Regarding skinfold accuracy, I have a very hard time getting a good pinch on my quad. My fingers keep slipping and I worry that the readings I am taking aren’t right. BUT I am able to get a perfect skinfold pinch about three inches laterally of the spot I usually take the reading at (which is located according to Norcross’ article from way back when). Will this affect my readings in any way as far as accuracy goes? I’ve been scratching my head over this…
Bump for any brainiacs…
So long as you pinch the same spot everytime, that is fine for measuring relative progress. Also, beings that you are still taking an upper, mid, and lower body reading, it may actually be closer to your “real” body fat percentage. Could be slightly less, could be slightly more. Just realize that even if you pinched the 3 “right” spots, the percentage that you get is still an estimate.
Gotcha, Joel. You my na-hin-ja.
Letters for the better.
are you sitting down and pushing your hammie down on the chair? otherwise those monter hamstrings will be pulling all the skin down!
All skinfolds are taken while standing. I’m not sure what you mean, Whetu…
not that it matters, but ISAK method is done sitting with the “client” pulling the hammie up by putting hands under thigh, so you (the tester) get an easier pinch on the quad (mid point between inguinal fold and top of patella).
does this make sense? i’m guessing you aint doing ISAK method, especially as you are doing you own testing!!
Gotta agree with Joel bro. I think you’ll be fine if you hit the same spot each time. Also, sometimes you’ve just gotta pinch and grab very hard to the point of it being uncomfortable to get a good thigh skinfold.
Yes! I was hoping you’d respond to this question, Crossy! Thanks and I’ll see you around P-Town in a couple o’ weeks…
