like the majority of people on this thread you HAVE missed the boat. no real thought about what is effective when training. true to form most cough up some crap they heard in a gym somewhere and never actually thought about.
also, sarcasm is more often than not the tool of the unintelligent

Apparantly, so is spelling.

Hahaha. Apparently you got yourself good.
that was a good one…man got myself…haha
but regardless the point is true. people need to think and stop repeating what they hear. wouldn’t you agree?

I agree people over-analyze. I also agree that most people should keep their yaps shut because more often than not the ones that speak up do not know their ass from their elbow when it comes to lifting.
Most people would probably think that my form on some exercises is less than stellar, but over the years I have found what works and what does not for me, so I really do not care what most think.
To be honest, I saw nothing wrong with his squat, his training is sport specific, mine is not. I personally would rotate heavier squats with that range of motion with lighter full squats, but our goals are completely different.

you are right. you gotta do what works for you and not try to be like everyone you see in mags.
good post man
wow… when i read that title i thought i as actually going to see a horrible squat.
The form nazis are getting pretty out of control on this board. While not perfect, that was far from horrible.

This is a horrible squat in a college weightroom.
Instead of “ridiculous squat” I am renaming this “ridiculous post”.
I thought I was going to see some horror show of a squat, instead I see some young guy move 600lbs further than most at any gym. Wow, get a life.
Tuggles-
I’m sure you know that there are many ways to squat. You can change the bar-placement, squat-depth and stance-width for various purposes. Many collegiate strength coaches advocate a medium stance, not-quite parallel squat because they believe it has direct carryover to the sport. He didn’t round his back, he didn’t display an excessive forward lean and his knees didn’t come forward much. In my opinion, it was a decent raw squat (unless he was supposed to go to parallel), especially considering that he was approaching his 1-rep max.
I am speechless that some Internet warrior would earnestly criticize that guy. Everyone’s balls seem to grow to twice their normal size on the Intrenet. He is a college football walk-on at a very good college and is stronger than 99.9% of the population. The original poster and others who criticized him would probably snap in half under that weight and drown in the academic requirements of the universtity.
Ah come on, this forum is anti- quarter squat, and the all of a sudden everyone jumps on tugless for criticizing a quarter squat. I don’t think he claimed he wasn’t strong.
I believe this was posted because a 6hundred something squat was claimed, and it was clearly high. I give credit, because it’s a lot of weight, which I certainly wouldn’t be able to use, but call the fricken thing a 6hundred QUARTER squat, not a normal squat (which in my eyes is parallel or even better below).
What fucking planet are you from? A quarter squat? An inch or two above parallel is hardly a quarter squat. This fucking forum…
I kind of agree with the counter-critics. If I didn’t compete in powerlifting and didn’t train in some gear, I would probably cut most of my squats a little high. Before I got into powerlifing, I got a lot more out of heavy squats cut a couple inches high and than I ever got out of squatting 315 all the way.
Hitting depth is hard for tall men and I’m not sure if leaving 100-150 lbs off your back is justified my the extra 3 or 4 inches of travel.
Definaetly not a quarter squat man, Get your eyes checked.
