So Injured, So Old: 600lb DL Before I Die

I need to post a workout soon before this spins out of control…

1.) Powerlifting
2.) Bikes
3.) Putin
4.) Disgustingly likable couples

It all falls under Alpha Male, thats how jamie over at Chaos & Pain qualify’s topic’s to dicuss, as long as they’re alpha topics, then your not destoying testosterone, by participating in metro sexual behaviour.

Plus when your dealing with the likes of justin trudeau, and Obama, and a country full of latte sippin biker’s, it makes me proud to be a man to see someone thriving on pure testical fortitude, even if he is Russian

So, about those times written in your workouts, are ya avoidin the question ?

I’m just gonna stop posting in my own log and hang out here from now on. This place is more fun

CRAP, I don’t know what that means. Why do you people do this to me???

Speaking of time…

I just took th time to train and am now taking the time to log it along with my times.

March 4, 2013

SQUAT type behavior:

My right knee is oatmeal after the deadlift workout last week. I have been dreading this workout figuring it would blow and then I’d have to start all over in 2 months or start a blog talking about non-testicular inspiring stuff.

However…

I’ll be damned.

Squat:

Warmups:

45 x 15
135 x 5
225 x 3
275 x 2
315 x 2

13 minutes, I’m going slow because I’m trying to find a walkout/walk in and a foot position which does not take my knee across the injury, did okay)

Top Sets: (speed reps and unrack bar 50 seconds after last rack)

350 x 8 sets x 2 reps (8 minutes 10 seconds)

Walkouts were difficult, stepping in was the worst, hit the rack like 6 times, but I stayed away from the injury, good sets)

Decided not to push my luck and quit the squatting there.

Speed deadlifts:

Moved my heels out about 1" each and turned my right foot in just a bit to keep the knee away from the injury.

335 x 20 singles (5 minutes, 20 seconds)

No pain in knee, good move. I’m happy enough. Would have liked more squatting work but I’d also like to be taller.

You have plenty of time for a growth spurt, awesome session.

That is too funny, thanks.

C’mon, Jake, I’m going nutz trying to figure this one out.

What do you mean??? Don’t leave me hanging like this!!!

AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Haha, so this means it took you 13 minutes, to do these 5 warm up sets, or does this mean your 13 minutes into your workout, or that your Viagra is going to kick in, in 13 minutes, or mabey your worried you only have 13 minutes left to live ! I just find it confusing that you ramdomly write down times through out your workout, with no real context, atleast for me, thats all I was asking

“Haha, so this means it took you 13 minutes, to do these 5 warm up sets”

Yes.

It refers to the time it took to do whatever series I just drew out.

I bet nobody knew what those meant…

That’s pretty funny actually…

It was actually pretty clear in the last workout you did, and by then I was starting to figure it out, but some of your first workouts earlier on in the log, it was a little confusing. What I really wanted to know, was the reasoning behind it, do you try to shave down this time, over the coarse of a year, or do you track it for future referance.

The main reason I originaly asked was because I’d never seen it before, and wondered what the reasoning was, but now it’s become this big thing, and once you started avoiding it, then I was sure you were hiding somthing, or mabey just old and forgetful :0

Oh by the way, I sold my jap project bike to my cousin, from niagra, he’s coming down to pick it up next week while I’m in Otawa, I broke totaly even, to the dime, for what it’s worth, but believe it or not, he’s planning to try and stuff the engine in a ski doo, haha, he might pull it off. The up side is whatever he dosen’t use I can have back for nuthin, so good deal all around, I get my money back, and gain some parts for a future project, win win, headache gone, now time to find sommthing I can actually work on !

I’ve always timed my sets. My greatest strength gains came when I either lifted more in the same time or lifted the same total weight in less time.

I think (mileage varies)that super long workouts with 30,000,000 exercises are silly and unecessary.

I see from your workouts that you feel the same way. Paisan!

I read some Rippetoe feedback and I saw people doing starting strength taking like 2 hours to do 3 movements, 3 sets of 5!!! That kind of workout should take about 30 minutes!

Anyway, part of me posting how long I took, or how long my rests were is to protest this “I live in the gym” attitude I see in a lot of these posts. Jock sniffers…

I want SOMEONE to see that you can do 8 minute deadlift series and still go on to pull a shit ton.

Some of these workouts I see here are the craziest, most complex things ever. Nubes using chains and bands and posting all these 3 letter acronyms that cause me to have to open a new tab to look up. I can see a guy powerlifting for 8 - 10 years, who is near the pinnacle of his game having to try things to nudge out his equally established competition, but a guy my size using bands to deadlift his 405 coupled with 5 minute rests?

Like money in the bank, well played. So you’ll get everything but the engine and throttle cable? That’s cool. You could piece out all that’s left and make more $$$$ or trade up. That was a great investment.

Gawd I wish I were in my 40’s again, I could kick myself for never doing a project bike.

My new Girl’s Bike is still at the dealer. We just broke temps in the teens yesterday, but snow Saturday. Delivery is free so I think I’m going to just call and have them truck it over.

you have a new girl, I hope you traded up, haha, it was probably all that talk about viagra a couple posts back that got ya all fired up !

[quote]AnytimeJake wrote:

Viagra costs more than a Sportster. So I’ve heard.

Oh a girls bike, I thought you ment, you bought your new girl, a bike

Anyway I’m envious, cause it’s still 40 below here, yesterday doing front squats, I burnt my neck where it was against the bar, the bar was so cold, it looks today like I have a scar, but I am on the hunt for a project, just not for this summer, I have 16mths left to get my license back, so just enought time to build somthin cool, fast, and dangerous !

as far as the timed workouts, i usually fall into about 40min, with a maximum of 4 exercises, but usually 2, I do like to super set to save time, so if I’m doing benches, I try and get some rows or chins in around them, and with squats and deads, it seems like agood time to pump up the armz

15 thousand to my lawyer’s office today, 10 to my crimminal lawyer, who’s handling my arson, in front of the supreme court, then across the hall to give his female partner 5, for handling my civil suit, against the cops, and my former landlord. Everythings intertwined, I sued the cops, and my former landlord, for an illegal iviction, where they seized my gym equipment for 3mths, the they charged me for adledgedly trying to burn down the building in question ( fuzy video, of a big bald guy throwing a molitov on the roof of said building) I hate parting with cash, and one of these days when I stop all this lawyer cop bullshit, I’m going to be rich, or mabey it’s just the cost of doing buisness, such is life, off to do a bench workout, later

I may only be 21 but I have learned a hell of a lot from reading this, just wanted to jump in and say “thanks emskee”

Definitely going to start using a timer during my workouts, I generally set myself an hours time cap for a workout but never thought of timing sets the way you do, Simple but great.

I recently made the switch form 5-6 workouts a week to 3 (due to reading ‘lift run bang’ actually jake) and progress has been great thus far.

RE: the young injured guys, I’ve thought this a while now, dudes my age with sub 3 plate benches going on about constant shoulder pain etc, it just shouldn’t happen, I think people look to the likes of dave tate et al and think being injured is a sign of being hardcore or a ‘badge of honor’. Screw that noise I’ll do my stretches and brush my teeth.

Anyway thanks for the amusing and informative log.

Ps jake, is your buisness over the water here in the uk? There is an ‘anytime fitness’ just opened around the corner from me.

WAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

I guess it does read like that!

Like “Bob, go help your Uncle Jack off the horse” and “Bob, go help your uncle jackoff the horse.”

That is great.

I need to learn how to write.

Yeah, your workouts are how it should be: in, BOOM, out. We are on the same plane.

That’s a lot of money. I can only shake my head. Good speed to you. Craziest situation I’ve heard of in quite a while, maybe ever.

It is about 20 degrees out now. I just realized that you do Celsius, so I guess that’s like -7 to you. I forgot (go figure) to call the dealership and ask them to just deliver the damn thing, I’ll never get there to ride it home.

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

Thank you, kind words.

I am a Prilipin from waaaaay back (70’s)and also a fan of Louie Simmons from the old days when he first applied Prilipin to powerlifting. I went with all that, triples to singles with paced sets and it has worked the best for me. In, BOOM, out.

An hour still is on the sane side. I don’t get these 2-3 hour things. Christ, this ain’t tennis.

RE rewer workouts: ya got to give it time to grow so good for you. “Optimization is a trade off” so they say. Max benefits for minimal input, that’s the goal. Good engineering. Sheiko???

The injury thing is so true and I never though about it. That shoulder thing: all these would-be powerlifters benching flat backed with their arms at 90 degrees, spotters doing half the weight, “it’s all YOU!”.

Badge of honor. I was once told of a nube who came up to and old lifter and asked him what he could do to get some stretch marks like the old guy had up on his delts and pecs. Maybe get big?

Anyway you sound sane, that’s one up for you.

Remember powerlifting is a game, have fun.
