Source of Carbohydrates

Hello guys,

I was wondering, you know , when theres a talk about carbing up/ carb loading and so on, does it matter where the carbs come from ? ( as in, whether its from vegetables or grain based food like rice, pastas etc…) I’ll give you my case study as an example. I was at 120 kg quite a bit of muscle, but good deal of fat aswell, so decided to try and lose some fat.

been training for a bout 6 years, mostly according to powerlifting template. For the first few weeks ate nothing but chicken and protein shakes, some fruit. After a few weeks introduced vegetables, currently I’m eating around a kilo or more veggies a day. Everything’s going ok, and i slimed down and currently at 107 kg. Im pretty comfortable with my current state,

so feel like experimenting a bit. few days ago I got an idea about trying to carb up and just see how I feel/ look , so thought about introducing rice as a source of carbs, but then it hit me, that vegetables have carbs aswell ( duh, obviously  ) so I’m thinking now, if I consume at least a kg of veggies a day, that’s about 100 g of carbs allready. So my question goes like this: Is getting carbs from vegetables the same as getting carbs from grain food ? You know how they say a calorie is a calorie, well, can the same be applied in this case? A carb is a carb ( obviously I’m not talking about carbs from junk food ).

Sorry for the long post guys and thanks in advance for any input…

Carbs with a low GI are very different from the carbs with high GI. For example If you eat strawberries (low GI) it wont spike your insulin because the carb would take longer to digest then a potato would for example. If you eat a potato (high GI) it spikes your insulin. When your insulin is high it makes it a great environment for glucose to be stored in your body as fat. The only time you can eat carbs with a high GI are in the morning or post-workout to replenish your glycogen. I get in about 35 grams of sugar post workout. So you can do about 10-30 grams

O and if you are going to take in the carbs post workout dont forget to take in a good amount of protein to rebuild the muscle.

Just my 2 cents, but I’ve been having a lot more success with carbs after experimenting and finding the one’s that ‘agree’ with me. I just avoid carbs that bloat me, make me groggy, all that jazz.

Ohh and I don’t even count the carbs and calories from veggies. They are almost negligible most the time IMO.

Everyone has a different hormonal reaction to glucose; however, do not treat vegetables as a source of glucose especially if they have a lot of undigestible fiber - the sugar contained in them will most likely be eaten by gut flora and turned into fatty acids.

Fiber is actually a source of dietary fat.

Appreciate that man, you’re looking quite lean yourself.

Yup, still backloading, just seems to work for me way better then other strategies. Very happy with the results.
