Sleeveless Shirts: Too Intimidating?

I used to belong to a gym in the summer with an outdoor portion where we would do deadlifts no shirt and no shoes in the beating sun, it was a great feeling.

I would never go to this weak college gym. I would try to distance myself from this pussification if I were you. A cutoff makes it so much easier to see progress as far as muscle growth and bodyfat in the chest, delt and lat. This sounds like a U of Minn. funded Planet Fitness.

I wouldn’t have any clothes if I had to get rid of all my sleevless shirts!

Id buy a tight-fitting t-shirt and roll up the sleeves. If you do it right, it’s just like a sleeveless T.

Do it one “roll” at a time until they get used to it.

I’d be pushing the limits until I got booted, that’s for sure.

I wear short sleeves all the time.

Whatever is clean-ish is what I wear.

If you need a sleeveless shirt to maintain intensity then you need to reevaluate how you train.

Granted its ridiculous that they REQUIRE anything above and beyond what is sanitary, but theres nothing you can do about that.

Those assholes come around all the time and ask me to use the clips when Im benching and squating, hell Ive had a guy ask me to use clips deadlifting.

I mean what the fuck does he think is going to happen ? Im going to “accidently” throw 450 pounds over my head like the hulk and slide a plate off so it tips ?

Me either. Outside of work, that is pretty much all I wear.

Actually, no we don’t. I like to see my muscles working. I want to see the progress I’ve made. All of these things contribute to my intensity. I really think the only people who can’t understand that…aren’t carrying that much muscle to start with.

I haven’t trained in a full t-shirt in maybe 10 years. It would fuck up my focus now simply because I am used to seeing what is going on with my body, including the pump.

Now if you really want to show them what an intimidating shirt can be, wear one of those black mesh shirts and tie it Daisy Duke style. A whole new level of intimidation. Just make sure it has sleeves…

on a side note, does any body find people who “ACTUALLY” train. ie have a goal and train brutally hard to get it, seem less preoccupied with how they look in the gym?

No. I was a fatass. I am not a fatass at all now. I can see muscle definition while working out. I can see the increases in muscle size. I can see the progress I have made. I don’t do any excercise (when it is possible) without watching myself in the mirror.

I also do not walk past a mirror in my house, at my job, or anywhere on earth without checking out all the fucking progress I have already made and dissecting what improvements (there are many) still need to be made.

Call me what you want, but since I started training balls to the wall I have become more preoccupied with myself and my appearance than ever.

They do, but the same rule applies there as well.

Then, no offense, but your college sucks.

I mean, really.

It REALLY REALLY REALLY SUCKS.

Oh come on! The football team’s gym is worried about sleeveless shirts being intimidating? I guess the notion of close to 300 lbs guy throwing a ton of weight around is just fine though for Joe and Jane Average?

Some people just confound all sense and logic.

If you work hard to have big muscles why not show them, plus when your that big your allowed to really wear wht ever you want.

I am doubting there are people anywhere near 300lbs of mostly muscle on a college campus that acts like that.

I have never seen anything in regards to such silly rules in any gym i have been in.

I mean what if your 280-300lbs… wtf kinda shirt do you have to wear NOT to look intimidating…

So like i can be twice their width but not show 1 bit of skin on up upper arms… HA

I headed over to my college rec center for the first time the other day and I was excited to see how good a free weight room would be. Before I started lifting I checked out both of the weight rooms that are placed above and below one another, and it looked pretty decent.

After 10 minutes of lifting I started to notice how crowded it was, and right as I was heading over to the squat rack a rec center worker told me to take off my head phones.

She told me that I had to put on one of the shirts that they had because the sleeveless shirt that I wore was against their policy because it can “intimidate” others. I was appalled, but I complied to their rules and put on their over sized, damp, piece of shit shirt that they gave to me. I hated it.

Not only was I sweating like a dog, I looked like Hank Hill’s father because of the sheer size of the shirt. I know I have to just ignore the fact that I have to buy 5 new shirts in order to lift, but it just annoys the piss out of me.

This post for the most part was about venting, but I’m thinking about petitioning this rule. Thoughts?[/quote]

Let me ask you a question, what if your really skinny, than are you allowed to wear a cutoff shirt?

if their not fans of cuttoff tops because they intimidate, where do they stand of grunting/screaming out reps? or even just getting physced up for that final set? the deep breathing, the sadistic look in your eye before you go under the bar?

Too true.

I do not foresee a strong season for your school this year or anytime soon.

Beats having the folks on the beach interrogate you and asking you hundreds of questions about how you got to be so lean and muscular right? At least then you can enjoy the sand, surf, and your new wife in peace

As much as we appreciate your comments and articles, your on your honeymoon! WTF are you doing on this website?
By all means keep the training up, but i’m sure the world won’t end if you give up talking shit about training for two weeks while you spend them with your new wife.
Congradulations anyway!
