SPIDEY: Let's Get You Shredded

We have weekend play dates in the sandbox too. You can come to the next one. We’ll hide the “no girlz allowed” sign.

Omg! Hahahahah!

Famale issues could be a whole other thread…don’t let relationship issues interfere with gym time! That’s your time!

Sorry about your dog, bud

We’re male though…

Sorry to hear that dude, the dog part especially. Good to hear you have the right mind for the situation.

Ouch man really sorry to hear it. That sucks have lost 2 myself. My only advice is pour yourself into training and use the emotional stress to fuel intense workouts. It helps.

Thanks guys. Apparently Moe (my dog) ate something in the last few days that just basically shut down his kidneys. It was out of no where. Think it was probably a bone or something he found. But he’s not in pain anymore, so I’m happy.

Still not ‘training’, but I decided to go to my garage and see what I could get easily on Flat BB Bench. I haven’t done it in some time, and Jake suggested I switch to it. Got to 240 before reps speed kind of got too slow for my liking. Obviously that’s a shitty bench, BUT idk if I’ve even tried over 2 plates per side before, so cool!

Also Nez, you still can’t play in our sandbox

Boys are gross anyway.

Filled out your frame considerably dude, when’s the prep starting?

Just so I can relish your anguish at dieting to make mine easier…lol
LOL tomorrow :frowning:

I’m starting back on last weeks macros though, 450/220/80 C/P/F on lifting days, with 350/220/80 on off/cardio days. So not too bad. lol
I think it’s definitely a good call getting started on the prep now man, 16 weeks should be about perfect I think. When I competed in physique last fall I definitely waited too long to start prep, only about 11 weeks…ended up basically living on elliptical/treadmill, super low macros, just not good all around. Lost a lot of muscle, felt like shit, and had no energy for school or baseball. I had a pretty similar starting weight as you, I was 200 at the start and ended up weighing about 175 on stage after carbing up. I of course thought I would be shredded at 185, lol!

Damn dude, I’m sorry to hear about your dog. I lost mine not too long ago, it sucks. Dogs really are man’s best friend

yeah I agree, the more time the better. It’s not like in the extra few weeks of cutting I was going to ad 15 lbs of stage weight lol.

Curious, how tall are you? And you have any pics from your show? How did you go about learning the Physique ‘poses’ (if you can even call them that). lol. Not many guys here have competed in the actual ‘Physique’ category here, so nice to know there’s someone. Did you compete in a tested fed?

I’m a little over 6’1. I competed in the NANBF, it’s a tested federation. As far as learning the poses, I’ll be honest…my posing absolutely sucked. Between class, studying, gym for lifting/cardio several hours a day, and baseball I just didn’t make time for posing practice. I definitely underestimated the importance of posing in physique, I basically just watched some videos of physique contests on youtube and got up on stage, did the quarter turns, and smiled. I’m still pissed looking at pictures, I finished 6th out of 12 but I think I would have been top 4 if my posing didn’t look so awkward.

But it’s all good, it was a great learning experience and I’ve got much higher goals for when I compete again next summer. I’d like to think I’m pretty good at posing now… I usually train pretty late at night and have the gym to myself, so I work on posing between sets without looking like a tool, lol. I’ll definitely keep following your thread and help you out with anything I can!

Well that’s awesome i won’t be going in there completely blind then, seeing as we are similar builds and such. The show I’m doing isn’t tested, but I’m not really going for a ‘win’, so I’m alright with that lol.

Any good suggestions on some videos of ‘good’ physique posing?

Look up and start following several of the top IFBB physique pros on facebook…I’ve tried to use photos of them posing and in competitions to practice and see what style of posing works best for me. Steve Cook, Alexandre Carneiro, Sheridan Hause, and Jonathan Cooper are a few I follow.

As far as things I think are important in posing for physique: stay tight, especially in the abs, but don’t visibly strain or flex too hard. Stage presence and looking relaxed are huge in physique, you don’t want to be looking fatigued or shaking during posing. On your quarter turn side poses, put your front foot (foot closest to the judges) further ahead than your back foot, and twist at the torso…makes your waist look smaller as opposed to having your front foot back. On your pose from the back, work on doing a lat spread with one hand on your hip, seems to be the variation of the pose that looks best and that judges like.

Also, at your height, make sure your board shorts go all the way to your knee. I figured that I hit my legs a lot harder than many physique guys probably do, so I got board shorts that were above the knee, thinking my legs would give me an advantage. Well, looking at pictures now, it just made me look tall and lanky compared to my shorter opponents

Sweet man, solid tips. I appreciate it. And thanks sooooo much for the tips on the shorts. I was likely going to do what you said you did, go with a bit shorter shorts to show off my decent quads, but I’ll try to avoid that pitfall if you think it’s not the best look for us taller guys. lol

Back in the gym after my little break, and officially the first week of prep!

7-2-13

Power Push

Flat Bench: So, I took things really slow, trying to get form down, paused reps, fast reps, all that on warm-ups… and I still hate it. Last set, I felt a little ‘pop’ in my shoulder. Nothing bad, but it’s usually a bad sign, so may have to go back to Floor Press, or to Decline (though Jake hates Decline I think lol)
165x8
185x6
205x3 → pop, so just racked it.

DB Incline: Felt pretty good
65’sx10
75’sx8
85’sx4

Rear Delt Rows:
60’sx3x12

Meadows Swings:
30’sx4x30

OHP: After the pre-exhausting stuff, literally every rep burns my delts with such intensity lololol
85x8
95x6
105x4

Rope Pushdowns:
4x10

French Press:
4x15

Abs

Good workout, happy to be back in the gym. Frustrated with pressing as usual, but otherwise good.

What’s wrong with decline. Most say its the king of chest exercises to keep shoulder out of it
ryanbCXG wrote:

I think because it just doesn’t have a lot of ROM, I need more upper pec, etc. I mean the Decline BB seems to be a weird exercise anyways. Like I love it, Phil Hernon and Dorian Yates are fans, yet it seems like it’s rarely used.
