Why I feel sleepy sometimes around half an hour from eating some foods like bananas. It is hard to keep focus.
I eat oatmeal in morning and is ok. But some carbs make me sleepy.
I use a combination of rainsins + cashews on the evening (2 hours before hiting the gym), and that gives me an extra stamina. But raisins alone, give me the same dizzienes than bananas. any ideas.

Here’s a tip, if your doctor says something in your dietary/exercise lifestyle is “not acceptable” that means you should do more of it
doctors/nutritionists/dieticians are still living in the 1970’s[/quote]
I completly agree, some time ago, I was diagnosed with High blood pressure and my doctor said to avoid any fats. i read a lot about and discovered that fats and cholesterol is essential bulding block of joints, etc. that is stupid.
some changes on my diet and excercise brougth my BP down. He prescribed me a drug which develops a cough and gyno among many sides. I hate him.
You’re probably not very carb tolerant. I agree with the fact that you should stay away from higher insuligenic carbs, as they will make you crash and burn and store fat (among other things).
Screw the doc doling out nutrition advice. I have a great amount of respect for thier medical knowledge and have a great appreciation for their surgical abilities. But they generally don’t have a clue about nutrition.
Bananas contain tryptophan, which is a precursor to serotonin and thus melatonin.
Serotonin - a calming neurotransmitter when present in moderate levels
Melatonin - a sleep-inducing hormone secreted by the pineal gland in response to darkness or low light levels
Because of these properties, tryptophan is sometimes used as a sleeping aid. However, I do not think that a single banana would have that much of an effect on you. Perhaps you do not respond well to carbohydrates.

I completely agree…
I eat several pounds of steak a week. The main carb source for me is veggies. I have a piece of bread in the morning or a small bowl of grits and my surge para and post workout. Carbs and my body do not get along well.
As for doctors, they tell me to static stretch before exercise, eat lots of grains, no red meat, no dairy…
Do you think I am carb intolerant? Potatoes does not make me sleepy. neither pasta. Any sugar does. Soda also. I have a rush and past 1/2 hour I go down and feel like sh!t.

The best thing to do is just experiment and see what makes you feel sluggish. Every one is different and a lot of people really eat too many carbs any way. When you narrow down which carbs make you feel like crap you can stay away from them.
