*&^%$#@! skinnyfat pencilneck geeks!

“Do not post a reply saying that we have changed and our intelligence negates these characteristics. Before you write that, please turn on Headline news at any time, at any date, on any topic and you will see these basic biological urges being demonstrated.” What will we see that shows big guys being alpha males? Are you talking about the fighting going on? Cause that’s done with bombs and bullets. And an Alpha Male is not defined by attention. A man with purple hair tends to get attention also. Does not make him an alpha male. If it’s for the women that an Alpha male is defined, then I would hardly say “big” is what women in general would consider attractive. Sorry, but In my experience even the chicks that dig working out prefer an “athletic look” to a look you would label as a bodybuilder. I asked this question many times to women and Arnold’s physique is rarely desired more than Brad Pitt’s. There is a reason why male underwear is sold with the type of undwear models they use (athletic, not “bodybuilders”), and it’s because that is the body type that is generally considered attractive. So if physical attractiveness defines alpha male, look no further than Men’s fitness. Sorry, in our world it means nothing . If you believe your size makes you an alpha male in anybodies eyes, you probably aren’t one.

I’m glad to be of some entertainment value. Everything you said is pure speculation and the opposite has been proven time and time again. People going to the biggest person? I have never noticed that. I notice people gravitating to the most interesting and funny person. I’m not saying strength and size doesn’t help but it is not the deciding factor. I think some people watch too many movies. What would me and you going for a walk prove? How do you know who is the person bigger in stature?

To answer the question of what is an Alpha Male we should consider a few things.

Alpha Males are the “baddest of the bunch” or the “leaders of the pack” so to speak. The Alpha Males in these situations are not only the strongest, but also the smartest. Arnold plays a perfect example of an Alpha Male in the Konan movies. He strong as an ox, but also smart and cunning. More of a total package, than a big ogre.

Go to the zoo and watch the chimps or apes. You have all of these “inferior” chimps or apes running around like dumbasses, throwing their shit at each other. While the Alpha Male is sitting back on a rock just watching all the other “inferior” males of the group.

My point: The Alpha Male should be the strongest, fastest, smartest, and more able to reproduce than all other males.

In her posts, not yours. Nobody is blaming you for anyhting. You are just a victim of unhealthy obsession.

This is in regards to women prefering either large bodybuilder types or fitness model types, considering that in america one in four are obese and quite a few more are overweight, I think a women would be glad to get any type of hard body (large or small) as long as it wasn’t some jelly/lard physique as is common with most westerners these days (especially as the younger generation are getting fatter all the time).

Sorry Patricia, but Axy is right. You have to mention Ko in every fucking post! GET OVER IT!

Axy, you’re about as qualified to give relationship advice as Ray Charles is to drive me to work. I think Patricia and Ko (whoops, there’s another one!) will do just fine without your counseling. I know, I know, my advice is meaningless because my girlfriend keeps me “collared” and “under control”. Heh heh. Just keep telling yourself that.

What ever man, you couldn’t be more wrong. If she was obsessed with me then there would be some serious problems. The only poblem with our relationship, is we do not see each other enough because of my work schedule, and she does not like to fish. By the way ,she was using Peewee and Fabio as an example, two extremes to prove a point, but you didn’t get it.

I just love when people make a full 360 degree circle, draw their own conclusions (correct ones too, I must add) and spare me the nuisance. Keep up the good work.

Drax, I agree with you that those people are losers and should mind their own bussiness. You should tell them to get a life and worry about themselves. I would also like to comment on those people who sole goal is to get as big as possible. Having huge bodybuilder muscles or being as huge as possible in my opionion is not the best goal to have in mind when lfiting weights. You are much more healthy when you are leaner. Your cardovascualr system is in better shape and your body functions better. Most bodybuilders look huge outside but are dying inside. I lift weights and run because i want to look like an olympic sprinter like ben Johnsohn, or micheal johnsohn or someoen like Bruce lee or one of those UFC guys(don’t know any of their names but the guys i saw on tv were ripped.) I think the bodybuilder physique is repulsive and it is better to be muscular and have a good cardivascualr system and not bulky and slow.

Well, scatman I thought that I made it perfectly clear. Read the post over. I am in a generous mood and will restate it for you. We pay homage over and over to our basic biological urges. We have the same primordial urges as our distant ancestors. Headline News will demonstrate the wide variety of urges being played out.
In answer to your statement that I must not be large. I am 6 foot 1 inch tall and weigh 251. I think I probably qualify as large. No, I did not inflate my size. Yes, it is muscle. Yes, I work out with maximum poundages 4-5 times a week. Do not write back and say something like, “He must be lying” or “I don’t believe you.” Molsonman, be original and honestly post YOUR size. If you lie, I hope you feel bad. If you tell the truth, and you are smaller, then have the good graces to admit that I probably know what I am talking about regarding getting attention due to my size.

Right now I am 6’0, 200 pounds. You seem to be suggesting that being big and strong is the only thing that matters biologically. What about the person who is a little smaller and weaker but is a highly skilled fighter and has the superior intelligence? Being big and strong doesn’t make you a good fighter. A good fighter would dominate more than a big, strong person. A good fighter could beat the crap out of the bigger, stronger guy and take his chick.

Also how do we know that an alpha male even existed among humans. Some tribal societies that are around today frown upon aggression and competitiveness. Every person in the society has what we call feminine characteristics. There are also tribes where it is the alpha female that exists and all the males are passive. In these tribes the women are the providers and the men stay at home trying to look pretty and take care of the kids. I believe it was Margaret Mead who documented this.

What you are saying is similar to women talking how they don’t want to get big all and
that… like getting to 200, 250 or 300 lbs happens overnight and if you are not really
careful, you inevitably end up looking like Greg Kovacs. I am not exactly skinny
hardgainer, but I will have to bust my ass to get to my current goal, 220@10 % bf.
One thing about being “underwear” model is correct - it is much easier to get to
160@8 % bf than 220 or 250@10 % bf. I want to be as big as possible and have 10 % or
less bodyfat. I love to push myself to the limit and mediocre results were never a
source of satisfaction to me. To each his own, I guess. Btw. bulky and slow? I am
neither a sprinter nor martial artist; why should I be fast? Another thing, I do my
cardio 4x/week and trust me, I would outrun most pencilneck geeks that strut around
showing their chicken legs, turkey necks and jelly arms. People have different priorities.
I will never say a word against Brad Pitt wannabies, but I very often hear people
saying things against my goals. That should be none of their business. If they are
intimidated by my (I hope, once attained…) size or if they are jealous, there are
terapists that can help them deal with their personal issues.

Alpha male has to be big and strong (physically)? Maybe in the animal kingdom, and even there not always, but not among humans.Thats a load of crap. Hell you don’t even need to be intelligent look ,at look at George Bush Junior. If you were to argue that money makes someone an alpha male, then you may have a point, but ones needs to have the brains to obtain, and keep the money. I hate to break it to you but if I put one of you big strong guys in a room with Brad Pitt and a group of randomly selected women, Brad is going to get the attention. Another thing to consider is the make up of the crowd . You put Arnold in a room with Jackie Chan, and 100 teenage Chinese girls . Who is going to get more attention? Now say its a room of physicists and Stephen Hawking is there. Now who is the Alpha male? A group of CEOs and Alan Greeenspan?.As I said it depends on the crowd. Anyways this idea that “I’m Bigger so I’m tougher and more dominant than you” is crap. I am 5’10", 165 on a good day( the biggest I have been and and the same time being lean) , and there is no way I will let a larger man push me around physically or mentally. Do I want to be bigger ? Sure, but no way am I going to take any shit while I work my way up, nor do I care if I ever reach 200 lbs. If being big is your goal, great go for it, and do not let anyone stand in your way,but being small will not keep you from leading the pack. Its all about being sure of yourself and your abilities, mental, physical, and spiritual.

I have to agree with your last post. Alot of times mentally you can take some one out…or be taken out yourself. Especially in out society. Think of it in an office violence doesn’t help. A very agressive, mentally sharp and confident person is more suited than some huge mutton head. Not to mention charisma…that can get you anywhere.

I’ve been lurking over this thread for awhile now and would like to contribute my 2cents to the “alpha male” discussion. I’m not sure if I agree with the concept of using animal pack behaviour as a metaphor for human behaviour, but I guess I can play along. Being the alpha male is not, in my opinion, the desirable position to be in in the animal kingdom. The alpha male is usually the most insecure and nervous of any of the pack. He is constanly looking for the next internal and external threat. He can trust no one and at some point he is going to lose his position. In his insecurity he feels the constant need to dominate others. If you look at wolf packs, lion prides and other animals that live in packs, rarely does the alpha male keep his position for life. At some point he gets physically dominated and run off or killed by a bigger, stronger, faster male. I will agree that in the animal kingdom, bigger, stronger, faster wins every time. I agree with Ko that size alone will lose out to skill and determination most times. But there is an old dog fighting saying that sums it up simply with " a good big dog will beat a good small dog every time". If I were to choose an animal who’s behaviour I would emulate in my journey through life, it would be an animal like the grizzly bear. He tromps through the bush with no natural enemies, no fear and totally secure with his place in the world. He eats when he’s hungry, drinks when he’s dry and sleeps when he’s tired. For the most part he feels no need to dominate anybody and will not accept any attempts to dominate him. He rarely feels threatened, however when he truly is, he takes care of business. This to me seems to be essence of being a good man. Be secure and confident in yourself; be strong; protect yourself and your family when neccessary, but don’t impose your will on others. The best leaders aren’t the rich and political figures who preach to us what we need to do to be like them. Who really looks up to those people? The true leaders are those who simply and lead by example. People like Martin Luther King, JFK, Ghandi, and the emergency personell who parished on 9/11 are the type of people who exemplify leadership to me. This message also goes back to the original post about those not understanding the pursuit of muscle size and a better body. Most people are incapable of understanding why we follow this lifestyle. Nothing you can say can change there minds. Every time they look at you it’s a reminder to them of the lack of discipline and self worth in there own lives. This feeling often manifests itself in verbal attacks on those of us who care about our health and appearance. Accept that they don’t get it and live and let live. A coworker once asked me " when I was going to grow out of my obsession with getting bigger and stronger?" My answer was," I hope never, because that would be death to me."

Great post. The best one on this thread.

if you want to get huge take roids, than your an alpha male. At least you think you are. hehehe!

This is such a hoot. Thousands and thousands of posts about how to get big, how to get big quicker, how to get big and lean, etc. But as soon as someone mentions the fact that being big has some obvious advantages (chicks, beating somebody’s skull in, or whatver it is that you do with your muscles), the little guys come out of the woodwork to downplay the importance of the one thing that most of them are working so hard to get.
