I go there every once in a while with my friend Paula. It’s a bit out of the way for me, but I have a great time when we do make it out there.

It isn’t definite, but I am treating it as definite so that when it comes time to buy the ticket’s it’s like it’s always been known that I’m going to VA that weekend…hehehe.

I don’t know when I’ll be buckling down. The past month or so has just kind of been hit or miss, I’ve just been trying to stay in the gym doing SOMETHING, but I feel a bit out of sorts. It’ll pass.

Sick arch baby.

Take a pilates class if you’re out of sorts.

I bought an ipod yesterday because the music at my gym sucks. The guy asked if I wanted it for yoga class. Maybe I’ll take one of those. I’m out of sorts too.

Julie- have you ever taken a pilates class? Oh my, harder than it looks, LOL!! But different can be fun sometimes!!

I have never taken one. I think doing anything out of your normal routine can be invigorating and difficult. I’m just not much of a class person. I watch the women in the cardio classes and think I’d die if I had to take one.

No, but I mean it really is HARD!!
I took a class with grown men…big strong guys, that could you know, lift heavy, lol…

but when comes down to leg lifts and planks and all that they were nearly in tears, LOL!! Kinda makes me wonder why they were in that class to begin with…hmmm

I was sore for days after…have FUN!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Monday - benching/upper body

No spotter, but anyway, bench: 5x95, 3x115, 1x135, 1x155, 0x170 (I think I could get this with a liftoff?). My left tricep was unexpectedly sore for this - I think from the climbing/belaying.

Push press - 6x85, 2x6x95, 5x95

Rack lockouts - 6x135, 3x6x185 - these wrecked my shoulders more than my tris, so…

Overhead triceps extensions - 6x50, 8x70, 2x6x90, 20x50, 40x30

DB concentration curls - 3x5x30

Barbell rows - 10x135, 3x6x185

Tueday: limited gym time…

deficit deadlifts: 6x115, 2x3x185. I used 35 lb plates instead of 45s to make the deficit. They felt great. I had to cut things short because people were eyeing the power cage.

Squats: 5x135, 3x185, 2x3x225, 3x3x245. I got new oly shoes for these, and they felt AWESOME. So solid and secure! I’ll be using them more often.

Had to leave early…planning to hit the gym for more lower body fun today, maybe some cardio too.

I was eyeing you, not the cage…

I mean, they were probably eyeing you…

Hahaha. It was the creepy little Greek dude who walks in wearing his belt and wears it for every exercise, grunting and sneezing and generally being loud and um, creepy.

Hey~

Since my back injury I have been taking Zumba classes, and it has been helping by getting a lot of blood flow into my lower back. Besides, I like latin dance too

By the way, like the “Chuck Taylors” in your pic too. True powerlifiter!

Hope to see you in Virginia! We’ll be making our Hotel Reservations soon!

What kind of shoes did you get? I love mine. However, I’m going to try squatting in flat shoes for a bit to see what happens.

I wear my oly ones for everything except deads now. They’re so dorky they’re cool. I even wear them on the elliptical

Mrbeefy - I sure hope we can go to VA and see you and the wife, Raw Nationals was a blast last year!

Ouroboro - I got these when they were on sale for $45 on 4/1:

That would be one hell of a drive from Thornton.

Free2Be - it’s about 45 minutes without traffic. I usually go with Paula on Friday nights (don’t be jealous of my exciting life), and leave directly from work downtown.

Thursday:

I was going to do some upper stuff, but my triceps were still sore and I didn’t feel like I got my moneys worth with my last lower body workout. So I did some more!

Regular sumo deadlifts with 45 plates:
5x135 3x225 1x245 1x275 (easy!) 0x295 (broke it, moved four inches, and stalled), 0x295 (broke it half an inch). The 295 stalled at the same place my 352 stalled at Nationals in February - just a few inches up, below the knees. I need to figure out what this weakness is.

Rack pulls - second to lowest position: 2x5x225, 315x 4, 2, 3
Bottom position: 3x225, 315x3, 2

So when I have the bar at the bottom of my kneecap, I can lock out 315; and I can break 295 off the ground but not get it up to the bottom of my kneecap to get it to lockout.

Sumo stance SLDLs: 135x3, 6, 6, 6

By this point, I had an insane pump in my lower back and decided to go home and eat dinner. My next meet is on 5/16, and I’d like to figure out this pulling issue before that.

Yeah, but how do you not hit traffic? I actually am jealous.

I used to have the same problem actually. Not really that uncommon. You get speed off the bottom. Try doing rack pulls at about 4 inches above the floor. This will probably be weaker than your floor pull. If you find that to be the case that is your weak point and you should work it. See I’m actually good for something.

Now…how the fuck do you do sumo stance sldls?
