Spider Curls?

I just saw a picture of this, it looked pretty interseting. I rarely have seen this exercise mentioned (or maybe i just didnt look)… is it considered to be an
effective excercise in developing the bicep?

It is just a variation on the angle of the stabalizing surface for the preacher curl.

Done correctly it places the maximum load on a different portion of the curling range. Try it for variety in place of some other curling motion from time to time.

Nothing beats good old barbell or dumbell curls (seated, standing, incline, preacher, spider, etc.). Of course, you can always build muscle mass with compound movements (pull ups, rows, etc.). No particular need to do direct isolation movements.

Larry Scott did them as did other old school bodybuilders. Vince Gironda had a spider bench in his gym, Scott sells one now on his website.

Just take a normal preacher bench and flip the pad around; if it’s one without an attached seat you don’t even have to do that. No reason to buy a separate piece of equipment.

Just like cap’n said, you can usually modify a regular preacher bench to perform this exercise. People will usually look at me funny and think I am doing preachers wrong but I defiantly like to work this exercise in maybe every other time I do biceps. It will work your biceps differently from regular preachers and will usually require a little less weight too.
