Squat Platform Practice
5/45
5/75
3/95
3/115
1/127 (probably my opener)
1/137
1/143 (probably my second attempt)
1/148
1/153 fail
I was happy to hit the 148. And it was clean and deep (not a surprise). I have a special treat of a video for your viewing pleasure of my failure at 153. In terms of self critique, I’m too deep and lost stability after the dip in the hole. My coach stabilized me and I finally pushed the weight up.
Overall, I’m pleased. I’d estimate the highest my raw squat max ever was at about 1.5x bodyweight. So I’m not too far off that at this point.

So, I know the meet is all serious business and stuff but am I allowed to comment on the pigtails and the cutie-pie smile?
But of course. Please do.
So I gotta brag on my coach a bit. He’s just so great. He’s doing the State meet in two weeks as well. First meet in a good number of years for him. Today he squatted a deep single at 405 lb. And he’s just weeks away from his 71st birthday. Plus he has lymphoma. How’s that for motivation?

OK, good…very cute smile.
405 @ 71…shit. Well, that gives me 26 years to get to 4 plates a side. At my current rate, that sounds just about right.
I like it when your coach gave you a little pat afterwards, like he knew you were pissed off at failing it. Snap squats are always impressive, even fails.
Competing at 71 at those weights, while being sick, is totally bad ass. Please give that man a “way to go” from me.
Not only is he a bad ass lifter, but he’s really one of the folks in the community who will take people under his wing, make sure they’re doing it right, and having fun.
When I showed up to my first Women’s Nats, not knowing anyone, with only my hubby to handle me, I was terrified. Hubby tries, but just doesn’t have the experience to really know what I need to do (and at that point, I didn’t have that experience either). Snap’s coach was there with another one of his lifters who was in a different session, and he took total care of me. I love that crotchety old bastard.

You know, that’s one of the things I love about this sport. I have had so many people go out of their way to help me out. I always try to encourage new lifters to get into the sport for this very reason.
He does sound totally bad ass. I hope I’m competing at that age.
Yeah, my coach is great. I was a lurker at PLing meets for awhile. Just in awe of the sport. And it seemed like he was always the head referee. And I’d ask him questions at breaks. After a couple of meets, he dragged me to the gym to see what I could do and has been helping me ever since. I’m very lucky. He’s handled some exceedingly talented lifters over the years. And whenever I get down on myself for my lack of talent, he tells me to STFU. He puts up with my snits, always puts a positive spin on my efforts, and has encouraged me even in my low moments.
As nlmain and O point out, it was only a few short months ago that I could hardly get the shoulder rotation to squat the bar. And that felt damn heavy. So I’ve made some headway. [Insert emoticon here if I were the emoticon kind of girl]

…um…I didn’t see much of a complete fail in that vid, you did it, just with a lil extra hands aid. you shall have it and more soon.
Agree. From the description I was expecting to see the bar rolling around unattended on the safety pins while you were in the fetal position at the bottom of the rack. What you in fact did was quite impressive even if you didn’t make it unassisted.
