Haha… my thoughts exactly!
And Skye - I am with you on the bra thing! I was a 36DD FOREVER (when I was quite a bit heavier) and now I am down to a D… but it’s still impossible to find bras that are cute! I would give anything to be able to walk into a department store and crab a cute lacy bra off the rack… you know? And oh Lord… I dread pregnancy for this very reason… my Mom was a FF when she was pregnant with me! (and 25 years ago they didn’t even have the options they have now… she literally had to wrap herself in cloth and “make” her own bras! And she has huge grooves in her shoulders from badly fitting skinny straps… OUCH!)
Oh, and by the way, when CBear says “pick a fight with you” she really means “fondle your 34D’s within the first 30 seconds of meeting you”… that’s what she did to me!
P.S. Your bag work sounds AWESOME! I love that the spinning ladies came to see what you were doing! =D

If that’s the only downside, I’ll take it.

Was this early AM or mid-morning (my fave!)? What is your favorite time of day to train?

It was around 9am. I find that I lift better in the evening or around 11-ish…two meals in.

Meals are important pre-training. I tend to forget that.

Kimba, I don’t think you have any problem with that, you’ve been making PRs left, right and center ![]()
So, as I mentioned before the MMA gym I used to train at was closed down earlier this year so I’ve had to shop around for another gym. I narrowed it down to two; one of which is owned by a former insturctor of KnuckleUp, where I used to go.
Hard Knox is ok. It has an octagon which is pretty cool. I’m not so sure of Mateo’s teaching methods in MT, he was pretty hardcore being former military and all.
Tomorrow, I’m going to check out X3 and take a trial class with John, who also used to teach at my old gym but moved to Cali to turn pro but didn’t like it and ended up coming back.
I’m not sure how this is going to affect my 5/3/1 training. I’d love to do both if I can fit it in my schedule. I may have to squeeze all my lifts into 1 or 2 days.
As if my schedule isn’t crazy enough, already.

soooo…
there’s a variation of 531 to fit your schedule.
Military guys can be a bit hardcore. I went to a Muay Thai class when I was around 30 that was run by a guy called Winston, who happened to be a European champion. Now he was pretty cool, but he stopped teaching the class to go train for a title fight and left it in the hands of his trusted deputy, a Bosnian guy who had fought in the Balkans conflict. Nice guy, but fuck me, his idea of training was old-fashioned military exercises (and not as much sparring as Winston used to allow which, let’s be honest, is the part I enjoyed. I was nursing a duff rotator cuff and bum ankle (same ankle that still plagues me) and this guy had been shot several times and wasn’t going to have any sympthathy for my pathetic sports injuries. So I ended up leaving.
I did try Muay Thai again a year or two ago but it was a beginner class, mostly girls, and no sparring. I missed hitting guys in the head. Then I sprained my ankle again and stopped altogether.
Anyway, good luck, and hope you find one you can stick with.

Cal, I completely agree. I know those guys have been through alot and they have no sympathy for anyone’s whining. I don’t want to not enjoy class because it’s run like boot camp. I like being pushed but at the same time I’m acutely aware that I’m no spring chicken and I’m more prone to injury.
Some girls are no fun to spar with, they don’t hit hard enough and they can’t take a punch… ![]()
