At least you will have a great Valentine’s Day present. Nothing is more important than family.
Yeah it’s a clusterfuck, but it’s the US Military…you can’t act shocked about it ![]()
He’ll be home soon, MiM, just keep that in mind and you’ll be alright!
Unfortunately that’s the downside to the military, in essence he’s govt property – that’s what ultimately deterred me from joining. Like Tim said, you’ll have a great Valentine’s – stay strong!
Thanks fellas!
You guys gonna have your own valentine this year? ![]()
We never really celebrated it actually. It’s one of those things where I tell him not to get me anything and I know he did, so I have to get him something.
6 more years…after he re-ups this October, he’ll have 6 more yrs left to retire…hopefully somewhere warm where we can hang out for awhile. Our son will be going into High school! There’s a scary thought.
So life continues on. And FYI, I’ve been going to the gym like usual. Been sore sore sore!
Gotta go back there this evening to start training my peeps again. I asked someone else to take over, but I’d have to pay them back the difference.(it’s always about the money grumble)
Besides, I have time and I feel like I would just be wussing out.
So I might be buying some weight stuff. Not sure yet. He wants to sell it all for $150…
over 350# of weights, a weight bench that adjusts and I think you can bench on it. Also, a decline bench and a pull up thing. The weights are old and you can tell the bars are too. But with a little cleaning up, maybe?
we can use the gym to supplement whatever a couple times a week.
Bargain! Snatch it up MiM!
Bargain indeed! Those look to be in better shape than the weights I bought and cleaned up and they are doing me just fine!
ya, I think I’ll do it.
it would take forever to save up for otherwise if we bought new stuff.
just back from the gym…it wasn’t bad…
Hoping to make it to the gym in the morning to train myself. Snowmageddon is on the way…
That’s pretty cheap. If you can swing it, do it! You can always sell them again for close to what you paid if it doesn’t work out.
350 lbs is alot, Bettie.
good move.
my $.02
Thanks kids…
I’m gonna go claim the stuff this weekend or next!
On the training front, I’m switching back to 3 training sessions/week…I’m thinking:
Upper
Lower
Total
I’ve been having a hard time committing to 4 days + recovering from the volume on the leggy’s. Maybe I can switch things up when I get our weights! I figure this is my ‘get ready for swim suit season,’ and between August-Feb it can be my ‘building/strength season.’ ![]()
I want to work on more cardio since I suck at it. You gotta do what you hate! Just remind me not to jog, run or jump…I really fear I’ll need surgery to get all the loose cartilage out
I jogged for 1 minute feeling froggy and all and now I’m paying for it 8 hours later :irked:
And I really want pancakes. After ‘church,’ on Sunday I think we’ll hit up Ihop so Mommy can have a free meal! ![]()
I say ‘church,’ because I found a UU group…not related to training, but I’ve felt the need to grow more in that area, plus my son has been asking all kinds of funky questions lately. I was really pleased…our first time going was last Sunday…my son is funny cause he’s like ‘But Mom, we’re not churchy!’
No, but it’s good to explore and make up your own mind.
We looked after my friends little one for just about 2 hours. She was strapped with no back up sitter, so she called upon me…glad to help! But I forgot how busy 2 yr olds can be!!! sheesh…and Julia was beyond jealous… And now she’s saying she wants a little sister…hmph!
Now I’m thinking of getting certified as a daycare provider…if you go full time, you can actually make some serious dough!
But I don’t want to be confined to my house all day…part time may be ok or before/after school…Im home anyway why not make a little extra cash?
Just did 8 min of rowing…go me! And a bw thing…I’ll throw in another 8 min later…cardio gives me energy(scary!)
Hey mama! You sound busy, busy. I love how you’re always like “I was thinking of…” HAHAH! You kill me.
Good job keeping up with the training. I hope its helping you stay centered.
And I totally feel ya on the churchy stuff - i’m the same way, altho not chuchy myself (so cute btw!!). But I’ve def visited a UU place, there’s actually a very old one in my neighborhood from the 1830s - its beautiful and a nice place to ‘think’ or not think at all.
The new equipment looks awesome! and like kimba said, if you can swing it go for it! Just think of all the complexes you can do while the kiddies are sleepin’
Glad things are going well!
Does your gym have one of these:
I find it to be a good no impact running / sprinting alternative (once you get the hang of it you can just lightly use one hand on the handle for a more natural running-like motion, upright posture, and posterior chain involvement).
On the pancake theme, after shoveling snow yesterday I made blueberry waffles with real maple syrup and ate it all. Yum.
Those look NEAT Alexus!
But no, we don’t have them…closest thing is the elliptical? Even those hurt my knees…unnatural tracking or something…I don’t know. I think the treadmill is hurting my knees too! ![]()
(yes, I know I think too much Maschy, ha!)
Kimba- mmmmm, pancakes  thanks for reminding me…that craving sorta passed when I binged on some egg noodles. Well, not really binged, but made the choice to have some instead of ‘sneaking it,’ and feeling bad about it…so yummy when your starving! I had waited too long to eat into the evening and couldn’t pass it up.
Wow, that was long, lol…
Training has been going well. I like the new direction …higher reps, etc…and a magical thing is happening…I can FEEL the muscles working AKA- the burn?? I’ve been cranking it beyond that 10 rep limit for some moves and that seems to be my sweet spot…granted I’m not using quite as much weight…
Im sore, but my joints aren’t aching and I can get outta bed without feeling crippled…only problem is my knees have been hurting more lately…can’t tell if it’s the weights or the extra cardio…I want to believe it’s the treadmill?
Speaking of higher reps, DON’T LAUGH!! I stumbled upon our p90X Dvds while going through the spare room. MIL got it for us years back as a xmas gift.
Hubby wants to challenge me to it cause he started doing it with a group over in A-stan…I actually would, and of course, I wouldn’t want to turn down a challenge, buuut, I don’t want to completely give up the gym. hmmm…
I’ll probably go to squat/bench in place of plyometrics and DL/MP on ‘yoga,’ day.
I don’t freakin know…Im babbling.
Also, a funny thing happens when given free reign on what to eat. No full on refeed or huge-mungus free meal today…just whatever I feel like.
The only ‘bad,’ thing I’ve had so far was a handful of lucky charms( kids pick of junk cereal for the weekend)
Im having grilled fish, asparagus and some french fries for dinner…and Im making rice crispy treats for desert…mmmm.
A guy payed me a compliment and said I was looking leaner…as opposed to? Im probably back to where I started before the Debauchery of Thanksgiving- December began. Eats have been clean and will remain so for the next two weeks before the hubby gets home…eek!
Poor guy has been so deprived and has wayyy too much time to think. He’s made a LIST of foods he wants to eat while he’s home…I’m falling into that trap!
Mim, I’m glad to read that things are going well with your training. Sorry about the knees. I know you have some pre-existing arthritic changes, but you might also really want to work your mobility and IT bands. I was having knee pain at night and while driving–finally went to an ortho–xrays the whole bit–he said it was my IT band. I found that hard to believe, because I am pretty flexibile, but the stretches have made a big difference for me.
Re Hubby’s return: I’m sure, in addition to that list of foods he wants to eat, he has a list of things he’s planning to do to you. Deprived of you he has been.
you have a point Nadia(about the knees) I’ve seen a PT before and he diagnosed it as chrondo something something…basically the cartilage is pretty worn and loose, hence the crunchiness…and if I do any high impact stuff it causes the cartilage to swell thus causing pain.
FUUUUUUCK!
Hubby just wrote a quick message saying he heard from the XO himself that they will not allow him to go on regular leave AND Emergency leave. WHAT. THE. FUCK??? Not a good way to start his night.
He has to choose between coming home as scheduled next month or come home whenever Julia’s surgery will be…
fuckin fuckety fuck.
yum dinner sounded good. i’m a sucker for asparagus and fish… but now i’m thinking about pancakes, too… real maple syrup is so nice (but very much a treat in my part of the world).
the elliptical hurts my joints, too, because of the unnatural motion, i think. the AMT is as close as i’ll ever get to running. last time i quit smoking i was trying to run a 5k on it in under 30 minutes. was upset to discover that the distance meter on them isn’t reliable and varies from machine to machine, though. in a way i’m lucky our gym has them… when you see how much they cost i wish they put that kinda money into heavy weights, though (GHR, prowler, some nicer bars etc).
apparently one should be careful about anti-inflammatories for a whole bunch of reasons (most of which i can’t remember)… but i wonder if taking one of those before intensive cardio might help. as an occasional thing. this might be a bad idea, though.
