IT’S NOT ABOUT BEING A FUCKING AMERICAN

the point is that it took away from the movie completely. end of story. the flag scene drew all the attention away from the plot line, and destroyed the mood. that’s it. it has nothing to do with pride in my country or anyone else’s country.

are you shitting me? what are you, two years old? you were so distracted by the pretty colors that entire 2.5 hour movie was ruined for you? [/quote]

Read my first three posts.

It’s not about “flashing colors,” it’s about the inference therein.

You jackass.

I agree. We mostly do it to ourselves.

It’s just like the gym. I love the gym, and I’m proud to call it my home, but 95% of the people in there are either ignorant assholes, or ignorant idiots. The other 5% is cool.

I just went through a few of this guys previous posts and it seems he dwells in the political section far more than the bodybuilding specific side of things to this site. Which always confuses me because there are better forums than this to preach your views on war, politics and how good America is.

The more of his posts I read, the more I remember why the flash of the US flag put me off.

get a life. RESEARCHING me? glad you care. in any event. if you can’t see that your hypersensitiviy to ‘old glory’ seems foolish at best and paranoid at worst then there is little i’m going to say to impact you. it’s a movie. about SPIDERMAN! and you and your ‘mates’ get upset over the american flag? that just ruined the flick for you, huh?

as for why i post here and not other forums. i’m a competitive lifter. and the ideas posted here are - often times - so ill-conceived and inane that it’s gotta-have-entertainment! stupid posts by stupid people like you…pure gold, friend.

I’m really wanting to see this one. My little girl has been begging me to take her.

Go see it. It’s worth the entertainment, but there are criticisms for everything ya know

I like to make sure that the person I am getting into the argument isn’t a dick in general. To answer any further questions, I’m happy to keep this one going.

It’s a cultural difference. We don’t put the hand over the heart whenever the national anthem is going, nobody has the flag displayed proudly in the front yard, and we don’t pretend to think that our nation is right in every way.

If Spiderman was an Australian movie and the flag was flashed as it was in S3, I would have laughed at it for being stupidly placed.

And before you go on about how insensitive that comment is to the people of 9/11, I say it simply for the fact that not many people who just go and see the movie would know the significance behind it.

It wasn’t mates, it was the whole fucking theatre who groaned and snickered.

It’s not like they flashed ‘Old Glory’ behind Venom or the Sandman is it? They are American aren’t they?

Face it, the Aussie flag is pretty lame. Old Glory and the Union Jack are impressive. Even the maple leaf is pretty cool but most flags around the world are kind of dull and uninspiring.

Maybe in appearance they are, but it’s really the feelings that the flag brings out as a symbol that matters. I don’t think it matched the moment in the film to have the flag there, but it didn’t change what I felt of the movie overall.

Okay. That is near on the most stupid comment ever Big Z.

If you didn’t have 4000+ posts up I would have taken that comment as an attempt at trolling but it must have been a crack at some humour.

People are inspired by their flag regardless of whether it looks ‘impressive or not’. It is what it stands for that makes people feel inspired. As the guy above mentioned.

When I play Aussie Rules, my team has a pretty ordinary strip compared to some teams. Do I feel less inspired because it doesn’t look cool? Fuck no!

You get inspired for the people that wear that strip, the people that support your team and so on.

How’s that? He’s an American hero, isn’t he? In what’s one of the biggest cities in the U.S. - not to mention that Manhattan is world famous. How does that equate to the character having nothing to do with American pride? That makes no sense at all…

I notice many of the comments of hating that scene are coming from folks from Australia and England, so it seems to me this is another case of hating America and being bothered seeing our flag. Which, frankly, sucks - it’s getting really tiresome being hated by the entire world.

Bush’s last term can’t be up soon enough, that’s for sure…

On topic, I loved the movie. And the game for Xbox360 is fantastic. All of NYC to roam around in and have a blast pulling off every cool Spidey move perfectly…if you’re a fan it’s worth a purchase.

I’m from New York myself, and I’m proud to be an American. Just because Spider-Man lives in New York, the movie takes place in Manhattan, and he was created by an American comic book writer means that he represents our country?

I’m not an anti-American, but I thought the flag was a little ridiculous. It’s not like it was just there, it was fucking huge.

Glad to see this thread stayed on topic!

Anyway, I enjoyed the movie. I wasn’t too fussed about going to see it, but was dragged along and ended up being the only one who liked it. Here are the few things I can remember about the movie.

The Sandman was chuffin’ brilliant. Thomas Haden Church did a good job, mind you, they have had some good villain actors in this series, Alfred Molina who played Doctor Octopus was great as well.

Good to see a bigger cameo by Bruce Cambell - always a shame he never got some better movie roles. I for one am looking forward to Bubba Ho’tep 2.

Topher Grace as Venom wasn’t as offensive as everyone had made it out to be. I thought he was alright.

Emo Parker was funny, intetional, I don’t know, but funny nonetheless.

The buzzer scene was very amusing.

The blonde woman was pretty hot.

The monster that is Kirsten Dunst however was up there with Venom as instilling fear in the audience. I for one wasn’t too bothered if the truck was going to flatten her.

I will qualify all my comments by saying that I have never read a spider man comic, I watched the various cartoons over the years so am aware of some stories, but I guess a hardcore fan is always going to difficult to please.

As for the comedy in the movies, that almost ruined The Punisher movie for me, but in this one, it worked well.

I rarely read a comic growing up as well and most of my knowledge about him comes from those now famous cartoons and just listening to other people. I agree with most of what you wrote, however, comedy was ALWAYS in Spiderman. His mouth was the biggest part of his personality, even in the cartoons. That was why I didn’t like who they picked to play him. He never got Spiderman’s true personality down. Spiderman was a nerd…until he put the costume on. Them, you couldn’t get him to shut up over one liners and random putdowns.

That didn’t work in Punisher…because the Punisher has no sense of humor. He’s a killer…period.

I just the film and I must say I don’t think Rami wanted Venom in the film at all. It almost seemed like Brock’s character and everything was tacked on, the movie would have been so much better without venom at all. If it had stayed with Sandman, goblin and all we saw of the symbiote was Peter getting it, changing and redeeming himself, and then saving venom for another film where he could be done right. Also whoever said Topher could act needs a watch that film again man he sucked

I liked the movie i just wish Venom would’ve been in it more. BTW I thought Venom looked huge.

I like topher grace

thats it…

I must admit, unitl you wrote that I had forgotten all the stuff Spiderman used to say, and that aspect was kinda left out of this series. Good point.

The Punisher is probably my favourite cartoon character, slightly ahead of Judge Dredd (until they ruined the series with all the PC rubbish and made that awful movie) and I really didn’t understand what that comedy Russian was doing in that movie.

But as that version was so much better than the old movie with Dolph Lundgren, I still enjoyed it. I understand they are making another Punisher movie, so hopefully they will leave out the cheese for that version.

I am just busting your balls a bit. I have not seen the movie yet but I saw spidey swinging in front of the flag in a commercial. It looked cool.

I don’t know if it is in a cheesy spot in the movie or what, but since it seemed only some of the overseas boys were complaining I would tweak their noses a bit.

My only complaint about the Aussies is they send us their crap beer.
