Soy Protein Shouldn't Be Shunned

Just look at the labels of various food products in the grocery and you’ll quickly realize what a complete glut of soy there is. The soybean farmers produce so much of that crap that they’re looking for anywhere to put it. The new rash of “high protein” breakfast cereals? All from soy. And I defy anyone to find a salad dressing that doesn’t have soybean oil in it. Do they even use canola anymore? Soy has pretty much infected everything. It’s damn near impossible to stay away from. Unfortunately.

This is my first post here. This may not be a good intro for myself, but w/e.

Daven, what you said is so stereotypical. You didn’t cite any sources. And being compassionate does not make you a freak.

Daven, I’m pretty sure that this thread is about soy products and the misinformation that surrounds them, not about bashing vegetarians.

Can’t it be both?

Anybody else eat Kashi Golean? Realize that soy is a major ingredient in it. Just checked after reading this thread. Kashi, rice, and oatmeal have been my major grain sources. Now, I might have to rethink the kashi…

This paper is quite interesting.

Lowered DHT and no effect on free test…

raised total test at mid point, no change at end point

hmmm

Soybean oil–much like soy sauce–is fine. It’s soy protein that you want to stay away from.

As far as the Kashi goes. Yup Never Bought that stuff due to the soy content. I do however eat the Puffed Kashi from time to time it is Seven grain and no soy.

As others I simply keep the soy to a minimum and no isolte. But if I go eat chinese or something I will have a lil tofu or what not. Just dont live off the stuff.

Hope that helps

Hmm… Well it can’t be the devil as I’m gaining mass and feeling great. Still, now that I know, I’ll ditch the kashi.

I intended for my previous post to be taken humorously. Due to the tongue-in-cheek content contained therin, I did not expect anyone to take it seriously. I apologize for upsetting whomever thought that I trolling.

I’m not vegetarian or vegan. But I can easily see how it is possible to live a vegetarian lifestyle and still work in the strength world. I mean, check Mike Mahler. 100% vegan and still a very strong guy.

And as for the whole “Cindy Crawford, Jessica Simpson and Angelina Jolie eat meat”, Pamela Anderson is vegetarian. And (though certainly not my favorite), she certainly ain’t ugly.

You can’t POSSIBLY tell me that Pam Anderson doesn’t eat meat. I’ve seen her video with Tommy Lee…

While i generally avoid soy proteins in large amounts, ie: protein shakes. I dont have a problem with a little soy products in my food. Even as a little padding, provided, its only a little, combined with other proteins. common, soy sauce rocks.

I also eat at a japanese restaurant where they will give you a tiny plate with whole soy beans on them, that you dip into a great sauce and eat. Its not BAD for you in these ways, just not good for you if it becomes a large connerstone of your diet.

Its the people recommending specifically adding it to your foods looking for large effects that are going to have a problem. Not the guy who accidently gets 15-20g over the course of a week.

Come on, the minimal amount of soy protein in Kashi Go Lean is not going to have any adverse effect on your gains. I’ve generally heard 25g as the maximum amount of soy protein one should ingest per day. Not that I recommend one try and purposefully ingest soy, I’m just saying the tangential consumption of it won’t hurt you. That’s my two cents.

I try to minimize everything containing soy in my diet. I threw away my multi-vitamin becuase it contains soy products. I have trouble buying vitamin E becuase a lot of vitamin E pills have soybean oil. I do eat microwave burritos on occasion, and they do contain some soy protein, but I only eat them if I am incredibly hungry.

I beleive soy is bad in all forms and should be avoided. I also have found that the wood in the forest is harder, and grows faster if I eat more whole foods and less processed foods, regardless of soy.

Soy should be shunned, just like 10 month old threads that people dig up.

Soy is evil. I like tofu every now and then (less than once a month) from the occasional chinese restaraunts.

I don’t think I am able to post the site, but it is a bodybuilding site, which is where I used to go all the time till I found this site. T-Nation blows it away with great articles and much, much better forums.

I was bored today and looked over there and saw a protien bar article, funny how Grow! is not mentioned and they say soy has good properties. [/quote]

And guess who benefits from promoting soy? That’s right, the supplement companies that rely on soy protein concentrate, the cheapest, crappiest, least digestible protein source, as the main ingredient in their shitty bars and powders.

This from a girl who was vegan for years…

But tempeh rocks.

Everytime a man drinks a soy protein shake, an angel loses its wings.
