Skater Squat vs Bulgarian Split Squat?

This has a picture of the speed skater squat:

This is about the Bulgarian Split squat, with photo:

I don’t understand what the difference is?

I ask because both are mentioned in
http://www.T-Nation.com/free_online_article/most_recent/21_exercises_for_injury_free_mass

which makes it sound like they are different exercises.

thanx!

You can elevate the front foot with either one, making them a special kind of torture.

The speed skater squat is a Bulgarian split squat done as “one and a halfs”. On each rep you descend, come part way up, descend, come all the way up.

On page 2 in that article, Ben even describes “1.5 Reps” by saying, “I picked this one up from Joe Defranco.”

thank you!

I was just reading this thread:

and someone mentioned that the angle of the lower back is different on skater squats.

Is the back leaning more forward on skater squats? That’s how speed skaters skate, right?

Whereas Bulgarian Splits squats- should they ideally have the torso perfectly upright?
