Snapper's Strength Sojourn

I say come on over to the over 35. and its not old man smell. Its Ben Gay, there is a difference. And I can’t speak on the old avi, but this one looks great.

OK, go ahead and suggest the oly bar, but I predict you will be talking to the hand.

It’s old news by now but I must say I do like your avatar. That is a smashing top. I have torso envy.

And speaking of torso envy…I also envy how your strength is coupled with such a light weight and wonder how you do it. Both you and Kimba are amazing that way.

So I am 1 " taller and about 20 lbs. heavier. When I lifted weights to support my running and karate, I was about 6-8 lbs. lighter. So I hover around 130 now that training for strength is my focus ( I have cut out running and no longer do karate) and only use prowler and kettle bells for conditioning. How do you stay so light and get so strong?

Are you super strict with your diet? Judging from the ice cream talk you are not. I try to eat a lot of protein (it’s never enough for my trainer) and supplement with fish oil and a minos and minimize the carbs but not to the exclusion of fun!

Avi is awesome. going from 3# to 45# is a big jump girl…don’t they have any weighted bars in the aerobic room in the middle?

Yes, of course there is a happy medium between 3 lb. and 45 lb. I’m just not a happy medium kind of girl. But like Kimba says, I may find myself talking to the hand because I’ve found from past experience that my surgeon does not compromise. Using the 3 lb. bar just allows me to go through the motions at this point. I will willingly take whatever my surgeon will give me at this point.

Thanks, Idt, for the nice comments. I am somewhat lean, but certainly not skinny. I have a petite frame but plenty of ass and thighage. I am absolutely NOT strict with diet. I eat what I want and binge occasionally on cheese, peanut butter, and (yes) ice cream. I do eat a lot of protein. Love, love meat. I don’t think of myself as that strong. I can squat about 1.5x bodyweight, bench about 10% less than bodyweight, and pull 2x bodyweight raw. When you compare those stats with other people who log here, you’ll find that my strength is absolutely nothing to write home about. I do have the benefit of a coach, who pushes me hard when I have a meet on the calendar.

Today’s workout

5 x 10 circuit with the 3-lb. bar
Romanian DL
Back Squat
Conventional DL
Sumo DL (starting to like these . . .)
Good Mornings

Three 10-second Squat Walkouts with the 45-lb. Bar

Leg Extension
3/8/90

Lying Hamstring Curl
2/8/80 (hurt my shoulder to grip so dropped weight on the last set)
1/8/70

Weighted Hypers with 10-lb. Plate
3/8

Lots of gabbing with my coach, who is back in town. Hurray.

That’s an intense leg workout. If my hamstrings can ever curl 80, I’ll be whistling Dixie.

^^ I’ll whistle your dixie.

^^Well toot toot

Plenty o’ ass and thighage.

Sumo deadlift FTW!

The conv. trap bar deadlifts I did this weekend really hit my quads hard. I think there is real benefit in training both conv. and sumo, but I don’t think there is any harm in picking a primary style to perfect.

ldt, to answer your question different from Snapper, I do watch my diet very closely. I don’t generally eat fun foods (cookies, ice cream, soda, candy), because if I did that my size 25 Hudsons would not fit me and that would make me sad. I really limit starchy carbs, white flour and sugar. I eat lots of fruit, veggies, meat and dairy. I spent most of my life weighing about 120-125 eating whatever I wanted, so I know that the clean diet is responsible for about 10 pounds of fat loss.

Another rear view.

Physical therapy today. Did 3 (sets) x 10 (reps) x 11 different exercises. Floor presses have been nixed for now since they aggravate my biceps tendon. My therapist took progress measurements to report to my surgeon tomorrow. My external rotation went from 15 degress in late June to 105 degrees today, which is super awesome. Internal rotation is a full 90 degrees. Forward flexion is a full 180 degrees. All of this is very, very good.

In the progress report to my surgeon, my PT mentioned that my biggest challenge at this point is wanting to do too much. He asked that my surgeon report back with some specific guidelines on when I can start training certain moves (squat and DL). So tomorrow morning’s appointment should be information-filled.

Hawt! That is a gorgeous view ya got there.

You look great but if you think either your ass or your thighs are big you are out of your gourd.

ass and thighage FTW, all better for squatting and DLs!! Hope you get some good news from the dr tomorrow, and great news on the increased flexion %'s.

can the incredibly cheapskate cunt club have a clause requiring ass and thighs? because really, i like mine. and yours. and im glad you like yours.

im interested to hear what your surgeon says, as well. i forget, does he have a background with athletes?

Nice ass. We are built incredibly similarly.

I can fit 3 Kimba/Snapper asses into mine. Don’t come telling me how big yo ass is girl. it’s good-lookin fine.

n, i dont think “into” is what you’d want, really.

maybe “on,” instead?
