I just got back from hoarding fish oil…it was on sale; buy one, get one free. Stocked up and saved 40bucks!

OK… re: Fish oil… here is my 2 cents… I USED to think that I could take as much as I could afford (sometimes up to 30 grams a day)… I know Charles Poliquin recommends ridiculously high amounts for some people and I know CBear said when she was at her leanest she was taking about 50 grams a day (right Bear?) I have also hear you should take 1 gram for every 10 lbs you weigh and I have heard Bobbi’s recommendation from other sources as well (1 gram for every % body fat you have)… Anyway… I thought that the more you took the better…UNTIL I got my test results back… EEK!

You must be VERY careful because fish oil can thin your blood… good for most “normal people” who are at risk of heart attack… bad for us relatively healthy people. My blood was not clotting properly and it was taking a long time for any cuts I had to heal. Also… fish oil lowered my cholesterol to the point where my body was not optimally making hormones. YIKES! My cholesterol was TOO LOW and my Dr believes it was from all the fish oil I was taking.

Finally, when I got my allergy test back… I have allergies to so many different types of fish… and I don’t really eat fish!! It was from the fish oil! My main problem was trying to find a “deal” and taking a low quality fish oil. Now I take Carlson’s which is VERY high quality and I only take 2 grams a day and 2 grams of Barlean’s Flax oil.

While I still think taking fish oil is VERY good… I would stick with more moderate amounts of a HIGH quality fish oil to prevent problems! =D

I read about your experience on your log a while back. Made me take a second look at fish oil.
A very wise individual once told me to cycle, cycle cycle…supps, whey, etc …even foods because your body develops allergies over time.

But yes, I do use fish oil when cutting but with verrrrryy extended breaks in between and I also switch up brands. I do not go below a certain price point, though.
I just get reallly lazy when it comes to typing so you may be getting only 1/3 of the story :smiley:

it’s true. summer/fall of 2007, when I was LIVING (not competing) at a bf of %10-%13, I was taking around 50 1g fish oil caps per day. The brand was “Smart Blend.” I rotate them now, partially on purpose, partially bc of cost and convenience (I like to have some with me wherever I go, and Carlson’s has to be refrigerated.)

I take around 15g daily (some days I miss taking it at all), up to 30g if I’m dealing with extra soreness/inflammation or if I feel ucky for any other reason. I also take Evening Primrose Oil (up to 9g/day during TOM), and a lot of dietary fats.

Good to know. 50gms is quite a bit!

Got to the gym, stretched, foam rolled, started to do my BB complex…gym closes.

Got home improvised.

Chins x 6 (always got stuck on the 6th one…:stuck_out_tongue: )
Jump lunges x 10(EL)
Push ups x 10
Super burpees x 10
russian twists x 10(ES)

4 rounds, total.

Thanks, Kimba…my idea of an off day wasn’t flying :smiley: so I decided to call it an ACTIVE off day. My exercise ADHD doesn’t allow me to sit still for too long.

Skyel, do you also cycle supplements like D and multi vit? Never thought about extended use creating allergies.

In response to the whole thin blood from fish oil problem, I’m taking small amounts of fish oil (4mg/day) . When I got my flu shot I was told I bleed a lot. What? I’m a great coagulator… the puncture bubbled a few times. However, I lived to tell. Can’t be the miniscule amount of fish oil.

Skyel’s Active Day Off is forcing me outta’ this chair in shame!

Not as much with multis, mostly stuff that comes from food sources, if I could put it that way. So, stuff like whey protein, flax,fish oil, vitamin E, even C…I try to alternate between 2/3 good brands.
Not sure if the fish oil caused that, but you never know. You may have some underlying condition that may have been exacerbated by the fish oil…who knows.

Better go squat. Linzer tart’s going to waste.
