Ok i saw spiderman 3 yesterday at 4:50pm central time and I gotta say i enjoyed the entire movie
BUT!!!
Vemon!!! WTF!!! They must have been like " lets choose the skinniest guy we can find!" because I always remembered him being this big bodybuilding guys that was freakin alsum but the guy they chose just seemed like a lil kid! My favorite character EVER out of the spider-man series had to be vemon and they just screwed it up! Where is the God Damn tounge??? I just wanted to see vemon be alot MORE MUSCULAR with and without the suit.
Also, in really enjoyed spiderman in the black suit alot more!! He wasnt always crying and whinning like he was through out the movie in the regular suit. It would been alsum to see spiderman just get alil more evil and start hurting innocent cilvians! That would been great. Because i didnt feel the sense that that the suit was really endagering peter or any people of the city. What the heck, he is stronger faster and less naggy that he was before. How is this not a good thing?

Its been a big complaint for a while that they get guys without good physiques to play these kinds of roles, 300 was probably the only exception to that rule.
They only had like 2.5 hours to do everything they wanted to do, and since Venom was a very small part in the movie they had to cut some cool things out for times sake. (Like more with Peter in the suit, more venom time in general)
i personally would have preferred they cut some other stuff in order to add in more venom and fight scene time. i think they tried to compress too much plot into something so small… which i guess had to be done. but they didnt need to drag out the dance scenes and singin scenes…
they could have used that 10+ min to put in some more for venom. i mean, they built it up in previews, know that venom is key, but then give him only 2 parts in movie - meetin sandman, and then the fight scene… thats it!

Actually, they didn’t build it up. They downplayed Venom’s role about as much as they possibly could before this movie was released. In all reality, I didn’t even expect “Venom” to make an appearance.
What you wanted was a video game sequence. That was what they did with Terminator 3 and the whole movie sucked because there was too much CGI and no plot.
There was a kid in the row behind me who started crying when he saw Venom and had to be taken out of movie theater. I give the movie extra cool points for making kids cry.

Which is why this should have been two movies. There was a lot of potential in this, but I think they squandered it by trying to cram in everything possible.
SM3 should have ended with a knock-down, drag out Sandman battle, and then a quick shot of Brock becoming Venom, to set up the next movie.

ok… your right about venom. maybe i just blew it up in MY head cuz i wanted mroe venom hahaha. but, yes, if it can make kids cry it does get cool points. thats why i love Godzilla 1985 so much… i cried when he fell in the volcano… pretty much the best movie of all time… hahhahah

To be fair, Spidey was always supposed to be a guy of average height and lean build. He ends up with exaggerated musculature now and again because, let’s face it, there are some artists in comics who can’t draw a real physique to save their lives.
Personally, I prefer a variety of builds on the heroes, and just wish they’d bloody well strive for that in movies. A bulkier Superman, Batman built like a gymnast, the Flash looking like a runner, etc.
Lots of people have complained about Brock/Venom being scrawny. Yeah, I can see the beef. I can also see why they cast Topher Grace as Brock. They changed the character to turn him into the mirror image of Peter. He looks like Peter, acts like him, and in the end becomes his dark mirror. It’s a thematic thing. At least it shows they put some thought into the reasoning behind their choice.
Besides the terrible physical representation of Venom, I was aggravated by the fact that they had Venom refer to himself with “I am,” as opposed to “We are.”
They never even mentioned what Venom’s name was in the entire movie. They could have very simply added in a sequence where he says “We are Venom.” Kind of like how Venom says it in Marvel Vs. Capcom 1&2. . .
All of that aside, his death was unexpected but, come to find out he does die by lightning in the Ultimate Spider-Man comic book series.
If they were to cast a BBer for Venom, acting skills aside, who would be best? I know Venom is like 6’3" 260lbs. so that would be a tough match.

I thought it was an okay movie. At the end when ‘Spidey’ comes swinging in and the American Flag can be seen proudly in the background dropped it back several notches for me. The collective groan in the theatre made me think others felt the same.
On Venom, as one guy said before, they’ve got a little over 2 hours to build a character and that has been developed over years in the comic books. I think that’s why series like Smallville are popular with many comic book readers as they can take their time developing the character and creating the story.
Introducing Venom and having him in the movie for about 5 scenes total was never going to do justice after seeing all the threads and fuss devoted to him on this site alone.

I felt that for a second but let it slide for one reason…the first one was released right after 9/11 (they had to cut out scenes shot with the Twin Towers in it). Back then, when the flag was waving in one scene for Spiderman 1, it had a completely different effect for me. I don’t fault them for keeping at least one scene like that in every movie since.
symbiot spidey was definately the man, except for the emo haircut.
something just bothers me in general about two of the lead roles in a comic book/cartoon-based movie that i grew up loving being named “Topher” and “Tobey.”
maybe that’s just me though. I still thought the movie kicked ass, even though there were a few small things that happened in very important scenes that totally killed the mood, i.e.: the American flag thing I just burst out laughing at that one), when peter shows up on the balcony of harry’s mansion and he’s just standing there with his queermo haircut and emo track jacket, etc.
