Snapper's Strength Sojourn

haha…

I also think its funny how the frenchy is try to get all ghetto with K.

snapper! You do have a butt, and its cute and perky!!

i am on the same wagon as nlmain, i can stuff three of those asses into space occupied by my left cheek  HURRAY for ass of all sizes!!

Love the ghetto talk. Bring it on.

Saw the surgeon this morning. All good, good news. I presented him with a letter from my PT saying how wonderful I was doing and then put on my dog and pony show of flexibility. I could tell that my surgeon was tres impressed by my progress. After minor negotiation, he agreed to let me start squatting and deadlifting. No benching, cleans, or millies. No surprise there.

CBear, you asked if he worked with athletes. Yes, he’s a sports med orthopedist with a list of degrees and certs that you wouldn’t believe. He played collegiate hockey and baseball, and has served as the team orthopedist for multiple sports organizations and schools. Interestingly, his father was the lead orthopedist for the Boston Red Sox. I shopped to find him. What I love about our conversations is that I never have to define anything regarding lifting. He knows it all.

So I left his office elated and headed directly to the gym, where my coach watched me do:

Romanian DL
10/45

Superset Conventional DL/Sumo DL
5/10/45 Yep. Just the bar to start. My coach said my form was perfect. Not much of a surprise with no weight!

Leg Press (not including the weight of the empty sled)
10/90
10/180
3/5/270 supersetted with 10-lb. DB shrugs. First time shrugging in a long time.

Lat Pulldown (Got brave and tried this. Very tricky.)
3/10/30

That’s it. Very short. I see the light at the end of the tunnel. And I’m extremely happy about that.

Oh, thanks everyone for the nice ass and thigh comments.

That’s awesome, awesome news. I care more for squats/DLs anyway, not too heart-breaking.

Good job on keeping it light for your shoulders.

fantastic news Snapper!

n, i dont think “into” is what you’d want, really.

maybe “on,” instead? [/quote]

I meant into as volume, but “on” sounds so much nicer. Thanks for pointing that out Bear.

That’s great news about the green light on squats and deadlift. I can understand how you may be skipping around now.

I like the butt pictures. How big are your hips and thighs? I’m curious because you expressed interest in my pretty pink suit. My legs are 21 1/2" at their thickest and my hips are 39". The suit sliding up my legs is very frustrating.

I can’t imagine a suit sliding up my legs. I currently wear a size 28 thrice-used DL suit (got it for free) to squat. My thighs are a tad smaller than yours, O, and my hips are 36" at the widest. I definitely want a pretty pink suit and will reward myself with one once I’m squatting in fine fashion again.

Speaking of squatting, I’m going to try to give it a go with the bar on Monday. Sounds so simple but it’s really, really hard on my shoulder to rotate and hold the bar at this point let alone try to squat it. My grip has changed (widened considerably), and my shoulders are really uneven, which makes me feel off balance. I’m worried I’m going to tip over. Just not sure which direction I’m going to go yet!

If any deadlifters are interested in reporting in, I’m curious what the distance is for people from the bottom of the hand when standing upright with feet together and hands at sides to the floor. Just a curiosity inquiry.

So happy for you!

I hope if it hurts to squat though, you won’t! What about front squats? Just throwing ideas out there.

Its only the beginning of August and you have the man’s OK to squat and pull!!! That is AMAZING! What great news.

With a tape measure at zero on the ground, measured to my fist like I’m holding the bar at lockout, its about 27 inches.

Me too. I must have really long arms because I’m 5’6" and I for sure don’t have short legs.

Front squats hurt when you are 100% healthy. (:

Snapper, good to see you are doing so well, just don’t get too rambunctious with your training.

Now this is REALLY interesting. For sure O has long legs, longer than mine!

I’m thinking a more relevant question is DL stroke length. Although it’s probably not really relevant to anything at all. Just curious. I know bench stroke varies greatly. Lil Power, for example, has a super short one, which is a tremendous advantage. Mine just goes on forever. And now that I will have to narrow my grip to safely bench (someday), my stroke will go on forever plus some.

Did my PT today. All is going well except that my biceps tendon will not permit any kind of pressing activity. I tried 3-lb. DBs for floor presses (small range of motion) and was able to eek out only five reps before my biceps tendon (where it inserts into the humeral head – shoulder joint) said “no way.” I think this will take me quite some time. Months, perhaps. I can’t figure out why my biceps is screaming, though, instead of some other part of my shoulder. Both my surgeon and physical therapist said that this is not uncommon after rotator cuff surgery.

Forgot to mention that my surgeon said I could try swimming and yoga. I’m going to give both of those a spin this week.

I have to look up this biceps tendon you speak of. It seems this is the source of pain that I have and then it radiates forward through my pec and wraps around to the upper trap area.

Any possible idea?

Sorry for hijacking…

yay for swimming!! seems like a lot you get to do in a short period of time…although I’m sure it didn’t seem that way to you.

nvm, I looked it up…sounds painful regardless, but I don’t think thats my issue…hmm, weird.

Looks like I’m a little behind the bus… but yay for squats and deadlifts!

Be careful on that yoga. I’ve done more harm to myself doing yoga over the years than almost anything else. Neither one of us can take the non-competitive teachings of yoga to heart.

Ahh, you know me well.

So I went for a nice hike today. The bonus prize at the top is a nice little waterfall. On the way to the trailhead, I hit an elk with my car. I was actually able to largely stop but hit him nonetheless. He trotted off. Shook me up, though. The hike up the trail did a good job of calming my nerves. Once I reached the top, I came upon a couple having sex. I should say that they were a good pace away and never saw me.

Great news on the go-ahead to squat and DL!

and nice hike story!

I’ve actually had a deer roll up and over the top of my car and run away - just be glad that an elk didn’t try to do that. You may have been lucky the elk didn’t get aggressive with your car - I assume it was a cow elk?
