Soldiers Teasing Kids
AdamC wrote:
I dont think sending them home for teasing (all be it in a rather cruel manner) kids is a very sensible option. I would imagine they need all the troops they can get.

BH6 made a vert sensible post…but the guys on here trying to outright defend the soliders actions and put a positive spin on it are being ridiculous IMO. What they did was perhaps understandable but wrong full stop.
I never said send them home. They should get a stern slap on the wrist. They are representing our country. Those are kids. If they did this to adults I wouldnt be as vexed but they were kids and they were teasing them. I’m sure some of these people would defend soldiers dangling food infront of some starving somalian children.

PGA- Not to fight with you but there are a lot of things about the military you could never understand unless you served. As some have mentioned; A lot of our service members are kids right out of high school, most likely chose the military for a better life, or because they couldn?t afford nor had interest in going to college.

Its not that they are fucked up, but many have no real life experience as well as are being asked to do something they were never trained nor know how to do. In my MOS I wasn?t trained how to rebuild a country that is based on hate. I want trained how to tell if that dead animal in the road is really an IED. Even as a NCO, I can not watch these kids every second, my main purpose is to keep my team tight, and alive, and try to set the best example I can.

Also with the country being so desperate for troops and not wanting to have a draft, there has been a MAJOR lack of quality in standards with our military personnel in the past few years. So, its wrong for what they are doing, but you could never understand what these troops are going through.
I will never know what they are going through but I have and always had a moral standards. They were children and these punks were fucking with them. Like its not fucking hard enough that the kids have to witness mass murders on a daily basis? These idiots had to tease them with bottled water when they probably dont have any clean drinking water to begin with?

Shit like this happens, has happened, will continue to happen. It isn’t as inexcusable in the manner that many are writing it off as, but it isn’t as bad as the other side is making it out to be. This, and similar events, are the nature of the beast. Bored soldiers in the middle of an occupation do stupid shit. You wouldn’t believe some of the dumb shit we do.

I agree with BH6’s assessment…and PGA’s to a degree. It is very hard to be on top of troops all the time…one thing that is very different about the Iraq War is the technological advances in the internet and media technologies that have allowed stuff like this to be distributed broadly to the public and beyond.

Yeah, that’s great teasing and making fun of a bunch of starving third world kids…

Some people don’t understand that we are not talking about some well-nourished european or american children living in a relatively safe and peaceful environment, but about kids who are war victims.
If you think teasing starving or almost starving children living in a war-torn country is funny I guess you are seriously morally fucked up…

who really gives a shit about this vid. I could care less.

If I had it my way that fucking place would be turned into glass. Muslims know nothing but hate, vengence, and murder. Islam is a religion of peace? Give me a fucking break. The only good thing going on right now in Iraq is they are killing each other now. Maybe they will do us a favor and just kill themselves in one mass suicide bomb.

If we where serious about winning this war we would withdraw all of our troops and drop a big fucking A bomb right on them and call it game, set, match. This shit where we have to play by there rules is bull-shit. Whats the point on having all of these expensive weapons if we are not going to use them.

Pot, please meet kettle. Anyone claiming that they want a place to be destroyed isn’t exactly pro-peace either. You’re a hypocrite.

And I’m very pro soldier, and pro U.S. military, but I’m also anti war, and that video was bullshit. You don’t tease kids, in any country. It’s wrong. If you need a drill sargeant to tell you that, perhaps you don’t belong in the fucking military to begin with, because you’re a dickhead.

And that’s the sad thing about these wars, is that for every soldier like the one posted last week comforting the child, there’s an idiot doing something like this. And guess what they’re going to remember?

The sad truth is that this war may not be won with or by this generation, but by the next. If we want to leave a world behind where our kids don’t have to worry about nuclear attacks, then we are setting that two steps back every time shit like this happens. Maybe if these children were treated nicely by ALL of our soldiers they wouldn’t grow up to hate the U.S. quite as much as their parents do.

who said I was pro-peace when it comes to the middle east? If you send a country to war, your sole job is to use any means necessary to win that war with the least amount casualities. Why would you not want to use your best weapons to win that war.

The problem I have is that politicians get us into wars and then hamstring our military to win those wars. If politicians believe that we HAVE to go to war because there is an immentent threat to our country, why not use a nuke and take care of business? I just don’t get it…honestly what is the point of all of our weopons if we are not going to use them.

I see that vid of our soliders getting sniped and I’m sick with emotion. Why would our leaders just let this shit happen when we have weapons that can end this today.

As for peace in the middle east…there will never be peace in the middle east. Unless mohommad himself comes down to earth to tell muslims there is no such thing as 1,000 virgins in heaven so please stop killing yourself over this shit.

By the way you know what would have been even more funny in that vid. If the humvee slammed on his brakes and the kid ran into the back of it the car. That would have been classic.

In the summer of 1971 Stanford university conducted a psychology experiment which attempted to answer the basic question: What happens to good people in an evil place?"

I wouldnt think there would so many man-ginas on a site called “testostorone-nation”.

I laughed my ass off after that video.

but i do think think iraq might have the next michael johnson.

We used to fire-bomb entire cities with white phosphorus, and kill thousands of civilians without batting an eyelash. Now we are worried about making some kids run. Western society has become pussified while Islamic society has remained hard and cruel. When you look at the history of warfare and see how conquering nations used to treat the conquered, this video of Americans giving some Iraqi kids bottled water is generous beyond comparison. Read about the Japanese “Rape of Nanking” and tell me we are being cruel. Read about the history of the Eastern European power struggles. Some of you people need to get out of your comfy little air-conditioned houses and see how the world really works. The Islamic “insurgents” use American sensitivity against us every day. Read “Blackhawk Down” (the book, not the movie) and tell me how you feel about innocent civilians in Muslim warfare.

Arent we supposed to be a better society and not reduce ourselves?

Just become other countries did nasty shit doesnt mean we should either. If that was the case we wouldnt be “better” than them.

Good post. Let’s keep some perspective.

Good post? Are you kidding? Explain how that is in perspective.

A man beats his dog, but you say, well I’ve seen a man beat his wife and that’s much worse.

This thread has nothing to do with the “History of Warfare” It has to do with teasing a bunch of kids. It would have been a shitty thing to do even if it wasn’t soldiers.

No one was being beaten. Poor analogy.

Of course what happens in war has something to do with it.

Normal rules of civilization do not apply in a war zone.

These guys acted like dicks. They were stupid for filming it and letting it out of their control. People act like dicks every day. Big deal.

Do you personally know any muslims?

Just because there are a lot of wack job muslims you dont nuke a whole fucking country. There are a lot of good muslims in the world just like there are a lot of good christians, atheists and whatever.

And to be fair, it’s very debatable as to whether you should have even invaded.

I don’t understand the big deal with this, it’s certainly not appropriate for a soldier and a commanding officer should tell them to knock it the fuck off. But in my book it’s quite a few steps above killing children and/or putting AK’s in their hands and sending them into battle.

There’s a lot more disgusting things to be outraged about, people. That is, if you’re the type of person that likes to get outraged about things and thinks that the world is normally one big, happy place.

We are a better society. That’s the problem. Most Americans are clueless about history and foreign culture. They seem to think we are the cruel ones. The Japanese when they invaded China in the 30’s were sadistic beyond belief (using live prisoners for bayonette practice, slitting open pregnant women and betting on the sex of the unborn child then boiling the child alive, just a small sample). Muslims are sawing off heads and chanting Allah Akbar, but we are the dicks. You people need a new perspective.

We are so used to our soft, safe, non-threatening Western existance that anything vaguely outside the lines is seen as cruel. Normal rules of conduct change during war. Anyone remember about a year ago some Army guys were handing out candy to Iraqi kids when a suicide bomber drove up and killed everyone including a whole bunch of the kids? Yes, we are the dicks. Give me a break. So many people say they support the troops, but then show more concern for the welfare of the enemy.

I dont need a perspective. You need to realize just because other societies are barbarians we shouldnt act the same. THATS what separates them from us. What you’re saying is we should have a free for all on everyone thats against us. Hmmm…isnt that the same shit we’re fighting agaisnt?

“YOU”??? I believe England had a small part in this as well.
