Snapper's Strength Sojourn

I understand that angsty feeling completely. Taking a break from the gym trips until you’re able to touch the iron again makes perfect sense.

100% agree.

and don’t worry about talking about your shoulder. injury and rehab is also a part of training - as is correctional work, deloading, all of that. So i actually like hearing about it.

Don’t underestimate the entertainment value of injury and rehab. Especially when served with a side order of angst.

Here’s entertainment value for you:

Took my son shopping today for some summer clothes at a sporting goods store. While he was looking at boy stuff, I took a gander around the women’s section and found a really cute top. Took it into the dressing room and promptly realized that I couldn’t try it on since I couldn’t lift my arm to get it over my head. But, then again, it was soooo cute. Couldn’t I just try to get into it? Well, I [amazingly] got it on but quickly realized that I really couldn’t get it off. After momentary panic (and then the realization that being stuck in a shirt was no reason to panic), I stepped out of my dressing room when I heard someone else step out of an adjacent dressing room, hoping to sheepishly ask for some help. What I failed to remember at this point was that the dressing rooms are unisex. So I found myself flailing about half in/half out of the shirt facing a teenage guy. He was WAY more embarrassed than I.

Enough of story.

way too funny - and I was right, you are going to screw rehab by trying on clothing…

I’m sure you gave that kid a good story too Snap

Ha ha, awesome.

Amazing story!

I recently got stuck in a dress in a dressing room. Picked up the wrong size by mistake, my lats were too big for it, and the damn thing almost ripped trying to get it off. Thankfully I had a friend with me to help my fat ass.

Did you buy the top? Because I might have just kept in on and had them scan it at the register while I was wearing it.

There are some dresses and tops that I am just not smart enough to figure out how they go on. Spatial relationships are not my forte.

haha, Kimba…Im the same way… ‘is this a skirt or a tube top?’

Nowadays, you can’t really tell!

Hey K! how’s it hangin?

Ha…that is too funny. I can imagine your panic. I didn’t mind seeing your shoulder at all. I understand the antsy feeling being at the gym. I’ve turned down many happy hours so that I could get my fix at the gym.

Saw my surgeon yesterday. I think he was very pleased with my progress. He lifted my arm for the first time yesterday to the front and to the side with a bend in the elbow. It worked. He was aware that I had requested all my medical records and spent about twice as long with me as usual, even pulled up all my computerized surgery pics and went over them with me in more detail. I’ve realized that very few people really understand what’s happening with their bodies let alone ask basic questions, whereas I show up for each visit with a list of questions to run through with him. He explained that most of his patients have the goal of just being able to return to activities of daily living after surgery, but because my goal is so lofty (competitive powerlifting), he wants to monitor everything very, very closely. At any rate, he is permitting me to start physical therapy next week, which will continue twice a week for 12 weeks. I should be able to start machine weights at the end of June and some very, very light upper body strengthening in mid-July.

Asking for med-records is a litigation red-flag. I bet he was overly diligent.

It sounds like your recovery is coming along, I am glad to hear that.

This is great news Snap! Glad to hear it. You’re doing an excellent job rehabbing.

Hmm…if asking for med records makes Dr.s uneasy I’ll need to remember to do this wicked laugh

Great news K!! Glad to hear you are healing well…keep us updated!

I’ve been thinking about you and wondering what was up. Thanks for the update.

Very interested to hear what physical therapy looks like for your injury.

My surgeon has me pretty well figured out, so I doubt he was surprised that I had requested all of my medical files in writing. Truly, reading these documents is fascinating . . . impressions from office visits as well as all the details of the operation itself.

I was looking for evidence that he considered the procedure a raging success. And I found it. Also found that he had used the words “pleasant,” “cooperative,” and “highly motivated” to describe me.

I will keep you posted on the PT. By fall, I’ll be chasing your numbers, Kimba.

Well, for that chase to be any sort of a challenge for you, I’m going to have to make the most of my head start.

Thats good news snapper. hopefully it goes even faster than you expect.

Amazing news Snapper! It’s great that you’re going to be able to start some light training again so soon!

I’m still incredibly impressed with how helpful your surgeon has been. Sounds like you hit the jackpot with him.

Looking hot in your new avi, btw.
