I take it the same way I take creatine…just put a scoop in your mouth, take a swig of milk and swish it around. Down the pipe. Havent been taking it long enough to notice benefits yet…only 3 days.
not to put him on the spot or anything, but I wonder if CT could weigh in here - I’m on a very low/no carb lifestyle and I’ve been following a recommendation he’s made in a few places to use leucine to spike insulin after a workout without the use of carbs.
For one thing, the position articulated here seems to say something quite different - that leucine doesn’t raise insulin (or not much at all), and that its anabolic effect comes by way of some other pathway. If leucine is as insulinogenic as some (like CT) think, wouldn’t that explain its positive effect on the anabolic level of a meal? (and perhaps not be so great for those of us who don’t want our insulin spiked repeatedly throughout the day?)
Is it a waste to add a scoop to Surge?
So it seems to be that I’m one of those who is very sensitive to the bitter taste of this stuff: I put it on my spinach, ground turkey, omega 3 egg scramble and cover it with salsa and I still can barely gag it down. It seems that it is much easier to swallow when used with a sweeter food (like my cottage cheese, sugar free jelly, chopped almonds, cinnamon, flax, Metabolic Drive mash).
I think the best way for it to be taken otherwise may be powder in the mouth and a few big swallows of water. I started a strict diet in conjunction with the arrival of my product and I’ve lost ~7 pounds in a week with little noticed muscle loss despite being unable to lift (separated shoulder).
So my thoughts: it may work, it may not, but it is cheap enough that I’ll choke down my two bottles and see what happens.

Have you tried something sour? Like citrus fruits?
I haven’t tried citrus fruits, truth be told I probably don’t eat enough of them. I’ve mostly just been trying to fit it into my normal diet. Perhaps I’ll switch my morning apple/pear to an orange and sprinkle it on that and see what happens.

Let me know how it worked.
Taking it on a teaspoon and swirling it down with a glass of water just became my favorite. Many thanks to whoever suggested that.
Do those of you who have purchased this product generally consume less than 3-5g of leucine per meal?
I am interested in adding leucine to my meals, but wonder if I would gain anything. I currently get 3-5g of leucine with each meal (whey, chicken breast, beef, eggs) and so am unsure as to whether adding a further 3-5g would be of much benefit.
My apologies if I missed the response, in this thread, to such a concern.

May have added value. May not. Even TC said earlier on this thread, it’s questionable if there are added benefits along with two scoops of Metabolic Drive. But that he often only uses 1 with just 20g of protein. Certainly seems, there’s more value for lower protein meals.

Thanks for the reply. It probably wouldn’t be of much benefit for me then. Maybe on a cut, when calories are restricted, it would be of greater use.

As with most supps, aside from the staples, I reckon.

Some people find BCAAs tasteless, but to me they taste terrible. Is this the case with leucine as well?
Some people don’t think Leucine tastes like anything, others detect a slightly bitter taste.

First few times of doing Leucine I didn’t detect any bitter taste. Third or forth time of trying it I started realizing how bitter it really was … (and that was before I went on reading this particular message board.)
There must be a reason why I “grew bitter over it”, overtime … won’t stop me from experimenting with this stuff, though.
Hello,
I find it no taste at all, I either swallow it with a little water (no need for some, it doesn’t mix at all), or I sprinkle it over my oatmeal.
I find powder BCAA a lot more bitter. However, that can be just me.
Regards,
Guillaume.
Thanks, guillaume76!
From now on I’ll try to mix my Leucine powder with merely little (instead of one-half of a glass of) water or juice and see if it helps. Also, is there any reason why I should or shouldn’t add my Leucine powder to my Surge post workout drinks? (If this question is already being answered within this message board … ignore me)
I’ve also tried to edit my original message once (of above) but the system didn’t allow me … basically I wanted to clear up that what I experienced was only a slight-bitter taste; not “intenstly bitter” the way I made it sounded to be.

I believe Surge has 4g Leucine already so it wouldn’t help much. Can’t hurt of course but there are better uses if you can only use it with 4 meals a day.
I workout in the mourning mean i wake up eat, then go to the gym.
Would it be ok to add a scoop to my breakfast AND post workout shake? Or am i not leaving enough time inbetween seeing as how i need to spike my levels… Its usually 1.5-2 hours between my shake and breakfast.

Both of these feedings should work well, although as someone already noted you don’t need to add L-Leucine to Surge Recovery as it already contains a healthy dose.
I bought this stuff. It does taste bitter but it’s not like it is hard to get down by any means. It doesn’t mix in liquids worth a damn so I have been sprinkling it over selected meals.
I can’t believe people are actually sprinkling it on food.
It is so much easier to just put it in your mouth and wash it down with water.
Man up, people!
I’ve been eating pretty protein rich warm meals for lunch lately… like stews or curries. These foods are naturally very flavorful/strong due to the herbs and/or spices used.
Hopefully, this stuffs supposed bitter taste will be masked by a strong/rich tasting beef stew over brown rice and green beans… I hope.
