SkyzykS's Keep Hitting It Until It Works Again Log

Little better today.
Warm up: 1 set 15 reps dumbell ohp/ curls with 20 lb.
1 set w/20 reps.

Then:

5 X (20 push ups + 20 rows @ 75 lbs. + 5 min. bike).

Gave myself a nice little pre-wo jolt with 250mg. Of sodium (about 1/8 tsp. salt). And an orange.
Gonna chow down on some kiwis :kiwi_fruit: now, and had a ton of black beans/ground beef yesterday and this afternoon.

Anyways, I think I need to do better with my electrolytes.

Threw in some pump stuff:

Overhead tricep extension, barbell 45 lbs. 15 reps, 20 lb. dumbbell 12 reps, 10 lb. 15 reps/failure.

Curls, barbell, 45 lbs, same reps/progression to failure as tris.

why so?

After a little analysis it seems to be a serious lack in my dietary intake, and I get these bouts of exhaustion that last for days.Throw in daily use of diuretics and moderate use of laxatives (due to the diuretics!) and I’ve been getting these bouts of spastic twitching in which ever muscle groups I’ve most recently used.

An aside: I’ve never had problems with bowel movements like I have in the past 7 mos. Even after drano, IV nutrition for a month and gallons of morphine my digestive tract bounced back pretty quick, but this is just fucked. Ok, enough crying about poo. :joy:

Typical guidelines recommend 3500-4500 mg. per day, and I’m at about half of the low end, maybe 2000 mg. on a good day.

Throw in a reduced sodium (usually 11-1200 mg. /day) and I think I just end up really depleted sometimes. Usually 4-6 good days with 2-3 lifting sessions, followed by 2-4 days of beatness.

So Thursday and Friday I pushed sodium up to my daily limit (about 1900 anyways) and got in as much potassium as I could, and yesterday perked right up, actually felt pumped and energized, and hit it last night with good energy and motivation.

Damn, I feel kinda sorry that you’re limited to such little sodium. Then again, each gram of sodium you can take now is something to be thankful for. Also, that’s a waaay cheaper option than having to take some branded pre-work out to feel hyped for a session lol

Side note: I’m a little curious to how pre-workout feels like. I see other people in the gym drinking pre-work out, protein shakes, BCAAs and whatever that I wonder sometimes what I’m missing out on lol. I just go good ole’ plain water lol

I’ve used a few. A while back (15-10 years ago) they were just dextrose and some aminos. Aside from the basic nutritional/physiological elements they provide, they’re nothing to get excited about.

Except for the caffeine. 600 mg. of caffeine is plenty to get excited about.

I liked Surge and Metabolic Drive though. Those and a cup of espresso are awesome.

For my own I’d just mix a half scoop of choco whey and a rounded tablespoon of cornstarch (dextrose) into a cup of strong coffee and whip it up in my mixer thingy.

Sadly…I don’t feel the difference

There are times I have a drink at Starbucks worth 4 shots of espresso and I still feel sleepy

You’re on metoprolol too?!? :joy:

I love adrenaline and just getting ripped on stimulants and danger.

Metaprolol is like grandma’s saggy ass when you’re accustomed to Iggy Azalea.

I think that’s one of those things people don’t notice until it’s greatly reduced.

Ba k when I had that, It was like my 5th or 6th day sitting in the hospital eating a completely bland diet and I just felt like a bowl of room temperature gravy. My wife, son, and best buddy all came in and they had pizza and breaded chicken tenders and all kinds of shit. I grabbed a chicken tender, a hand full of doritos and chugged about 12 oz. of coke and within minutes was up and running around the floor . We started playing dodge ball in the visitor/rec room, and a couple of nurses even came in to check on me.

That was a long way around to “Now my pre workout is 1/8 tsp. salt in a cup of coffee/extra sugar.”.

And a fresh piece of nicotine gum.

This mornings ride:

Felt good. Energy is up, mood is good, and I just saved 4000 words!

Something a little different tonight:

75 lb. Power clean/front squat/push press complex 5 sets of 3 reps.

85 lb. push press, 3 sets of 5.

First group done as fast as possible, which is funny because without any type of real explosive/speed work in a really long time, I’m slow as fuck. Push press was not what anybody would call fast, but was done with fast intention. Intention. Hahahahah

Produced a shit ton of heat though very quickly. Felt really good too. I’ve always liked moving in the fast/explosive range. I also typically get a great anabolic hormonal response from that set/rep/speed.

I will.

I went to this old Ukrainian olympic lifting coach a good while back, maybe 12 years or so now. That dude was fast. Like for the clean or snatch, by the time the bar was up at chest level to catch it was on its own, floating.

He said If I keep trying and do better he’d let me use the girls bar!

I’ll just keep hammering away. :joy: Something is either gonna work better or break completely.

Tonight was just resting and eating. Something must be working, because I feel pretty good. Mood has been light, energy good, going into the end of the week feeling strong.

Peeled my pinky toenail backward last night bumbling around in the dark though. Dinged it right off of my 20 lb. dumbbell that the wife always tells me to put away. I gotta go get it taken off or something tomorrow. I tried sticking it back on but that didn’t work. Tried clipping it entirely off, but that looked like a homocide scene.

I should just leave the medicine to the professionals.

Just to be clear, that hammering comment was in reference to your hammering comment in another thread. Gave me a good laugh :joy:

Yeah. I guess that stuff was just on my mind.

And now you know how to fix a Pancreas too.

:joy: :joy: :joy: :joy:

I broke my foot walking into a 20 lb dumbbell in the dark that I’d used to keep a door from blowing shut with windows open. I wasn’t even moving quickly. Stupid, vicious dumbbells.

Ouch! Wasn’t that the one a while back that was persistently giving you some difficulties?

Doc said my Pinky toe might be broken, but the standard course is just to tape it to the other, so it doesn’t actually matter. The nail will come off in its own time.

Or I get tired of it snagging on my sock.

So, past couple of days were a bit blah. I got a flu shot during my toe visit and just felt kinda blah.

But today was good. It was sunny and 50 degrees so me and kiddo went on a bike adventure to the walking/biking trail and had a really good time. I walked along as he rode, and we covered about a mile and some change each way. I even broke into a trot for about a half mile, which felt pretty good.

So now I’m just doing some pumpy stuff I’ll probably edit in later.

So today I did a 40 min. ride in the morning. No great speed or distance, just getting it in and keeping the blood flowing. Followed that with a few sets of curls and overhead press. Didn’t even really keep track or the metrics.

Oh well. Just feeling flat this week. Been better, been worse. Got one hell of a late afternoon nap in though.

We’ll see how tomorrow goes.

Ripped that nail out the other day too. Glad it’s gone. Hurt a little, but watching the wife jump out of her skin and try to hide in the crevice of a chair made it all worth while.

And a kid sandwich. :relaxed:

Little Bubba likes to make me sandwiches sometimes. Usually pretty good ones like chocolate syrup/potato chip. This one has a valentine candy theme.

The gummy hearts are actually pretty good.
