Because those are the only choices in terms of physical goals. There are no other options. I think I passed up Rich Franklin’s development in the first year of serious weight training. If your goals are to be an ultimate fighter, why do you care what you look like so much to even have a goal like that?

I knew that as the resident hater you’d jump all over this. You seem to have your speedos in a bunch because some people don’t want to be over 200 lbs. Does anyone criticize you for being 270? No! But you never fail to bust the balls of anyone who doesnt share your goals.
Any sport that requires agility is better suited to a lighter, less massive build. Most of my activities would be impeded if I was anywhere near 270.

That wasn’t the point. The point was that you presented two extremes as if there is only “massively built like a professional bodybuilder” and “barely built” like the man you mentioned. You are the one that related gaining any more muscle than that to “moving like Ronnie Coleman”.
There are several impressive bodybuilders in the light heavy weight class who are under 200lbs. Most of them are less than 5’9" in height, but they only weigh more than 200lbs in the off season.
I am wondering why you presented two extremes. I am also wondering why people like you equate weighing 200lbs or more with “impeding your activities”.

Because in the UFC and PRIDE, no fighter weighs more than 200 lbs.
Any fighter over 200 lbs. lacks mobility. Thus, Royce Gracie (WTF does he know, anyway?) is a total moron for training, 6’2", 290 Brock Lesnar.

No need for extremes.
I would take either of these guys builds if I had to trade with them. Both look better than those other 2 extremes that were mentioned. I’ll put a good pick of Arnold up in the next post.

The point is, the bigger guys (250+ pounders) consider guys like Rich Franklin ‘skinny bastards’. That was the point of this thread, to put down guys that are sub 200. All I’m saying, I chose the otehr ‘extreme’ as you call it.
Being heavy does imped certain activities. Have you ever tried doing a 20 foot drop at your weight?

1)When did this thread morph into “the goals of people who want to be UFC fighters”?
2)Is this the newest fad to take the place of all of the guys who wanted to be pro wrestlers 5-10 years ago?
3)Is this the newest fad to replace all of the guys who wanted to be like The Karate Kid 10 years before that?
4)Is this the newest fad to replace all of the guys who wanted to be like Bruce Lee 10 years before that?
Oh, wait, that last one came back.
I think having goals, period, is great. What I don’t get is why so many people who seem to not care about physique development have shown up on this board lately. I further don’t get why they jump into threads aimed at people who lift weights for muscular development to tell everyone about their UFC goals.

Dweebs like Z-Man rationalize their lack of success in the weight room as such: “I’m MMA. If I get big, I won’t be mobile.” This is a tired excuse.
Most of the top UFC fighters carry as much muscle as remaining in their weight class will allow. I haven’t heard a top UFC guy say he’s afraid of getting stronger because it will hurt him in the octagon. Rather, they can’t bulk up too much or else they’ll leave their weight class. Franklin is great at his current class, but if he gained muscle, could he dominate a higher weight class?
So it’s lame to think UFC guys are “barely built” because they’re AFRAID of muscle. Fighters find a weight they can dominate at, and they don’t want to leave that weight class.
Of course, the idea that one can’t be mobile and big is so silly it need not be addressed. Z-Man, how was last night’s Flat Earth Society meeting?

So now it’s down to name calling and insults?
Different people, different goals. I hit almost 200, didn’t like it, couldn’t snowboard worth shit. I’m happy at 185. I can still do 30’ drops, and 360’s without cracking my board in half.
If calling me a dweeb makes the pathetic insecure angry little man inside your 250lb frame feel better, then I’m happy for you. You guys want to put people down for being sub 200, go for it. All the power to ya. I’m happy for you guys, being so big and powerful.
In addition to a bodybuilding forum, this is also a strength forum, as difficult as that is for some of you guys to understand.

Yes, there is no end to little guys telling us that this is ALSO a strength forum. Thanks for pointing that out again. How strong are you?[/quote]
This forum has helped me get stronger, helped me hit personal bests, and corrected many mistakes I was making in the past, but I’m not getting into a penis size competition with you over the Internet.
I’m so glad you are so big and strong, I’m happy for you. I really am. You are stronger than me, I’m not denying that. Good for you!
Most of your posts insult other people and put them down. Someone asks advice, you are usually one of the first to pipe in and be a total ass to them. You may be 270lbs, but you’re not a nice person. You have 13000 posts on this forum, most of them negative towards others, that says alot about you.
Bulking and then cutting using Bodybuilding techniques is the fast lane to an impressive physique of any size that is bigger than your current size.
Of course you can train like a high level athlete or try to maintain low bf while trying to reach your size goals but for 99% of us on this site thats bad advice.
I can’t understand why there is so much argument about such sound advice. Have whatever size goal you want for whatever reason you like but that has nothing to do with the GREAT ADVICE that a dedicated bulking, size, strength period is still the fastest and easiest way to increase size and strength for whatever reason.
Wasn’t this thread about giving advice to skinny bastards that didn’t want to stay skinny?
Why the hell jump in and start defending skinny?
This isn’t a thread to bash skinny people that want to stay skinny… but those folks probably don’t need to jump in to whine about the fact they get scoffed at around here at times.

That’s a bunch of horseshit. I’ve read many of his posts. He has put more useful posts and helpful posts up than almost all the rest of us combined. Sometimes people may not like what they’re gonna hear. But they need to hear it. I just gave an example in another thread how people insulting me when I was younger about my skinny arms had helped me build big arms. Honesty is always the best policy. I’ve had a ton of posts where I have had to be harsh and or completly go against the grain of the popular idea.
People that make statements then stand by them should be rewarded. I don’t agree with everyting any one particular person in here says and I wouldn’t expect anybody to agree with everything I say. but, believe me sometimes the supposed “bad guys” are actually the ones helping more people out than you could possibly imagine. I know I’m not here to blow smoke up anybodys skirt. I’ll tell you the truth and how I feel about things whether you like or not, and I could care less if the entire forum disagreed with me.
If I believe it to be true and I have a crowd that disagrees with me, then I still will not suck up and I will take the flames that come my way. There are alot of whimps in here. Prof X isn’t one of them. He is intelligent enough to defend himself. But, let me just say… he’s done a hell of alot of good for these little tykes that don’t have a clue in the world of what they’re doing. Most of you newbs will be glad you got flamed or insulted when your results are now a result of following the “not a nice guys” advice.
I’m 100 times more of a son of a bitch than him. He’s actually a pretty nice guy. But, I will for damn sure help you and give you some advice and some tips that are worth their weight in gold. I wish I would have known some of the shit that I know now… now I dispense some sound info for free. Prof X has been doing it for 13,000 posts. He should have his author column.
