Skye Log

Today is an OFF day but my ass hurts from doing Tabata KB swings.

I was abit too overzealous with the 16kg KB.

Whereas, some of us would KILL for this one. cough, cough.

I know you can pull 155 and then some. I dare you to try.
Oh, I absolutely can pull 155lb. Just not for 9!

I’ll try though. Next deadlift day.

hi skye! tabata anything should put a hurtin’ on most folks. 16 kg KB…you rock!!

say, i’m interested in how you (and others) can pull so damn much but you mentioned you were working on 35 and up DBs? (i think i recall)
i mean i see the obvious that DLs requires completely different muscle group but i guess it was just interesting to me as my DL is so lame in comparison to you and others.

i guess that 5/3/1 will be perfect to start adding some strength there and increase those #s on the DLs since i think i have pretty darn good form with them.

Hi T,
35s for which exercise? I’m pretty sucky on the push moves. I’m just now getting into the 30s on my DB bench and on the OHP, I can use the oly bar sans weight for a couple of reps which I’m pretty happy about because I need to put some size on my upper body, especially my shoulders.

Don’t quote me on this but I think it boils down to a combo of things, biomechanics being one of them. I pulled 225 x 3 raw even before I could ever squat 95(there’s a vid somewhere in the first few pages) weighing a miserable 126lbs, I think. Why? I don’t know.
I pull/row pretty decent…I need to work on the push moves (new year’s resolution? maybe)

Molly’s pretty smart, she could probably tell you why.

Mind over matter, Kimba.

Do you lift ‘touch and go’ or do you reset before you pull again?

yeah, i’m sure the answer is brilliantly clear to more educated folks than myself. push-pull…duh, very different. i guess i can push decently. but that, like anything, probably has more to do with the length of time i’d been doing DB presses. so, practice practice for me it will be.

 thanks!

hey, did you do a figure contest before? ( i’ve kept up with the later part of you journal, so forgive if that is a dumb question)

Oh no no no…no dumb questions here. I’m learner, too so I know the value of a question. Any questions a good question.
Nah, I’m hardly the figure type…I just like to sweat the small stuff

I reset. Sometimes successfully, and sometimes not.

Meat advised me against touch and go, reasoning that a beginner’s form only deteroriates as a touch and go set progresses. I know I’m sacrificing the momentum, but that’s OK.

Push vs pull is not all there is to it, though. Certainly most people would have a hard time pulling twice their bw in chinups. The number of muscles helping with the weight is definitely part of it, amiright? You’ve got about 3/4 of your body helping out in the dl, compared to an opress, for example.

Thanks, arachne!

Puppy as personal trainer. Excellent!
Kimba, I couldn’t ask for a better trainer!
We ran sprints today in the rain. She’s such a trooper. We had the track/field all to ourselves and she didn’t wanna leave when we were done. Now she’s trying to wrestle me my fish oil caps out of my hand…what a greedy Gus!

Sprints 100s x 8

Right hip flexor feels funky. Need to foam roll.

UGH sprints - I have such a love/hate relationship with these. But they’re just so damn good for you (and your ass). Good for you that you have the energy/motivation to do em!

Although, what is more expensive in the long run: a trainer or a puppy?

Good on you for running sprints in the rain. I actually like sprints, but they never really fit into my bicycling/skiing days between lifting.

Kimba- Ha! Good question. May be the puppy but she definately makes a better trainer!
Skiiing is fun! I did XC skiing while I was living in Moscow. We really didn’y have a choice; they handed us skis and put us in a huge field for 2hrs. Immersion is the best teacher, I tell you!

Thank’s Masch!

happy new year skye! moscow?! man, some of you peeps around here have some very interesting travels. i’m by no means a sprinter or runner. but i loved the hill sprints for the obvious benefits. had to stop because of heel spur, but i’m thinking about giving them a try again.

awesome job on the sprints, in the rain, no less.

Sprints on New Years? That’s hardcore. I might’ve ventured out for a run myself had I not been so hungover. My own fault, that.

Have a good one.

I have been MIA a bit… but yes, I can probably help =D

Obviously different people have different strengths… but what it generally boils down to when you are talking about push vs. pull, more specifically bench or overhead press vs. deadlift is biomechanics. I am assuming Skye has long arms (or at least long in relation to her height)… which means when pressing (OH or bench) she has a lot further to move the weight than someone with shorter arms… whereas when she deadlifts, she has a shorter distance to move them weight because she doesn’t have to bend down as far before her arms can reach the bar and her arms are closer to the ground in relation to other people’s because they are long (or long for her body…) make sense?

My coach is the opposite. They call him the Penguin b/c his arms are so short. That’s why he can bench 600-700 lbs because the bar only has to move a very short distance… but he can only deadlift around 700 b/c he has to pull the bar some far off the ground b/c his arms are very far away from the ground in relation to his height.

Make sense? =D

That’s why my DL is in the mid 300’s but my bench is closer to 160-ish… =(

haha I heard that.

Deja - you are right my dear! Which I am afraid I may have done one time my senior year in high school… OOPS! Classy huh? =D
