SkyzykS's Keep Hitting It Until It Works Again Log

Nope, I quite like this @SkyzykS fella. Let’s not try and kill him.

Ya know, I could probably hang in there, at least make a respectable showing.

It’s just like mushrooms. They’re all edible. Once. :skull:

Actually, I’ll doodle with the readout panel and see what my 5 min. distance is. I know I was getting close to one kilometer last time through the program, but I was hitting an avg. of about 120 watts.

That’s the spirit!

It’s been a horrendous challenge the past couple of years, but one of my biggest struggles has been stepping back.

I’m getting better at it though. At least for now…:smiling_imp:

Sort of - I emailed employee wellness yesterday and expressed interest in having my door pin added, and also asked where it is. I think it shares my parking lot, but who knows. Our small hospital has grown into various office parks surrounding it, so maybe it’s in the heart center beside me (increased odds that I’d use it); maybe not. I was surprised not to have received a return email by the time I’d left work yesterday.

ALSO, we had our first weekly team meeting in person yesterday, during which we interviewed a guy who currently works in the ER, and I managed, while asking whether he thinks the much slower pace might be difficult, to work in that I’d been bored enough during a no-show to email wellness about accessing cardiac rehab. So hopefully my team is thinking “maybe I should do that, too!”

We had a catered lunch - salad, sandwiches, chips, and big cookies, plus cupcakes, because it was somebody’s birthday - and got to unmask. Everyone loved the applicant, but I’m not sure whether it was because he was legit the best psychiatric nurse practitioner candidate EVER, or because we were all giddy with joy over the socialization.

So you have an office where you work that is titled to at least give the impression that someone cares about how you’re doing?

That’s pretty nice! Way better than the crying corner, the circular file/complaint dept., and of course The Door.

Kidding aside, that is nice.

Sounds like that really hit the spot on your craving for people. Interaction. Human interaction. Not that you eat people. I mean it sounds like you had a good time . And found a good place to get comfy in and do some good work. :+1:

Then me:

I was actually doing this a couple weeks ago.

In all earnestness, yes! At the 30-day mark I had to do a performance review of them: do I feel that my experience matches what I was told during the hiring process; have people been helpful during the onboarding process; based on previous work experiences, is there anything the hospital is not doing that I believe would be an improvement, etc. It’s really nice. I have clients working in entry level jobs who seem to feel the same way.

We had national provider month, during which I (everyone, including clerical people) received a packet of wildflower seeds, a jug of maple syrup, a coffee mug, and a t-shirt. I found extra money in my paycheck, which turned out to be a retention bonus equivalent to 3% of my paycheck for the Covid year (mine was prorated, so only a couple hundred, but still). And most recently they asked us to do a survey, which bought me a giant frosted sugar cookie and a tote, and I believe a hat or visor still to come.

Some of this is due to Covid funding, but the hospital really seems to want high employee satisfaction, which I believe it’s achieved.

I think so! I’m dropping the private practice and going full time in the fall. I love my team, which prioritizes fit in hiring. I’ve been through two interview processes now, and “I think he/she would be a good fit” is the highest compliment. So I work in a cozy, house-looking building with 10 people who love the work we do and love being part of our team, with an umbrella organization that wants me to be happy.

I don’t even know if I need to troll cardiac rehab for friends!

That is really important. We’ve had a few crews year over year that were awesome. Good people, knew their work, put in real honest effort. Things went soooo well.

Then there’s this:

One of the coldest winters on record. A few times it went all the way up to -3 f. Can’t fault the elements or the nature of the work. It’s just some tough shit.

But the division supervisor Keeping The Money that was supposed to fund our Christmas party, now that was bad.

But he did buy us all scratch off lottery tickets!

For any given comparator, that was the absolutely worst place I’ve ever worked.

The people really do make the difference.

Not joking.

So before I forget-

Hit 500 meters at almost exactly 2:30, averaging about 80 watts, 22 strokes per min.

Faded toward the end and finished the 5 min. at 960 meters.

Not that I’m competing or anything :grinning:. Really doubt those are competitive numbers.

We’ve all hit a wall around 300m so far, seems to be the last 200m that slow you down.

You guys are probably working a lot harder, getting a much lower T/D.

My first 500 is right at the 2.5 min. mark, feels pretty good and solid. It’s the second one that gets me.

And who else? I’m trying to sort through these logs but you guys don’t sit still very long.

Not that I’m competing. That would set off the cardiac lunk alarm. Which is also my favorite form of flirting. Can’t hide anything from the EKG.
Anything.

I think @alex_uk @carlbm and @jdm135 have all gone for it.

Nothing at all? That’s disappointing, I like to keep my air of mystery where I can.

Nothing!

There are very clear and almost immediate physiological responses which can not be hidden!

Yeah I managed 420m before almost dying. I set out FAR too quickly. I thought I was going to pass out lol.

Reading that you rowed a full 1k? That’s pretty hard core.

Me? Or @SkyzykS?

On a Concept2? What’s your wheel set on? (Intensity…no idea what they call it.) Maybe I need to time myself. :grimacing: Maybe next week! At cardiac rehab!

Because guess what?! I GOT A NIBBLE! The front desk staff at my clinic asked me last night when I go, because she’s been going! WITH A FRIEND! So that’s potentially two! And she laughed when I told her I’m friend-shopping for my husband, too. (I need friends with friends.)

But here’s a potential issue: She’s very typically middle-aged. Overweight, presumably sedentary, poor diet, etc. I’m middle-aged, too, of course, but I suspect these women are struggling on the TM at 3 mph, no incline, and even on my first day in two months I’m going to be walking at a fast clip and sprinting, with minimal effort (heart rate up, yes, struggling to catch breath, no). And then, what, I get on the erg and try to kick your imaginary ass by rowing 500 meters in 2:25? (LOL)

I worry it’ll be a problem.

Resistance, I guess.

I’m going to have to check on that. It used to be set at 10, but it doesn’t actually feel like it used to. Maybe that’s what’s going on.

Good!

As long as she doesn’t let that stop her.

She might not be a great match for running & fitness but…

Might be more fun for the wine and cheese and charcuterie.

Don’t Start! You’re gonna get me kicked out of rehab!

Plus, I have to check the resistance setting.

Yeah, but you guys are hitting times that are a full minute better than the pace I’m going for equal distance.

You can very likely hit 1 kilometer on a lark in 5 minutes.

There is no way I’m chopping a minute off my 500m. t/d any time soon.

We’re gonna be quite the bunch of pumpkin eaters in the SkyzykS household this fall.

Oh! Happy accident, stuffed with tuna & light mayo!

Didn’t know what I had in mind when I did those. Turned out that was it.
