Spike/Spike Shooter Non-Responders?

Just curious if you had tried the new Spike Shotgun yet? I know they changed the formula up a bit. I would like to try but didn’t want to dump $60 on these if they didn’t work for me.

Not sure why the others don’t. I am not a big caffeine user,2 green teas in the morning, and a small black coffee half hour before working out.

I could drink a can of the Spike Shooter and take a nap 10 minutes later. Kinda sucks

edit I just wrote a whole blurb thinking you wrote you WERE a big caffeine user. Anyway caffeine generally begins to give you a boost about 20-45 min after you take it. It’s best to take on an empty stomach but thats usually not possible with most people. My recommendation…eat 1 hour before your workout, and about 10 minutes before you leave to drive to the gym drink the shooter and by the time your done you warmup and start hitting the weights it should start kicking in.

Try drinking a can (or even 1/2 can) and then starting your training 10 minutes later.

I don’t have any experience with the Shooters/Shotgun, but Spike capsules(and other energy drinks) take about 30 minutes to kick in for me.

I haven’t ordered Spike in a long ass time. I freaking miss that shit! I feel on top of the world when I take it.

I always thought that if you weren’t a responder to Spike Shooters you weren’t a responder to life. My first can felt like Incredible Hulk Juice. I wanted to punch down a house.(Hulk juice. maybe I should market that) seriously though, I felt like getting the blood pumping was the best way to feel the difference.

i tried a Spike pill before and didn’t notice anything.

i’m interested in the Spike Shotgun though, will see if the local 7/11 carries em

Spike Shooter is the only energy drink that’s ever made me feel anything.

Everyone’s different. I respond pretty well to all variations of the Spike formula: mental focus and clarity from the Caffeine-Free Spike, physical energy and stamina from the Spike shooter, somewhere in between from the regular Spike pills.

My wife would probably go straight to E.R. after drinking a big coffee - she gets quite hyper even after a small amount of caffeine. I never even suggested she should try the Shooter or the regular Spike pills, which would probably be a pretty bad experience for her. In fact, I told her to not touch those things, after seeing how agitated she becomes after drinking a pretty weak coffee.
Yet she said she didn’t feel anything after taking a Caffeine-Free Spike. Go figure.

So, I guess, the lesson to take home is - your experience on stimulants, is yours entirely. The guy next door will respond in a pretty different way to the same stuff.

Meh, I’ve tried both Spike and Caffeine-Free Spike. The first time I used it, I felt absolutely great. Had an AMAZING workout, felt great all day. Next 10 times, nothing at all. My pee smells like raspberries, thats about it. I have taken 4 regular Spike and gone to bed an hour later. Seriously no noticeable effect at all.

I don’t know if i built up a tolerance instantly, or what. I can even take 3-4 months off of it and take some of what I have without feeling anything. I haven’t even gone through a bottle and a box yet, so it isn’t like I have been a long time user and the effects have slowly dwindled. There was one great time, and the rest NOTHING.

I rarely ever drink caffeine if ever. I think the last time was when I had a mountain dew two months ago. I use no other stimulants at all, and theres really nothing I can think of.

If anyone has any ideas on how to help me achieve the effect I did from Spike once, that would seriously be great. I have 10ish pills left to experiment with, and if I can’t get them to work I probably wont be buying any more.

I am the same exact way. Total non-responder to both Shooters and Spike pills. Can nap 10-15 minutes later.

If I wake up really tired and drink a Shooter, I may get jitters and palpitations but ZERO energy. Weird, huh?

And I’m not a big caffeine drinker, either. Must be like 2 years since I regularly had caffeine. I read somewhere that this non-response to caffeine has to do with one phase of the liver’s enzymatic breakdown process (Phase I or something like that).

Wish JB would write an article on it.

FWIW:

I seem to be able to use Spike (pills) for months, one each morning pre-workout. Then my reaction seems to taper off and I give it up for several months. When I get back on it. BAM it does wonders again.

BUT, I also consume a lot of caffeine, and it is entirely possible that caffeine intake/ addiction/ withdrawal is interfering with my perceptions of Spike.

My girlfriend is the same way, she could take any caffeine pill/drink and sleep 30 mins later.

Well at least I am not alone. I would be interested in knowing that. I bet Cy Wilson would know. Does he still work for T-Nation?

Anyway I am going to check GNC or 7 eleven and see if they carry the new shotgun’s and give it a shot. At least I can try just one.

Jeezus, those Shooters practically put me into cardiac arrest they are so damn strong. I’m amazed if anyone felt nothing from those.
