So It's Been A While

1-17-2013 Axle push press
worked up to 205x5 felt pretty easy

lat pulldowns

axle clean and strict press, clean every rep
125x5
145x5
175x5
265 clean only

1/17/13 Axle push press/axle clean and press
Few things for warm ups
175x3
200x3
225x8

Lat pull downs
Didn’t even keep count, just got some work in.

Clean and press
125 a few times
185 once or twice
225 once (competition weight)
265 missed clean
265 clean and press. Continental clean of course.

Single hand axle snatch
125-did it twice. On second snatch, brought it down and pressed it as a dumbbell.
This was just for fun, I was in a good mood lol.

Proud of all our guys. Nathan even came when he had other obligations. We all gave it hell. My back doesnt really like me today but, it’ll be okay lol. Hope everyone is doing well! We are only 4 weeks out from our first strongman competition. Getting excited!

We went to our old gym to train with their yoke.
Circus DB for reps in 60sec, 115lbs
I matched my best of 12

Yoke, 80’ for time
empty yoke for 40’
260 for 40’
350 for 40’
440 for 80’
530 for 80’
600 for 80’ in ~19.4 seconds

Shut it down on deads because I just discovered I have an umbilical hernia

Pretty happy with the yoke. It was awful but, I got my contest weight with, what I’m hoping is, a decent time. Still scared about this hernia.

1/22/13 Raw Olympic pause squats, straight bar, walked out
bar
145x8
235x6 belt and knee sleeves on
325x10
415x4 I think this is a PR. I think my previous best was when I tried Josh Bryant’s personal training and I believe that was 395x4 but, very ugly.

Went to the doctor and I do have an umbilical hernia. I’ve talked to many of my friends in the strength sports that have them (Jake Anderson of Westside Barbell, Mike Ruggiera formerly of Westside Barbell, Davey McCann NAS KY state chairman, and Kalle Beck a very competitive lightweight strongman) and I’m not too concerned. It’ll change my training a bit but, I’m not gonna back down now. Belt will be going on very early on all major lifts and events and ab work will be a staple. I appreciate my training partners always being there for me when I’m down or when I think I’m injured. I know I complain a lot but, it’s scary when you want to be the best you can be. I’m going to meet with a surgeon on February 4th to just discuss future options but, I doubt I’ll go through with the surgery until it gets worse.

Damn, sorry to hear about the hernia. Here’s hoping for a quick recovery. Looks like you are already beasting the competition weights, so at least you can afford to take it easy for a bit.

Thanks for the support, Scuba! It’ll be okay, I’m sure. I’m finally starting to relax about it a little lol. I’m just going to try to kill the ab work. After this competition I’ll worry more about it but, I think it’ll be fine. I’m definitely going to start throwing my belt on a little earlier for a while. I’m sure I speak for everyone in this thread when I say, we appreciate you checking it!

Thread’s as awesome as always! Keep it up!

Axle with bumpers/log medley, 60 seconds (after warming up)
225 axle/220 log(i misloaded…i thought it was 210)
I ended up getting 3 with the axle and 2 with the log

circle DB-115lbs
awful. did absolutely terrible.
idk how many reps, i dont even count them. I may have locked 2-3 out.

stones
awful.
185 for a couple loads
240 for 2 loads
275 for 1. gave up.

I’m happy with the medley but, that’s it. Circus DB was a joke. stones were even worse. Just gonna make excuses. Only reason stones sucked was because i had to wear a power belt becasue of this hernia. Woe is me. Now that I’m done bitching and complaining, I plan to find a way to get better. We are less than 3 weeks out.

From now on my log will just be the videos that I make, I will make comments about how I feel about training and try to keep up with any questions any of you guys have…as of now im pissed bc on the last event day I dislocated my right knee it wasnt too bad thankfully, but still its close to the contest and im concerned, got a lot going on right now mentally and physically, very VERY nervous about this first contest, prob not going to place as high as I’d hoped but gonna give it my best shot, I will be doing the Lightweight Novice class and we will try to get videos from the contest, hoping to baby this knee until the contest and try my best to give the competition hell!!! Need to really improve at my moving/carrying events…as well as stones…well…basically everything, Hope everyone’s doing well

1/29/13 Oly Paused squats
Warm up
500x2 2nd wasnt paused as long as i thought :frowning: PR
415x7 good pauses PR

Some abs at home. I was late, didn’t want to hold anyone up.

Back and hernia both felt fine so, good day. I’m very scared of the car squat after seeing a video of it lol. It has a pick height of 46" so, pretty much a bottom position squat. Oh well, I think it will be fine. One our friends is now going to be competing, Kyle Jones. He’s 204 but, he’s competing in my class and intimidates the hell out of me lol. Kyle is not only strong as hell, he is also a great athlete.
