Skye Log

Yeah I lucked out with the calf genetics - my mum got them from her dad and I got them from her. I’ve never had to do anything for them and they’re around 15 inches now. Unfortunately I also got her hips.

I have monster calves…ok maybe not as monster as the pic above, but nevertheless… and I never train them with any kind of isolation movements so they just look kinda, well, blah.

Here the thing…I can’t wear boots. EVER. I have tried on dozens of pairs of boots and they never zip up…they stop at my calves and mock me because they look so good and I can’t squeeze into them.

I will never be able to be a girly girl even if I wanted to. Clothes, shoes, whatever, they just don’t fit my body the way I want them to. So I admire cute girls from afar and leave the accessorizing to them while I wear sweats on my way to the gym.

Skye, those boots are hot. Pics wanted when wearing nothing but.

Boo.

But at least I don’t look like the guys who have big upper bodies and spend hours doing bi curls while they have chicken stilts for legs. Ha.

Case and point.

Edit note - on a whim Aaron measured these bad boys…16.2 (you guys get to see Calf (not Carl) Jr.) and 16.7…can we say ASYMMETRY!!! And trust me, this picture is not to show size, it is to point out the tears I cry when I CAN’T, not that I don’t want to because I do, but can’t wear cute shit. It sucks.

Damn all you cute boot wearin girls

My legs used to look in proportion until I started squatting…Now, I realize I have to bring my calves into proportion with my thighs. So, I’m doing calves 3x a week to make 'em grow.

Well, if you like riding bicycles I can say from long experience that bicycling grows ENORMOUS calves. So much so that for years I couldn’t find tall boots to fit around mine. Thankfully, after leaning out due to lifting, my big fat calves shrunk down to normal size.

Kimba, I wish I had big calves. But isn’t it genetics? I’ve read several articles on here that confirm that. My dad had chicken legs,(thanks, Dad). I gotta work with what I have… [/quote]

Um, whose body do these beasts belong to?

Nice work.

fuck skye!!! those are ur calves??? holy shit those are diesel. and lean. wow.

Oh PuH-LeeeZ, Shaunar.
Your calves look normal to me…FWIW, I’m not girly either but I like wearing boots. Every once in a while, I’ll tolerate a heel.

Today, I earned my butch card…I bought a pair of motorcycle boots I’ve been dying for.

The girly girls will not approve :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I wish…!!! I would not say a word if those were mine.

I just happen to like pictures.

hot boots.

what does fwiw mean?

god damn this internet lingo. no hablo people.

I got chicken leg calves and chunky thighs but I quite like my big thighs …At least when I slap them they jiggle but dont hit me back in the face

For the big calf ladies, a lady at the shoe store told me a secret and she has mega big calves from playing hockey. She puts a shoe lace through the zip and pulls up and that does the trick. And then the boots assuming they are leather, stretch and you wont need the shoe lace trick anymore.

Skye - I like the boots very much

Ah ha!!! For What It’s Worth! I Googled it.

Well, FWIW, on a whim Aaron measured these bad boys…16.2 (you guys get to see Calf (not Carl) Jr.) and 16.7…can we say ASYMMETRY!!! And trust me, this picture is not to show size, it is to point out the tears I cry when I CAN’T, not that I don’t want to because I do, but can’t wear cute shit. It sucks. And I can’t ever really find jeans because my thighs, waist, and height are not proportional that they don’t make them to fit me.
Evidently, when thighs are big like mine, designers think I should have a huge stomach and be like 6 feet tall. And there is no way in hell I have enough money to get alterations done, so again, sweats it is.

:frowning:

But whatever, muscles are the new black.

LOL…Sorry, your post made me smile. So which one’s bigger…left or right? Are you left or right-handed?

For shits n giggles, I’m going to measure my puny calves.
I give you fair warning, they may be in the single digits.

Ok, measured.

13.75" left, 13.4 right. I’m left-handed.
My goal is 15, at least.

Shaunar, you carry your weight well. You don’t have to apologize for being genetically-gifted in the muscle department. Have you tried getting jeans/ clothes tailored? Sometimes, you just gotta make those SOBs(sons-of-bitches) work!

Left ones bigger. And I am right handed. We measured my biceps too (14.1 and 14.2). I have actually never measured myself so this was all very informative/discouraging.

I guess grass is always greener…smaller ladies want to be bigger and I want to be smaller…I would trade in a second

I seriously thought that calf picture you posted was of you…I was STUNNED. And reading you blog and you saying you have a leaner frame, I was led to assume you had some CRAZY disproportions going on!

nooo…unlike Claire who has the patience to type an 800-word narrative, I find pictures an easy shortcut.

I swear to God, I train. I just got caught up in calves.

Todays’ training

warm up, activation

Deads(cycle 5 wk 2)

175 x 3
200 x 3
225 x 9

Good mornings
5 x 10(95)

Decline sit ups
5 x 15

Calf raises on leg press
3 x 15(115)

C, I love my moos, too…their just a pain to dress. From your pics, your calves seem to be in proportion to the rest of you. Would you be so kind as to measure your bubbles?

Kimba, you’re so right. There’s always something. Thank goodness for compound movements to keep everything else in check otherwise, I’d be nit-picking like noone’s business.

Cal- ain’t genetics a bitch! My goal is 15" for now so I’m vying for your spot.

Shaunar- interesting that your left calf is bigger, yet you’re right-handed. Not a big difference in your biceps. Could be something going on in your lumbars…just a thought. There’s always something, by the way.
Any old back injuries?

Belini- thanks for stopping by and thanks for the tip. Hopefully, one of these days I’ll worry about my calves being too big. Welcome to PW!

Damn, nice job on the deads, really impressive. Isn’t 5/3/1 just the shiz? I’m starting cycle 4 Monday or Tuesday with the Anaconda protocol, I’m gonna lift myself into the ground.

haaaaaaaaaa…peektures FTW.

shauna, that’s For The Win…(just learned that not too long ago myself) your calves look good, didn’t expect to read 16+…and YESSSSS…muscles are the new black…i like!

skye-i measured and i’m just a hair under 15 flexed. i do not consider mine large, and i could certainly go for bigger to make sure they don’t look bird like with my thicker hams/butt. i have definition, and a big part i think was my stair master time. i would flex my calves in different ways to work them hard when i was stepping. (not a step mill, the stair climber/master thing) i also jump roped before this awful heel spur set in.

i meant calves CAN be hard…and yes, i’ve read they respond to high volume and frequency. it’s fun to pick a body part and see what happens. and genetics are huge in regards to so many body parts. i know someone who has calves like that pic ('cept not as cut, of course. but never trained them…just born with em. like her dad. now i want to measure them out of curiousity) best to you there!

Muay Thai…you rock! shoot…looks like i was going for 800 words here…sorreh!

funny enough, I never even thought about old injuries. About 5 years ago, during my triathalon training phase, I seriously fucked up my right ankle running (hence never completing the tri), and not ever knowing how to properly rehab or listening to the physical therapist I saw a few times, it has basically stayed injured and permanently swollen. In the past year I tried sprinting on it again, popping aspirin to dull the pain (seriously, I am challenged), but now realize I can’t ever run again, at least until I give it some legitimate time to heal. Interestingly, my left ankle has also become injured over time trying to compensate for the walking imbalance created by the right ankle.

Not sure if it created the bigger or smaller calf, but thank you for pointing it out to me to take it into consideration!

talennah - picture was taken in a slanted mirror so it slimmed it down a bit…wish that mirror would follow me me around all day!

Shauna-ankle injuries abound! you, Cal, me…hmmm, thinking of others. i twisted my ankle quite badly 3 years ago. the ankle actually seemed to recover after a lonnnng time. same left foot has the heel spur i developed almost one year ago, march…doing a boot camp. i did cortisone shot and 3 x 800 ibuprofen a day for a month…harldy improvement. still jacked up and i could really almost cry that i can’t jump rope or do sprints, ultimate stuff for fat burning…i need to go back to podiatrist.

sorry, skye, for the jack…
