My daughter wants to lift but every time I go visit her at college, she has other things to do. My son started lifting last year. I had lifted with him maybe twice when he was fifteen, but his bros started’ve lifting. There is a PED culture in HS, he has friends that they call the Tren Bros. Kind of scary.
I read an article years ago written by Johnny Miller about how to get your kids interested in golf. He wrote that you should bring some water balls, let them hit the balls in the water, and quit after three or four holes while they were still having fun.
If you force them to play a full found, they are tired and grumpy and don’t want to come back.
I found that to be true in teaching as well. Keep the activities short, have kids move. I would do stations and have kids move from station to station.
I am sure your wife is familiar with this.
Same thing with baseball - five minutes of pepper, five minutes of hitting off the tee, batting practice, shag balls, take infield - keep it moving.
I am sure you know all of this, sorry for the rant.
Time is short. Kids are on loan to us. You have to give them back. Memories are better than toys.
I greatly appreciate this. I tend to go teacher mode sometimes and get didactic.
Obvs, I have made mistakes.
But, I do know that making memories is more important than toys, that having a conversation with your kid is the greatest gift you can receive as a father, that you will blink and they are gone.
My son goes to college this fall. He grew up well, a smart and kind kid, despite my shortcomings as a father.
To me, he is still that fat blonde baby that slept on my chest. Except now he is 6’ tall, plays guitar, drums, bass, is in a band, and will be packing up and going to college.
This reminds me that I forgot to reply about study habits in the other thread.
But what I want to say in this thread is that it seems like you’re getting the bug again, Skyz, and I’m excited for you about it. It feels SO GOOD when things click into place and it becomes a passion again, and I’m hoping you’re headed there.
I’ve been feeling pretty good for long enough now, meaning I’m no longer waiting for another shoe to drop health/well being wise.
Having some time off really helps too. I love doing what I do, but man, it can really take a lot of energy (not just volts & amps!).
Edit:
And this-
I missed the pump/fatigue feeling that I now have in my back, and marginally in my legs. I liken it to feeling full, like thanksgiving full. Cuz for me its like a signal to just chill out and take it easy for a little while.
Kiddo worked on form with an empty bar, ran around the yard hitting stuff with a stick, single hand bent rows, and loaded carries with me using 20 lbs.
And like clockwork, work is picking back up as we enjoy an early spring.
My god, there is a lot of adorableness packed into such a tiny thing.
Not mine, but I’ll be around him a lot.
After tackling me and pinning me down and licking my face he flopped down and went to sleep with his face buried in my hand.
Shortly after the pics were taken my phone fell and I stopped abruptly. The phone seems to be ok though. Nothing got broken, no one got hurt.
Was nice though. Spent the majority of time after warm up at above 50 rpm. Thats my desired minimum.
Clock was set at 25 min. counting down, so that was done in about 22.5 ish.
