Snapper's Strength Sojourn

Congrats Snap- you superwoman you! Those deads are too awesome. freakin sucks for the shoulder though. Wish I could have been there to cheer you on.

Congrats on the state records - you’ve matched my best deadlift but I weigh around 150lbs.
Sorry to hear about the shoulder. Keep us posted on that. I’m a veteran of two messed up rotator cuffs but I’ve never had a shoulder collapse on me like that. Hope you get it sorted but seriously, don’t rush your recovery. I first screwed my shoulder when I was 24. I’m 42 now and the feckin’ thing still hurts if I push it too hard too often.

I broke down and went to see an orthopedist yesterday regarding my shoulder. Just kept calling practices until I found one with a cancellation. I’m like that. Not very patient.

Went through a battery of [painful] diagnostics. There’s definitely swelling in the joint. So . . . I got a nice big syringe of anesthesia and cortisone. Yum. Now it’s wait and see and return in three weeks if not significantly better for an MRI to rule out a tear or serious impingement.

Decided I’ll try to see my ART guy today even though I’m dreading the pain.

No serious lifting for awhile. Oh, I suppose I can jump in the leg press machine, do hamstring curls, leg extensions, calf raises. But I find all that stuff pretty damn boring. Ahh, well. Chin up.

Fixed.

I hope that there is nothing permanently wrong. You had mentioned this shoulder bothered you before this injury - how and where and when was it hurting?

A picture to aid your recovery.

Big time meeting lifting. Sounds like the time for some high calorie recovery.

Good luck with the shoulder.

I’ve had problems with my right shoulder ever since I started seriously lifting about two years ago. Pain and weakness that has seemed to come and [sort of] go off and on. It was really bothering me the week before the meet, but I never dreamed that my shoulder would just collapse on me like it did in warmups. That scared me.

I seem to have some impingement of the ulnar nerve as well causing numbness in my lower forearm and pinky/ring finger. Truly, I feel like if someone could just grab my hand and pull my arm hard it would help line things back up. We’ll see what my ART miracle master says today.

Joe, I always clean my plate. You’ll never see a calorie count in my log because it would cause me to lose friends.

Thanks for the photo, PMPM. He doesn’t look like he has shoulder problems!

snapper!! You are incredible! Thank you for being so cool with me and MY GOD–you are a tropper! I hope the shoulder gets better :frowning: that SUCKED , but you kept on!

thanks again for all your help!..i’ll be pulling for you and your shoulder :frowning:

aides my recovery, as well.

Yeah, leg press etc. is pretty darn boring but its SOMETHING and that is way better than sitting on your butt.

And, I’m not very patient either. I would have done exactly the same thing. A woman after my own heart, you are.

PMPM, that is a delicious picture and sorely needed this AM.

A very successful session with my ART guy yesterday. God, I love that man so much I could weep at his feet with glee when he’s done with me. It doesn’t hurt that he’s young and beautiful as well. I honestly don’t know what he does.

Twists and presses and pulls and everything starts to line up and feel better. Whatever he did (combined with the cortisone shot I got on Monday) has GREATLY relieved my pain and increased my mobility.

I can now lift my arm up. I can’t, however, push my arm straight out to simulate a bench press. But I will be able to get my arm in the position it needs to be to hold the bar to squat on Monday. I see him again on Friday and can only hope that my mobility will continue to improve.

Oh joy!

That is GREAT news!

Sounds like you found yourself a good man Snap  and good with hands too - what a package.

Rooha for relieved pain increased mobility, and being able to squat on Monday.

I’m so glad to hear that the ART helped so much! Yay for increased mobility!

snap, i’m not upset with you for camping outside the ART guy’s house and stealing his dirty underwear, I’m disappointed that you’ve not yet uploaded the pics.

Arrgghhyy. Saw Mr. ART this morning. Not such great news. Diagnostics suggest a fray or tear in the labrum, which is what the orthopedist said but I chose to ignore. Banged my head against the wall about 42.5 times and cried and then decided to move forward.

I’ll be out of commission for quite some time. Out of serious commission, that is, in terms of upper body training. Will be getting regular ART therapy plus starting a very mellow rotator cuff rehab program in a week or so. We’re talking the pink dumbbells, guys. All this in the hopes of giving my shoulder time to heal, strengthen, and hopefully avoid surgery.

I can still squat and [probably] deadlift. I’ll log when I have something interesting and impressive to say. In the meantime, I’ll lurk and comment on your logs.

:frowning: sorry to hear that :frowning: i wish you a speedy safe recovery !

Awww, that sucks. Take good care of yourself and heal up!!!

Deadlift Nationals, October, Denver.

What federation is deadlift nationals? I might like that . . .

I am really sorry to hear that.

The good news is that you can still squat and maybe deadlift. Yay! Who needs bench anyways?

Can you still train with your other arm? I know there are pros and cons to unilateral training, but I seem to recall reading some strong arguments in favor of continuing to train the non-injured side.
