Although those flat sided plates look a little awkward. It seems unless you put them down between reps completely on a flat side they roll slightly forward or backwards. Can you feel that when using them?
Are you trying to goad me?
Sorry no intention to goad. I just watched the video and commented on what I saw, I didn’t even read the post that preceeded it. Spooky eh?

I need to firmly remind you that Christmas is over, Bulldog.
And it’s back to training.
.
fine. (sniff/sob)
But on a serious note. If it hasn’t been mention by anyone else. With doing sumo deads and going ultra with your squat stance. Make sure that you pay attention to how your hips feel. going wide like that does take a toll on your hips. Just make sure you don’t injure yourself.

Yes, I’m aware that sumo DLs and wide-stance squats can chew up the hips. So far, so good. But I’m not handling much weight with either yet. I should mention that I’m only doing both of these exercises as accessory work. I will still pull conventional and use my narrow-stance squats for competition.
Today’s training was bench. Push Me Pull Me joined me today. It was helpful. She basically reinforced everything my coach has been telling me plus gave me a few setup tips of her own. We did flat bench and then reverse bands to three boards in the cage. I worked up to bodyweight benches in the cage, which made my shoulder nervous.
I’m struggling with what my physical therapist referred to as a very strong guarding instinct. I resist positions that make my shoulder vulnerable. So taking a liftoff is a funny thing. PMPM chronicles her humor with me fighting my coach during the liftoff in her log. I even took a liftoff and let my right elbow buckle at one point to take the stress off my shoulder. Maybe I’m just not mentally ready for this.
At any rate, some takeaways from today’s training were the importance of a good setup. PMPM has it down to a science. And it’s reflected in her numbers. I’m all slap-dash. Also, the benefit of a good arch and leg drive cannot be emphasized enough. And having short arms really helps. The difference between PMPM’s stroke length (wide grip and short arms) and mine (narrow grip to protect my shoulder and long arms) is quite dramatic. Plus, I have no upper back girth. It would sure help my bench if I could add some mass in that area.
Ah yes, those multi sided plates…i struggle with them too. But having never DLd with round plates, i don’t even know better. Good thing for your other membership.
Cool that you and PMPM trained together! Good stuff.
Interesting re: the big back and big bench - Snap, you considering putting on some mass for a bigger bench?
After waking from a hypnotic state, (pendulum arms & striped socks) the dead’s were outstanding & made to look incredibly easy. You pulled them like you owned them. Nice work Snap.
Happy New Year! I expect to see great things from you in 2011. You inspire me to try to be stronger cause I figure if you can lift it, so can I. Often, I am mistaken. But I am stubborn.
