Was just wondering why this is. I eat pretty regularly throughout the day, but maybe this could be the reason. what do you guys think. Whenever im finishing school, or in school, around 4pm, I doze off hardcore.Normally it’s when im on the train. I can’t stay awake for the life of me.
However, if i get home just a bit later, say 5 or 530, I’m normally back to normal energy. Is this just from eating that my energy levels plummit. I mean i eat breakfast at 730, snack at school, lunch at 11 30, then a snack or two, sometimes three. and around come 4 . im half faling asleep. any ideas why?
I have had the same thing happen to me for years, and I still can’t figure out why. For me, it is between breakfast and lunch. I get what I’d call painfully tired, I am miserable and it hurts to stay awake. Functioning becomes difficult.
I have tried so many variables, eating big, eating small, not eating, caffiene or no caffiene, changing sleep patterns, etc. Nothing seems to work. My only choices are to take a nap, or tough it out and it will pass. I am curious for any answers as much as you are.
This is funny, I have the exact same “problem”.I finish school at 3pm and I always take a nap at 3h30 (after eating) to 4-5h30. Then I take my shake and go to the gym.
Naps are proven to improve productivity in the workplace. But it is best to limit them to 30 min. That way you awake refreshed, instead of slipping deeper into sleep(later stages), and waking up feeling groggy and even more tired.
On a normal night i fall asleep around 12 or 12 30 and get up at 7. so i am missing a bit of sleep. I catch up a bit on wednesday and mondays. The days where i go to bed too late i snooze in class, or fight the snoozing. I’m not sure what kind of carbs i eat. I always have a small meal for lunch, then snack on fruit, granola bars, a healthier choice of granola bars if i can.
I noticed that when I have too much caffeine and/or too many carbs I experience the sleepiness at the same time you are. Keeping caffeine and carbs to a minimum have helped a great deal.

It sounds to me like you need more sleep. That should pretty much do it. 8 hours is recommended in general, for people who train, more than that even is ideal. You are wearing your body out and not giving it enough rest, so it tries to crash around four.
There is a normal pattern that your cortisol levels follow. Your cortisol levels rise before you go to sleep, making you feel tired, priming your body for sleep.
There was an article on T-Nation from “I don’t know when” that I read that mentioned this. There is a spike in cortisol in the afternoon and late in the evening (before bedtime). So you feel tired in the afternoon irregardless (sic) of your sleep or eating patterns.
BTW, texasguy, your avatar is creepin’ me out right now.

Have a few hard drinks at that time.Problem solved.Cheers!
hahaah. yeah the other part that pisses me off, I want to come home and take a nap, but 95% of the time i get home try to and nothing. nothing more aggravating than that. ok, maybe theres a whole slew of things more annoying, but you get my point.

Since there is now a grammar thread, i’d just like to point out that irregardless is a double negative and as such is not a proper word.
