Song Covers

that killswitch covers great, videos even sillier than dio’s
I heard that the video was a rip at dio due to the fact that he charged them so much to cover the song, so the video is based nearly exactly on his but mor stupid to take the piss…

Someone already mentioned “Jolene” by The White Stripes…check this live version out…talk about emotion:

They have also covered Dylan’s “One More Cup of Coffee”

I am also a fan of Sonic Youth’s cover of “Superstar”

And for the Blues fans…Eric Clapton and Doyle Bramhall covering “Terraplane Blues”

“With a Little Help From My Friends” Joe Cocker

“Proud Mary” Tina Turner

Some other covers just for kicks:

“Hotel California” Gipsy Kings

“Boyz in the Hood” Dynamite Hack

“Baby One More Time” Travis

“Iron Man” The Cardigans

“Wonderwall” Ryan Adams

“What a Wonderful World” Joey Ramone

“Burning Down the House” Tom Jones

“California Dreamin’” Queen Latifah

It is great, but I like his cover of “I see a darkness” (Wil Oldham) even better: - YouTube
Hey Hoffa…good to see another fan of Wil Oldham AKA Bonnie Prince Billy. I see A Darkness is my favorite song by Oldham, it was actually hard to hear Johnny remake it, I’m too attached to the original.

I don’t know if anybody has heard of Bonnie Prince Billy, I adore him, but he won’t be everybody’s cup of tea. By far. He remade a Bill Withers song…

The Same Love That Made Me Laugh - Bonnie Prince Billy (original Bill Withers)

Its gut wrenchingly…bad to some…good to me.

Edits in…umm…I seem to be going crazy in your great thread October Girl …I’ll stop…for now Lol
Hi Molotov, yes, Oldham is great. You have to be in the mood for it though, it’s quite haunting. To be honest, it was Cash’ cover of I see a darkness that made me seek out the original and discover Oldham. The original is even more sombre, though I’ll always prefer Cash’ voice.

How about “Bring it on Home” and “When the Levee Breaks” by Zep?

Those are really old blues covers.

I’m a sucker for a cover song. Some others that haven’t been mentioned…

Imagine by A Perfect Circle (originally by John Lennon)

Faith by Limp Bizkit (originally by George Michael)

This one’s mandatory on any workout playlist. Just killer.

Cat’s in the Cradle by Ugly Kid Joe (originally by, um, that guy who did it first.)

I’ll also enjoy just about anything that Richard Cheese has done.

Oh, I once accidentally typed “ya” into my browser instead of “yahoo”. I got sent to an awesome cover of Outkast’s “Hey Ya”.

Oh this is great! I love the “Hey Ya” cover.

the classic stuff being covered is great too.

I like the Alien Ant Farm cover of Smooth Criminal, too.

Some others I like -

Korn’s cover of “Word Up”, originally done by Cameo

Disturbed’s cover of “Land of Confusion”, originally done by Genesis

Rob Zombie’s “Brickhouse”, originally done by The Commodores
JANA!

I am in love with the Korn version of Word UP!

here is a link to the Rob Zombie cover of “Brickhouse” and he’s singing it with Lionel Ritchie.

Very cool

Ottis Redding and CCR respectively if my memory is still going strong.

I am not a George Michaels fan but I am a Sting and the Police fan

here is GM’s cover of “Roxanne” and the guys should like it, lots of girls in underwear

this will be a lot of Sting / Police links… I am a serious fan

Tori Amos covering “Wrapped Around your Finger”

(the lyrics to this song are so compelling)

John Mayer “Message in a Bottle”

Alanis Morrisette “King of Pain”

(not crazy about this one)

Machinehead “Message in a bottle”

(sounds freaky!)

I don’t know if it’s technically a cover if the original band is involved, but I recall the Aerosmith/Run DMC version of “Walk This Way” very fondly from junior high:

A list of great cover songs:
