Ok, we all know we should. …
Is 10 hours of sleep reasonable on a heavy lifting day for a 52 year old male with 12 % body fat?
Am I pushing too hard? Am I just old ?

I seriously don’t understand the question. Are you asking if this is enough sleep?
Is it too much?
Or is there something I am missing in terms of recovery. Yes, I drink the kool-Aid and buy the products.
It would be for me. I have never slept for 10 hours straight in my entire life. My son and my mom definitely need more sleep than I do.
Do you feel rested? I think this is a very individual thing. No, one size fits all here.
Thanks. You too will be 50 some day.
I am 54 thanks!
If you feel rested and well at 10 hours, I see nothing wrong with that. Most adults DO NOT sleep enough for wellness and recovery. However, anything 8 or over that still leaves you feeling unrested deems it time for a sleep study IMO. You may have sleep apnea and not know it.
If I’m on vacation and go to bed when I feel like it, then wake up with no alarm I usually average around 7 hours and feel great. I believe this is my need/set point and an easy way to gauge it.
I get that a trained circadian rhythm and various inputs can vary sleep needs, however. I follow a few training programs through the year, and when working templates that require a lot of CNS activation I generally sleep more too. Maybe 8 or even 9 hours. Sometimes I go to bed early, sometimes I pick it up in a nap or a mix of both.
I wouldn’t over analyze it. Sleep until you feel good and adjust your schedule around it.
