Ahh, the meet’s over. Came home bone tired last night. I was very, very happy with my performance even though I blew out my shoulder. I know PMPM logged much of the meet in progress, but here were my results.
Weigh in: 110.9
Squat 1: 170.5 lb – good
Squat 2: 187.5 lb – good and BREAKS THE STATE RECORD!
Squat 3: 198 lb – good and 1.78 times my bodyweight
Banged the racks hard getting the bar out on my first two attempts, resulting in somewhat ugly walkouts. The head judge finally advised canting the racks in and that solved the problem! Must remember for my next meet. I must say that all the women in this meet squatted extremely deep. Well below parallel. In fact, I think Brute left cheek marks on the platform after her first squat. My coach said I did the same on my first attempt. The USAPL judges in our part of the country are really sticklers for this and, hence, why PMPM and I are such snobs about squat depth.
Then the fun starts. During warmups for the bench, I was pressing my last single before hitting the platform and my shoulder just gave out. Just collapsed on me. Almost felt like something was dislocated. My coach tried to “re-align” it (OUCH). Got up from the bench and found that I could keep the pain to a minimum as long as I kept my elbow glued to my side. Anyway . . . in order to stay in the game and have my squat record stand, I just did a token bench of . . .
Bench 1: 66 lb – good, decided to eek out another
Bench 2: 71.5 lb – shoulder said “no way”
Bench 3: no show
You can’t imagine how silly I felt walking on the platform to bench 66 lb. surrounded by three spotters. But my coach had explained the situation to the head judge and the announcer explained to the audience what had happened in warmups.
Now that it’s morning and I had a fitful night with it, I’m not sure how I was able to even pull off one legitimate bench. I fear this may be beyond ART’s help.
Then my favorite: deadlift. Because I could keep my arm glued to my side for the lift and had swallowed about 800 mg of ibuprofin, I was able to successfully do it! The most painful part was slamming the bar down after each lift since you’re required to keep your hands on the bar and the force of the bar hitting the platform jarred my shoulder each time.
Deadlift 1: 209 lb – good
Deadlift 2: 226 lb – good and BREAKS THE STATE RECORD!
Deadlift 3: 242.5 lb. – good and 2.2 times my bodyweight
Amazingly, even with a 66-lb. bench, I broke the state record for totals as well, with 506.5 lb.
I had a blast at this meet, despite my shoulder mishap. Both PMPM and Brute were lovely and EXTREMELY talented lifters. We really had a great day.
